The purpose of this study is to ascertain whether those two factors significantly correlate with one another. With a total of 315 students in the tenth grade at SMAN 3 Enrekang, the population of this study was composed of 32 of those students. Purposive sampling was used to choose the sample. This study uses a quantitative correlational research design. The Sirchi (2021) questionnaire was used to obtain the data on self-confidence, while the monologue exam was used to collect data on speaking skills. The SPSS 25 program was used to analyze the data for this study. The study's findings suggest that there is a strong relationship between students' self-confidence and speaking ability because the correlation analysis between the two variables indicated a significant value (0.00) and a Pearson correlation (+0.55). The conclusion of this study is that students should be encouraged to pay more attention to their self-confidence because it can impact their ability to talk.

Using two different types of instruments—a questionnaire to determine students' writing apprehension and a writing test using descriptive texts to decide students' writing skills—this study investigated the correlation between writing apprehension and students' writing skills. This study used quantitative correlational research, and the English department served as the study's target population. Additionally, the researchers employed cluster sampling and correlational design, which can choose a representative sample and represent the population. To conduct the analysis, the researchers chose one class as a sample, and thirty-five students from the third semester were chosen as the sample. According to the researchers, writing apprehension and students' writing skills were shown to be negatively correlated, who concluded that the correlation between the two was r = -0.642. The inverse correlation indicates that students did not perform as good as on writing tests the more frequently they worry about writing. Additionally, it can be inferred that there is a strong correlation between students' writing skills and their level of writing apprehension. Future researchers can focus on strategies for reducing fear of writing or what methods and teaching are proper to reduce students' high levels of fear.

The objectives of the research are to get information about the profile of the students’ English proficiency level as a graduation requirement at the English study program and non-English study programs and the factors hampering the development of the students’ English proficiency. This research employed descriptive method involving 201 fifth semester students of S1 program. The instruments used were the English proficiency test (EPT) of diagnostic TOEFL and a questionnaire for students. The research result showed that the TOEFL mean scores were still very low compared to the required scores. For the students of English study program, the mean score gained was 468 of 500 and for students of non-English study program, the mean score was 370 of 450. The other finding was about the factors hampering the development of the students’ English proficiency. The factors include the students’ insufficient effort in learning and practicing English independently, the instructional English language which was not yet optimally used by the English lecturers, the students who very rarely attended English course/training, and the rare effort to familiarize the EPT (TOEFL) to the students. These factors should be considered by the policy makers if they expect that the students have good English proficiency as well as high global competitiveness..
