Abstract

Physics learning in schools can foster essential skills for the current era, one of which is scientific literacy. Scientific literacy involves examining phenomena in students’ everyday lives, which can be explored through local wisdom. However, there are still limited studies that integrate local wisdom into physics learning to develop students’ scientific literacy. Addressing this gap, the present study aims to develop a student worksheet (LKS) integrated with the local wisdom of the Boranan Lamongan dance to enhance students’ scientific literacy. This research describes the feasibility of the developed worksheet in terms of its validity and practicality. The study employed the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The worksheet was tested on a limited scale in class XI science students at an Islamic Senior High School in East Java. The results show that the integration of local wisdom is feasible for use in physics learning to promote scientific literacy. The validity aspect achieved a PoA score of 84.13% (very valid), while the practicality aspect, assessed through learning implementation, obtained an average score of 96.04% (very practical). Overall, the findings indicate that the student worksheet integrating the Boranan Lamongan dance is feasible as a learning medium to foster students’ scientific literacy. Furthermore, this research contributes to the preservation of local culture by incorporating the Boranan dance into physics education.

Abstract

Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Brunei Darussalam face limited access to continuing education, lack of entrepreneurial skills, and insufficient understanding of the integration between education, ecology, and business. To address this gap, the FMIPA team from Universitas Negeri Surabaya conducted an online EduEcopreneurship training in November 2025. The activity employed a participatory workshop approach and a pretest-posttest evaluation design. Results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ conceptual understanding, with average scores rising from 52.4 to 84.2 (a 31.8-point increase, or 60.7%). Moreover, 93.3% of participants successfully designed business ideas that integrated the three core pillars of EduEcopreneurship: Eco-Innovation, Eco-Opportunities, and Eco-Commitment. Participant feedback was rated “Good” (average 4.08 on a 5-point scale). These findings confirm that EduEcopreneurship serves as an effective dual empowerment model, combining non-formal education and sustainable economic development, for migrant workers.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the validity and reliability of an instrument developed to measure students’ perceptions of PhET simulation–based innovations in learning rigid body equilibrium. The research sought to determine whether the instrument accurately captured students’ conceptual understanding, engagement, and satisfaction while also identifying latent factors underlying their responses through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Method: The study employed a quantitative survey approach with 25 Likert-scale items distributed to students in one secondary school. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO), and Bartlett's test for sampling adequacy, followed by EFA with Varimax rotation. Reliability testing was conducted through Cronbach's Alpha to evaluate the internal consistency of extracted factors. Results:  The findings revealed that the instrument achieved strong overall reliability (Cronbach’s α = .909). EFA identified nine distinct factors, extending beyond the original five theoretical dimensions of ease of use, engagement, conceptual clarity, collaboration, and satisfaction. While the first five factors demonstrated high reliability (α > .75), Factors 6–9 exhibited weaker reliability, indicating the need for refinement. These results confirm that PhET simulations effectively enhance conceptual understanding and engagement, but also reveal additional dimensions of students’ learning experiences. Novelty: This study contributes to physics education research by providing a validated multidimensional instrument for evaluating PhET-based learning in rigid body equilibrium. The emergence of nine empirical factors highlights the complex nature of students’ perceptions and underscores the need for more nuanced measurement tools. Unlike prior research focusing solely on conceptual gains, this study emphasizes the psychometric validation of students’ experiences, offering a novel framework for assessing technology integration in physics education.

Abstract

This bibliometric study maps and evaluates the publication landscape on inquiry-based physics learning that intersects with mobile applications, multiple intelligences (MI), and local wisdom, with attention to implications for scientific literacy. Scopus records were retrieved using a TITLE-ABS-KEY search and processed following PRISMA 2020 and PRISMA-S. The screening window was restricted to 2020–2025, English-language, final-status documents, and journal articles or conference papers/proceedings. From 138,162 initially identified records, 362 remained after year and subject filtering; 305 met eligibility criteria, and 99 unique documents were included after DOI/title deduplication (full flow and exclusion reasons are reported in the PRISMA diagram and accompanying table). Performance analysis (annual output, sources, authors, countries, and subject areas) and science mapping (co-authorship, keyword co-occurrence, co-citation, and bibliographic coupling) were conducted using Bibliometrix/Biblioshiny and visualized in VOSviewer with association-strength normalization and full versus fractional counting sensitivity checks. Results show a publication peak in 2020, a decline across 2021–2023, and a rebound in 2024. Conference proceedings dominate the corpus (≈91%), with Journal of Physics: Conference Series contributing nearly two-thirds of documents. Indonesia is the leading contributor by affiliation and country; Physics and Astronomy accounts for ≈48–49% of subject assignments, followed by Engineering (≈14%) and Computer Science (≈12%). Keyword networks center on “students” and “education computing,” while MI and scientific literacy occur infrequently and local wisdom appears peripheral, indicating an early-stage, technology-driven field. Limitation: the Physics subject-area filter likely underrepresents education-journal studies where MI and literacy are more explicitly operationalized. Future work should prioritize journal-level designs, validated scientific-literacy measures, and transparent term normalization and counting schemes.

Abstract

The low level of students' critical thinking and argumentation skills has attracted attention. This study aims to analyze the improvement of students' critical thinking skills by implementing argumentation-based assessment as an innovative learning strategy. The method used is a quantitative descriptive study involving 28 grade XI MIPA students, using essay tests and questionnaires as data collection instruments. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially through N-gain calculations and paired t-tests to measure the improvement of critical thinking skills. The results showed an increase in critical thinking skills from the poor and sufficient categories in the pre-test stage to good and very good categories in the post-test stage, with an average N-gain of 55% which is included in the moderate category and a paired t-test significance value <0.05 which indicates a significant difference. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of argumentation-based assessment in developing critical thinking skills while contributing to the development of relevant contextual learning strategies to improve scientific literacy and meet the demands of 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

Science process skills (SPS) are competencies in physics education that enable students to engage in scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving. In the context of 21st-century education, strengthening SPS has become important for supporting quality and sustainable science education. This study aims to identify patterns, issues, and research directions related to science process skills (SPS) in physics education from 2000 to 2025. This research focuses on the significance of SPS as a competency for the 21st century, particularly in enhancing the quality of science education in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Quality Education. Furthermore, the study emphasizes how international collaboration in SPS research plays a role in achieving SDG 17 by fostering partnerships in publications and research networks. The study uses bibliometric analysis, with data sourced from Scopus totaling 377 documents and processed using RStudio software. The analysis covers annual publication trends, keyword networks, collaborations between authors and countries, topic development, and publication sources. The results show a significant rise in publications since 2010, peaking in 2019, along with a shift in research focus from curriculum issues to digital technology integration, STEM/STEAM approaches, and virtual laboratories. International collaborative networks have expanded over time but remain regionally concentrated, particularly in North America and Southeast Asia, while collaborations involving Africa and parts of the Middle East remain limited. These findings demonstrate global growth and structural gaps in the development of SPS research. This study concludes that the development of SPS research is increasingly moving towards innovation in physics education and 21st-century competencies relevant to the SDG 4 agenda, as well as mapping the role of global research collaboration in line with SDG 17. Limitations include reliance on a single data source and metadata quality. Future research should expand data sources and employ comprehensive bibliometric methods.
