Abstract

This study aims to explore the urgency of character education in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, characterized by the rapid development of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data. These changes provide significant opportunities for educational innovation, but also give rise to new challenges, such as the degradation of students' character and the dominance of technical skills over moral values. Using a qualitative approach using literature study methods, this study analyzes theories, concepts, and research findings related to character education in the global and Indonesian contexts. The results show that character education is a key element in preparing the younger generation to face the social and ethical challenges presented by technology. Integrating values such as honesty, responsibility, empathy, and digital ethics into the curriculum is crucial for shaping individuals who are not only technically skilled but also possess a solid moral foundation. Character education acts as a moral bulwark that helps students overcome the negative impacts of technology, such as digital addiction and data misuse. In conclusion, character education should not be merely an addition to the curriculum, but must become a central pillar in shaping a generation ready to compete globally while upholding noble values. In the face of rapid change, character education must be strategically designed to strengthen individual moral identity and promote social harmony in the digital era.

Abstract

The moral crisis affecting students in the digital era requires innovation in character education strategies. This study focuses on futuristic pedagogy as an approach capable of addressing these challenges, particularly in elementary schools. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method by combining a systematic literature review with semi-structured interviews with teachers. The findings reveal that futuristic pedagogy is not solely oriented toward the use of technology but also emphasizes the integration of ethical, spiritual, and humanistic values in the learning process. Four key findings emerge: the need for value-based curriculum reformulation, the repositioning of teachers as facilitators and agents of change, the reinforcement of moral values within the digital context, and the synergistic involvement of families and communities in the educational ecosystem. From this synthesis, an integrative model of futuristic pedagogy is developed, combining noble values, technology, and local wisdom to cultivate students who are virtuous, adaptive, and competitive in the era of Society 5.0. This research contributes both theoretically and practically to strengthening sustainable character education in elementary schools.

Abstract

Character development at the elementary school level has become an increasingly urgent issue due to growing moral challenges arising from social change and the expansion of digital technology. Empirical findings indicate that character education practices in elementary schools remain largely normative and have not yet fully supported deep value internalization among students. This study aims to examine character development in elementary school learning through a philosophy of science perspective, encompassing ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions. The research employed a Systematic Literature Review using PRISMA guidelines, analyzing 22 relevant scholarly articles published between 2021 and 2025. The findings reveal that integrating the philosophy of science into elementary learning provides a strong conceptual foundation for character education, where values are not merely introduced as rules but are understood, interpreted, and practiced through reflective and contextual learning experiences. In conclusion, the philosophy of science perspective can function as a comprehensive pedagogical framework for character development in elementary school students.

Abstract

The rapid digital transformation in English Language Education (ELE) has made teacher readiness a critical determinant of successful technology integration. This study aims to investigate the roles of institutional support, self-efficacy, and technological competence in shaping teachers’ readiness across two distinct educational landscapes: Australia and Indonesia. Adopting a quantitative research design, data were collected from 125 English language teachers and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that institutional support, self-efficacy, and technological competence all exert a positive and significant influence on teacher readiness, collectively explaining 65.8% of the model’s variance (R2=0.658). Among the predictors, self-efficacy emerged as the most dominant driver (β=0.428), highlighting the primacy of internal psychological confidence in adopting digital tools. These results underscore that technology integration is a complex socio-technical process requiring a synergistic approach that balances environmental resources with individual psychological resilience. This study contributes to the field of educational technology by providing a robust cross-cultural model, suggesting that professional development must prioritize building digital agency and supportive ecosystems over mere infrastructure procurement to ensure sustainable digital transitions.
