Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) possess strategic potential for advancing the creative economy grounded in cultural and community-based resources, particularly through the batik industry. Pondok Pesantren Al-Mawaddah in Kudus Regency has established a batik business unit since 2018 as part of its pesantren entrepreneur program; however, it has not yet demonstrated optimal competitiveness. This study aims to develop a model for strengthening the pesantren-based creative economy through entrepreneurship training, eco-religious–based santri batik product innovation, and digital branding strategies. This study employs an action research approach encompassing the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through participatory observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. The findings indicate that (1) pesantren possess strong human resource potential for batik industry development, (2) entrepreneurship training and education enhance the technical and managerial competencies of santri, (3) eco-ethnic and eco-religious–based santri batik product innovation generates a distinctive product identity, (4) santri-preneur competencies improve in the domains of production, entrepreneurship, and digital marketing, and (5) digital branding strategies expand market reach and strengthen the position of santri batik within the creative economy ecosystem. This study affirms the strategic role of pesantren as centers for culturally grounded creative economy development and proposes an integrative model for strengthening santri entrepreneurship through education, training, product innovation, and digital branding.

Abstract

The research methodology uses a descriptive qualitative approach through regulatory analysis, inventory of existing conditions, and conformity assessment with the Semarang City Regional Spatial Plan. The results of the study show that the existing parking conditions in the cemetery area are not able to accommodate the increasing number of vehicles. The required land area is around 1,139 m² with the status of land owned by residents, so a fair land procurement mechanism is needed and in accordance with the rules. This study recommends the preparation of a Feasibility Study, Detailed Engineering Design, and environmental analysis as the basis for development implementation. Thus, the preparation of the DPPT is expected to provide legal certainty, protection for affected communities, and support the sustainable development of religious tourism destinations.

Abstract

This study investigated the ideological dimensions of dance pedagogy within the context of performance-based competency examinations at Dinda Bestari Studio. Adopting a qualitative case study methodology, the research explored how cultural, social, and educational values were transmitted through traditional dance instruction in a non-formal educational setting. Data were gathered through participant observation, in-depth interviews with instructors and students, and the analysis of documented learning activities. The findings indicate that the project-based evaluation functioned as an assessment of skill proficiency that holistically considered students’ mastery of basic movements, artistic expression, presentation techniques, and cultural knowledge as interconnected dimensions of dance competence. This evaluation framework demonstrates that dance education within the studio functions as a strategic locus for character building and cultural awareness, thereby challenging the hegemony of formal curricula that frequently marginalise local values. The originality of this study lies in its integration of culturally grounded non-formal educational evaluation with a thematic analysis of ideology and character formation.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the symbolic meaning of Kawali, a traditional Bugis weapon, as a social mechanism and instrument for character formation in the South Sulawesi cultural system. Using a qualitative-ethnographic approach, this study was conducted over 9 months in the Bone and Luwu Regencies, involving 15 informants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation studies of lontara manuscripts and ritual practices. Then, they were analyzed thematically using Antonio Gramsci's cultural hegemony theory framework and Clifford Geertz's symbolic anthropology. The results show that Kawali is not merely a physical artefact but also a social symbol rich in traditional values, norms, and the Bugis' philosophy of life. Through pamor motifs, colors, and inheritance rituals, Kawali functions as a medium for communicating the values of siri’ (honor), pangaderreng (customary ethics), social responsibility, and loyalty to tradition. The symbolism of Kawali shows how Bugis cultural hegemony is exercised through moral consensus and aesthetic practices, rather than through coercion. In a modern context, Kawali is also reinterpreted as a symbol of identity and resistance to cultural homogenization. These findings confirm that traditional Kawali artifacts have contemporary relevance in character education, cultural preservation, and the formation of national identity. As living symbols, Kawali unites art, faith, and ethics in a single, evolving system of meaning.
