Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Malnutrition, especially child stunting in Indonesia, including Kupang Regency, NTT Province, is a serious problem. Stunting affects 149.2 million children under 5 years old worldwide. In Kupang District in 2023, the prevalence of stunting is 13.0%. Factors such as climatic conditions, food insufficiency, and culture contribute to this problem. As a culturally embedded society, cultural communication is the most frequently used language and communication that is most easily absorbed as a source of community information. Methods: The type of research used is Sequential Exploratory Mixed Methods. A combination research method where two phases of research, namely the first phase using qualitative methods and the next phase using quantitative methods, are based on the results of phase one. The combination of data from both methods is connecting the results of the first phase of research (qualitative research results) and the next phase (quantitative research results). The study was conducted in Semau sub-district for six months involving 30 mothers in the intervention group and 30 mothers in the control group. intervention group and 30 mothers in the control group. The East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government and the Kupang Regency Government have granted permission and recommendations for this study, which also proposes ethical considerations from the Research Ethics Commission of the Faculty of Public Health, Nusa Cendana University, with ethical approval recommendation letter number No. 2024143 – KEPK. Results: The results showed a difference in the pre-test and post-test results in the intervention group and control group. The intervention group with a cultural communication approach showed a greater change than the control group. The post test results showed that knowledge in the intervention group increased dramatically to (63.6%) while the control group also experienced changes in knowledge (21.2%). Changes in perception in the intervention group also increased (72.7%) while perception in the control group (75.8%). Attitude changes in the intervention group (81.8%) and attitude changes in the control group (78.8%). As well as changes in the practice of the intervention group (90.9%) and in the control group (57.6%). Conclusion: Health promotion with a cultural communication strategy in Semau Sub-district shows maximum changes in knowledge, perceptions, attitudes and practices because people are more accustomed to local communication styles so that they are easier to understand, trust and apply. Based on these results, future researchers can examine other variables such as the effect of family support with cultural communication on accelerating stunting reduction in dryland areas.

Search Strategy was used PubMed, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and Web of Science data base. Inclusion Criteria: Studies focusing on community-based interventions. Data were extracted from the selected studies using a standardized form are: Author(s), year of publication, Study design, quality Assessment tools. For randomized controlled trials, the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool was utilized, while observational studies were evaluated using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. A narrative synthesis was employed to summarize the findings. Key themes regarding community empowerment strategies: Educational campaigns, workshops, Peer support, Integration with local healthcare systems, Lifestyle modification. Result : The findings revealed a significant increase in public knowledge regarding hypertension prevention after the interventions were implemented (p = 0.03). Abstract

Stunting, a condition of chronic malnutrition, impairs the physical and cognitive development of toddlers. This condition is often influenced by maternal health during pregnancy, inadequate nutrition, and recurrent illnesses in children. Despite improvements, Karanganyar Regency remains one of the regions in Central Java with high stunting prevalence, necessitating effective prevention strategies. Objective: This study aims to explore family roles and parenting practices in addressing stunting in toddlers in Gebyog Village, Mojogedang District. Methods: A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed using purposive sampling of 10 households with stunted children in Gebyog Village. Data collection involved in-depth interviews and field notes conducted in October-November 2024. Analysis followed the Colaizzi method to explore parental experiences, perspectives, and practices related to stunting prevention. Results: Most parents (70%) practice appropriate parenting aligned with health standards, such as providing exclusive breastfeeding, balanced complementary feeding, maintaining a clean environment, ensuring proper sanitation, participating in health education, and engaging in integrated health service posts. However, 30% of parents demonstrated inadequate care practices due to limited knowledge and resources. Conclusion: Strengthening parental education and support systems is crucial for improving parenting practices and reducing stunting prevalence. Integrated efforts involving health professionals and community initiatives are essential to ensure sustainable impact.

Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the immune system, resulting in a decrease in the body's ability to fight infection and potentially causing AIDS. This study aims to analyze the determinants that influence knowledge about HIV/AIDS among students of SMA Negeri 1 Kambera, East Sumba Regency, in 2024. Given the increasing cases of HIV/AIDS in Indonesia, a good understanding among adolescents is essential for the prevention of this disease. This method uses quantitative research with a cross sectional approach. The sample consisted of 75 students with the sampling technique using stratified random sampling. The analysis in this study used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis by testing the chi square relationship. The questionnaires distributed included aspects of knowledge, information sources, social, and peer influence related to HIV/AIDS. The results showed a significant relationship between knowledge and information sources (p=0.000), social life (p=0.045), and peer support (p=0.0147). It can be concluded that the factors associated with low HIV/AIDS knowledge include lack of accurate sources of information, social life with minimal open dialog about health issues, and lack of support from peers. This study suggests the need for more effective educational interventions, including counseling programs and awareness campaigns.

Abstract

Introduction to the environment and social aspects in early childhood is an essential factor in shaping children's character and social skills. The family, as the first social environment, played a primary role in teaching fundamental values such as togetherness, affection, and responsibility. This study aimed to describe the scope of introducing social sciences to early childhood. The research method used was a literature study, involving the analysis of journals and related literature. The results showed that the family served as a vital foundation in children's social development through the formation of basic values and the teaching of social roles. Children were also introduced to self-identity, emotions, and their responsibilities in daily life. Early Childhood Education (ECE) played a strategic role in integrating this understanding into educational programs, which did not solely focus on academic aspects but also emphasized character building. Through comprehensive and systematic introduction, children could grow into independent, empathetic, and responsible individuals, ready to face a harmonious social life in the future.
