Therefore, this study examines the meek approach as an alternative in character building in early childhood. The method used in this research is a literature study that involves the collection and analysis of various relevant literature sources, which include books, hadith books, journals and scientific articles that refer to the same topic. The results show that the gentle approach is very effective in shaping character in early childhood. Principles such as empathy, positive communication, tolerance, compassion and care are also contained in the character building. Through the role of parents and teachers, character in early childhood can be formed by applying a gentle approach as taught in Muslim hadith number 2935 which has a positive impact on the formation of children's character. Furthermore, this gentle approach makes children able to understand the surrounding environment and can manage themselves not to be rude, so that social relationships are created in harmony and affection.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the internalization process of the Ulul Ilmi model in moral learning as a moral aspect of Islamic teachings. The world of education is now restless in the face of increasingly severe moral degradation. The key to education's success lies in innovative educators' hands in developing appropriate learning models to achieve the expected learning goals. This research design uses an R & D (Research and development) approach. The results of this study indicate that the process of internalizing the Ulul Ilmi model, which is carried out in the moral learning process, can have an impact on changing the character of Ulul Ilmi in students. The pre-test results using the Ulul Ilmi model only obtained a 20-50% range. In contrast, the post-test results showed a presentation with a range of 50-70% of the answers to each item presented in the question instrument. That means there is a significant change that is felt by students when the lecturer applies the Ulul Ilmi model in the classroom. Likewise, with the Ulul Ilmi character in students, the results of the pre-test show a range of 20-50% only. Meanwhile, the post-test results show a percentage ranging from 30-60% of the answers to each item presented in the question instrument. That means there are quite good changes obtained from the results of the internalization process in the classroom. However, the percentage obtained does not indicate the optimal presentation because the internalization process that is carried out takes a long time and is continuous. It is better to try again to get the maximum change results in realizing the Ulul Ilmi character in UPI students.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, the widespread use of digital gadgets has significantly influenced students’ daily lives, including their learning processes. This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of gadget addiction among students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTS) and to examine its potential impact on their ability to recite the Qur’an. A quantitative approach with a correlational research design was employed to identify the association between gadget addiction and Qur’an reading proficiency. The participants consisted of 122 students selected through convenience sampling from one MTS institution in Cirebon Regency. The instrument for measuring gadget addiction contained 11 items, while the Qur’an reading ability test consisted of 12 items, with a reliability coefficient of 0.593. Data analysis included descriptive statistics to describe the distribution of scores and inferential statistics, specifically the correlation test, to determine the relationship between the two variables. The results revealed that 77% of students experienced a high level of gadget addiction, while 15% demonstrated low levels, and 8% fell into the moderate category. In terms of Qur’an recitation ability, 63% of the students were classified in the low category, 35% in the moderate category, and only 2% in the high category. The correlation analysis produced a coefficient of -0.544**, indicating a moderately strong negative relationship between gadget addiction and Qur’an reading ability (range 0.400–0.599). The two-tailed significance value (p = 0.000 < 0.05) confirmed the statistical significance of this finding. Overall, the study highlights that greater gadget addiction is associated with lower Qur’an reading proficiency, whereas lower levels of gadget use are linked to improved recitation skills. These findings suggest the urgent need for educational interventions and parental guidance to balance gadget usage and ensure the strengthening of Qur’anic literacy among students.

Abstract

This study critically examines Quraish Shihab’s thoughts on the concept of compassion in the Qur’an, focusing on the meanings of four key terms: raḥmah, raḥmān, raḥīm, and ra’ūf. It employs a qualitative approach through a literature study that explores the theme of compassion in Quraish Shihab’s interpretations and its implications for learning within Islamic education. The data in this study are categorized into two types: primary data, consisting of verses related to compassion as interpreted in Tafsir al-Mishbah, and secondary data, which include scholarly articles, academic journals, books on Islamic education, and other relevant documents that support the theoretical and conceptual analysis of this research. Data collection was conducted through documentation methods, involving gathering written materials from both primary and secondary sources. The data analysis in this research comprises three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings of this study reveal that, according to Quraish Shihab, compassion in the Qur’an is represented through four terms: raḥmah, raḥmān, raḥīm, and ra’ūf. The implications of compassion from Quraish Shihab’s perspective for learning in Islamic education encompass four aspects: (1) the formation of humane and educational communication, (2) the provision of all learners’ needs, (3) perseverance in teaching that reflects raḥmāniyyah, and (4) a firm yet non-authoritarian attitude.

Abstract

Religious prejudice among students poses a serious challenge to Islamic education in pluralistic societies. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Qur’an-based Religious Diversity (QbRD) method in reducing religious prejudice among Muslim university students. Employing a mixed-methods design, the research combined the qualitative development of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) materials with a quasi-experimental quantitative approach. The QbRD learning model was implemented in four stages: (1) student-led discussions on the concepts of faith and disbelief; (2) lecturer-led reflection on the Islamic mission of moral excellence; (3) student analysis of Qur’anic verses concerning Muslims and non-Muslims; and (4) student synthesis of theological perspectives based on the Qur’an. The study involved 12 IRE classes, with 200 students in the intervention group and 200 in the non-intervention group. Statistical analysis showed a significant improvement in the intervention group’s positive religious attitudes (t = 16.925, p < 0.01), while the control group showed minimal change. These findings indicate that QbRD fosters inclusive theological understanding and interfaith tolerance among students. The study suggests that Qur’an-based and dialogical pedagogies can play a transformative role in Islamic education, particularly in universities and pesantren, to promote peace and religious moderation.
