Abstract

SMEs are the main backbone of Indonesia's economy, but their performance is still limited by access to financing, low digital adoption, and limited managerial capacity. This article presents a systematic literature review to identify the development of SME performance in Indonesia, map the determinants of the sector, highlight the research gap, and formulate policy recommendations and research agendas. Theoretical synthesis includes Resource-Based View (RBV), External Resource/Institutional Theory, Dynamic Capabilities Theory, Social Cognitive Theory. The results of the study show that the performance of SMEs is synergistically influenced by internal factors (human resource competence, innovation, entrepreneurial orientation, and resource management), external factors (access to financing, policy support, partnerships, and digital technology), and managerial behavior (self-efficacy, social learning). Dynamic capabilities serve as a key mechanism that allows organizations to reconfigure internal, external resources to respond to environmental changes and drive sustainable performance. The contribution of this article is an integrative conceptual model and the basis for evidence-based management in SMEs. Practical implications emphasize strengthening internal capacity, expanding strategic networks, accelerating digital transformation, implementing a comprehensive performance management system, and triple helix collaboration. The main limitation lies in the absence of empirical tests and the dominance of cross-sectional cross-sectional studies. The next research is suggested to develop a multi-theory model that is tested longitudinally and quantitatively, delves into digital capabilities and organizational agility, and incorporates the local Indonesian context as a mediating or moderation variable.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between technology adoption, financial ratios that can affect banking performance in Indonesia through the mediation of Net Interest Margin. The research approach is Explanatory Research with purposive sampling technique obtained 35 go pubic banks selected with  9 years of financial statement data  from 2015 to 2023 so as to obtain 315 observations. The research findings show that BOPO strongly influences the NIM variable, giving rise to direct and indirect effects. All direct effects are the largest affecting ROA. Company management must manage Technology Adoption, NPL, LDR, Quality of Earning Assets (QEA) and BOPO to influence Banking Performance. Company management must manage these ratios to provide high ROA so that investors are interested in buying banking stocks. The efficiency of the company represented by BOPO needs to be managed so that NIM increases and can be limited to the maximum.

Abstract

The rapid restructuring of the global telecommunications industry toward data-driven digital ecosystems has intensified the strategic relevance of internal resources, interorganizational dependencies, adaptive capability renewal, and managerial cognition as determinants of organizational performance. This conceptual review integrates Firm Performance Theory with the Resource-Based View (RBV), Resource Dependence Theory (RDT), Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT), and Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) to construct a multi-level explanatory model suited to organizations undergoing digital transformation. Using PT Telkom Indonesia as contextual grounding, the review demonstrates that organizational performance emerges not solely from the possession of VRIN resources, but from the interaction between resource endowments, dependency governance structures, dynamic capability enactment, and the development of cognitive and learning-based competences. The synthesis argues that Telkom’s performance trajectory in transitioning from legacy telecommunication operations toward integrated digital infrastructure and enterprise platform services is shaped by the simultaneous reinforcement of asset orchestration logic, partnership coordination, strategic sensing and reconfiguration routines, and leadership self-efficacy. The article proposes a circular, mutually constitutive model of performance generation rather than a linear causal sequence, highlighting performance as an evolving outcome of co-aligned strategic mechanisms. Research gaps are identified in cognitive microfoundations of digital transformation in state-owned enterprises, dependency–capability interplay in digital infrastructure ecosystems, and performance measurement adaptations for platform-based business models. A future research agenda is proposed to address these gaps.

Abstract

This study aims to integrate organizational performance theory and transformational leadership theory as a conceptual framework for enhancing organizational competitiveness in an increasingly dynamic era of global competition. Organizational performance theory emphasizes the importance of operational effectiveness, resource efficiency, and the achievement of strategic objectives as indicators of organizational success. Meanwhile, transformational leadership theory focuses on leaders' ability to inspire, motivate, and transform organizational members to achieve optimal performance through the development of shared vision, empowerment, and intellectual stimulation. The integration of these two theories yields a conceptual model that positions transformational leadership as the primary driving factor for improving organizational performance, which ultimately has implications for enhancing organizational competitiveness. This study employs a conceptual approach by examining relevant empirical and theoretical literature. The analysis reveals that transformational leaders play a crucial role in creating an adaptive and innovative organizational culture, which serves as the principal foundation for sustainable competitive advantage. Thus, the integration of organizational performance theory and transformational leadership theory provides a new perspective in understanding the internal mechanisms of organizations for achieving long-term competitive advantage. This article recommends the implementation of transformational leadership style as a primary strategy in organizational performance development and competitiveness enhancement across various industry sectors.

Abstract

This study aims to integrate five major theoretical frameworks—Firm Performance Theory, Resource-Based View (RBV), Resource Dependency Theory (RDT), Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT), and Social Cognitive Theory (SCT)—to explain employee performance at PT Bridgestone Tire Indonesia, Bekasi Plant, Cutting Department. By combining these frameworks, the study provides a comprehensive understanding of how organizational resources, environmental dependencies, adaptive capabilities, and social-cognitive mechanisms interact to shape work outcomes. Empirical data is drawn from Rusman (2025), who analyzed both the mediating role of work discipline and the moderating role of work motivation in influencing performance. The findings indicate that internal resources such as human capital, knowledge, and technical skills, as well as external resource dependencies, significantly impact work discipline and overall firm performance. Dynamic capabilities allow employees and the organization to adapt to changing conditions and optimize resource utilization effectively. In parallel, social cognitive factors—including self-efficacy, observational learning, and social reinforcement—play a critical role in shaping employee behavior and discipline. Moreover, work motivation strengthens the relationship between discipline and performance, suggesting that highly motivated employees are more likely to translate disciplined behavior into measurable performance outcomes. These results highlight that organizational excellence is not solely determined by material resources or structural factors but depends on a synergistic combination of systemic resource management, adaptive capabilities, and individual psychological engagement. The study underscores the importance of aligning motivational strategies, discipline management, and resource optimization to achieve sustainable high performance in competitive industrial settings.

Abstract

Digital transformation has fundamentally changed the way employees are managed and how companies strategize. In Indonesia, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the level of readiness to utilize technology remains low due to limited financial resources, a limited understanding of digital technologies, and restricted access to technology facilities. This study seeks to combine three main theories: “Resource-Based View (RBV), Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT), and Social Cognitive Theory (SCT)” to explain the role of HR readiness in improving company performance in the digital era. This study employs the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, collecting articles from sources such as Scopus, Emerald Insight, and SpringerLink, spanning the years 2019 to 2025. The results indicate that HR readiness acts as a bridge between strategic resources, the company's adaptive capabilities, and social learning behaviors. The combination of dynamic capabilities, digital leadership, and self-confidence in the face of digital change provides a sustainable competitive advantage. This study concludes that to succeed in digital transformation, companies must implement a human-centered approach that integrates strategy, technology, and human resource development.

Abstract

This article examines the effect of the implementation of the Balanced Scorecard and financial literacy on the performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Using a systematic analysis in the form of a literature review from recent studies, this article reveals that the Balanced Scorecard and financial literacy significantly contribute to improving the performance of MSMEs. The Balanced Scorecard provides a comprehensive framework for performance measurement through four perspectives: finance, customer, internal processes, and learning & growth, enabling MSMEs to translate strategies into operational actions. Financial literacy empowers MSME owners with essential knowledge in financial management, including budgeting, savings, credit management, and investment decisions. This article identifies research gaps in the integrated implementation of the two concepts and proposes future research directions. The findings show that the combination of strategic performance measurement tools with increasing financial literacy creates a synergistic effect on the sustainability and competitiveness of MSMEs. This article contributes to management theory by bridging the Resource-Based View and strategic management perspectives, while offering practical implications for policymakers and practitioners of MSMEs.
