Abstract

The background of this study is the low problem-solving ability of students due to the use of ineffective learning models and the minimal use of learning media. This study aims to determine the effect of the E-LKPD Interactive-assisted Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the mathematical problem-solving ability of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 11 Mataram in the 2025/2026 academic year. The type of research used is a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach. The population in this study consisted of 96 eighth-grade students with a sample of 48 students selected using cluster random sampling. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation and tests. Data were obtained through posttests and analyzed using the t-test. The results of the analysis showed that the t-count = 2.806 was greater than the t-table = 2.013, so was accepted and was rejected. Thus, there was a significant difference in mathematical problem-solving skill between the experimental class and the control class. The effect size value of indicates that the effect is in the strong category.

Abstract

Advanced Calculus is a core course in the Mathematics Education Study Program that requires students to demonstrate strong problem solving abilities. Nevertheless, these competencies have not been optimally developed because learning activities are still largely dominated by conventional instructional approaches, with textbooks serving as the primary learning resource. This study aimed to develop and validate problem-solving-based teaching materials for the Advanced Calculus course. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model, which consists of four stages: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The participants were students enrolled in the Mathematics Education Study Program. The participants were students enrolled in the Mathematics Education Study Program at Mataram University. Data were collected using validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and a problem solving skills test. The results indicated that the developed teaching material met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. These results indicate that the problem-solving-based Advanced Calculus teaching material is appropriate for use as one of the learning resources in Advanced Calculus courses and has the potential to enhance students' problem solving skills.

Abstract

Studies in mathematics education have increasingly explored the integration of digital technology and ethnomathematics in learning activities. Various digital platforms have been used to create more interactive and contextual mathematics learning experiences connected to students’ cultural backgrounds and everyday life. Previous studies also suggested that culturally connected digital learning may support students’ engagement, reasoning, conceptual understanding, and higher-order thinking skills. However, earlier research mainly focused on mobile learning, digital games, augmented reality, and blended learning, while website-based ethnomathematics learning, particularly in higher education contexts, has received less attention. This study reviewed previous research related to website-based ethnomathematics learning and mathematical problem-solving skills using the PRISMA 2020 framework. Literature searches were conducted mainly through ProQuest and supported by Google Scholar verification and manual searches through ScienceDirect. From 142 initially identified articles published within the last ten years, 17 studies met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed descriptively and thematically. The reviewed studies discussed digital games, augmented reality, multimodal learning, AI-assisted learning, virtual learning environments, and web-based platforms in mathematics education. Problem-solving, reasoning, visualization, creative thinking, and conceptual understanding were among the mathematical abilities most frequently discussed, while geometry topics appeared more dominant than other mathematical areas. The findings indicate that ethnomathematics-based digital learning has strong potential to support more meaningful and culturally responsive mathematics learning. Nevertheless, studies specifically focusing on website-based ethnomathematics learning for improving mathematical problem-solving skills in higher education settings remain limited.

Abstract

Problem-solving skills have become a key focus in mathematics education today. In mathematics class, students often face difficulties in solving non-routine problems or complex questions. This study aims to describe students’ difficulties in solving math problems involving fractions. This study employs a qualitative, descriptive research approach. The subjects of this study were 25 fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Paokmotong. The subjects were selected through purposive sampling, with three subjects chosen based on high, moderate, and low problem-solving ability categories. The data collection techniques used were a mathematics problem-solving test, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques in this study included data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Meanwhile, the validity of the research data was tested using triangulation. The results of the study show that: 1) subjects in the high category experienced difficulties at the stage of implementing their problem-solving plans; 2) subjects in the moderate category experienced difficulties at the stages of planning the solution, implementing the solution plan, and checking their work; and 3) subjects in the low category experienced the most difficulties, namely difficulties in understanding the problem because they were unable to identify the given information in the problem. Difficulties in the planning stage for problems 1 and 4 stemmed from an inability to create an accurate mathematical model. Difficulties in the execution stage resulted from not knowing how to apply formulas or not having memorized them. Difficulties in the review stage arose from an inability to solve the problems correctly.
