The development model used is the 4-D model. The module developed was validated by two lecturers and three chemistry teachers. The practicality testing of the module was carried out by three chemistry teachers and 32 SMA students. Testing the effectiveness of the module was carried out using a pre-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The validity test was analyzed using the Aiken's V formula where content and construct validity were obtained respectively 0.91 and 0.92 with the valid category. The practicality test was analyzed using the Aiken's V formula where the practicality scores for teachers and students were obtained respectively 0.94 and 0.86 in the practical category. The module effectiveness test was analyzed using N-Gain where an N-Gain value of 0.76 was obtained in the high category. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the salt hydrolysis module based on problem based learning integrated with TPACK developed is valid, practical and effective to improve the numeracy literacy skills of Phase F SMA students.

Abstract

This research aimed to enhance students’ communication skills in chemistry through the application of Project Based Learning (PjBL) at MAN 2 Bengkalis. The study utilized a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design following the Kemmis and McTaggart framework, which includes the stages of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting across three cycles. The participants were 24 eleventh-grade students in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were gathered using observation sheets to evaluate communication abilities and post-tests to measure learning achievement. The findings demonstrated a steady increase in students’ communication performance, improving from 73% in Cycle I to 81% in Cycle II and reaching 86% in Cycle III. Progress was evident in four key areas: accuracy of responses, participation in group discussions, presentation quality, and teamwork. Additionally, students’ learning outcomes showed notable gains, with mastery levels increasing from 54% in the first cycle to 88% in the final cycle. These results suggest that implementing PjBL effectively fosters active engagement, improves collaboration, and strengthens students’ conceptual understanding of chemistry concepts. In general, the use of this model contributes to a more dynamic and meaningful classroom experience, supporting the cultivation of essential 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of tea leaf extract as a corrosion inhibitor for steel under real coastal atmospheric exposure. The novelty of this work lies in its direct assessment of a plant-derived inhibitor in an open-air marine environment, a setting that has not been adequately addressed in previous studies, which have largely focused on controlled aqueous systems. In addition, this study employs mature tea leaves, an abundant agricultural byproduct with naturally high tannin content, processed through a simple, solvent-free extraction method, thereby offering a sustainable route for green inhibitor development. The extract was obtained from mature tea leaves through aqueous boiling, and its tannin content was quantified using UV–Vis spectrophotometry. ASSAB 760 steel specimens were coated by immersion in tea extract at varying concentrations and soaking durations, followed by natural exposure in a coastal environment for 1 to 30 days. Corrosion behavior was evaluated using the weight loss method. The results showed that mature tea leaves contained the highest tannin concentration (29530.95 ppm), supporting their selection for inhibitor application. The optimum extract concentration was identified as 11000 ppm with a 5-hour immersion time. Under these conditions, treated steel exhibited a substantially lower corrosion rate (7.78 × 10⁻⁵ g/cm²/day) compared to untreated steel (1.66 × 10⁻⁴ g/cm²/day), corresponding to a maximum inhibition efficiency of 84.71%. The inhibition mechanism is attributed to the formation of a stable Fe³⁺–tannin chelate complex that adsorbs onto the steel surface, forming a protective film that restricts the ingress of aggressive chloride-rich moisture in the coastal atmosphere. Overall, the findings demonstrate the practical viability of mature tea leaf extract as an effective and environmentally benign atmospheric corrosion inhibitor, providing field-relevant insight into sustainable protection strategies for marine-exposed steel infrastructure.

Abstract

The study aims to develop an acid-base e-module based on guided discovery learning using React Native to improve the problem-solving skills of senior high school students. The research method is Educational Design Research (EDR) using the Plomp model. The e-module using React Native is presented in the form of a mobile application that can be accessed on smartphones. The presentation of acid-base material in the e-module is adapted to the syntax of Guided Discovery Learning. The e-module was validated by 5 validators, including 3 subject matter experts and 2 media experts, using a questionnaire analysed with Aiken's V. Practicality was assessed by 9 students representing low, medium, and high ability categories using a questionnaire in the small group stage, analysed using achievement percentages. Effectiveness was determined by comparing pre-test and post-test scores of students using the N-gain formula. The validation results of the acid-base e-module using React Native were 0.90, categorized as valid, and the practicality of the e-module was 92%, categorized as highly practical. Effectiveness was obtained from N-gain data of 0.71, categorised as high (sufficiently effective). Hypothesis testing was conducted using the Wilcoxon test because the data was not normally distributed, with a sign of < 0.001, indicating that the acid-base e-module based on guided discovery learning using React Native can improve the problem-solving skills of senior high school students in phase F.

Abstract

The low level of chemical literacy in Indonesia, reflected in PISA 2022 scores below the average, is driven by the limited use of literacy-based assessments and restricted access to proper evaluation instruments. This study aims to develop and validate a chemical literacy test instrument specifically designed for atomic structure material for Senior high School students, utilizing the Rasch model for rigorous psychometric analysis. Unlike previous studies that often integrate multiple chemistry topics, this research provides a specialized focus exclusively on atomic structure, featuring five contextual narratives and one infographic across seven essay items to capture deep conceptual understanding. This Research and Development (R&D) employed purposive sampling of students at SMA N 7 Padang. Data were analyzed using Content Validity Ratio (CVR) for logical validity and Rasch modelling via Ministep software for empirical validation. The Rasch model was selected over classical test theory to ensure linear measurement of both item difficulty and student ability. SME evaluations confirmed the logical validity of all items. Empirical analysis showed that although some items exhibited higher outfit values, they were retained because of strong point-measure correlations with the measured construct. Item reliability was categorized as good, person reliability as fair, and Cronbach’s alpha was categorized as good. The instrument effectively categorized item difficulty and student discrimination power into three ability levels (high, medium, and low). The resulting seven-item instrument is valid, reliable, and practically feasible for educators to integrate into formative assessments to measure students' chemical literacy in atomic structure.
