Abstract

Background: The excessive of screen time use among early childhood has become a phenomenon. In Indonesia, early childhood that has used screen time is around 68.01% for watching television, 33.44% using cellphones, and 24.96% have accessed the internet. The use of screen time among early childhood should be reduced because it can affect children to have lower nutrition that can lead to malnutrition and other metabolic disease. Method: This research method uses literature review with a narrative approach. The reference article was conducted on databases in Google Schoolar and PubMed. Results: The impact of excessive screen time use on early childhood’s eating behavior can cause the unhealthy food consumption and picky eating. This behavior will affect children to have lower nutrition that can lead to malnutrition and other metabolic disease. Conclusion: The use of excessive screen time on early childhood can impact the child’s eating behavior.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a nutritional problem due to nutrient deficiency during the first 1000 days of life. Efforts to prevent the occurrence of stunting are essential, considering the impact that will be caused. One way is to provide health education to couples of childbearing age so that they can prepare for their pregnancies well. This study aimed to determine the effect of counseling using explosion boxes to increase the knowledge and attitudes of fertile-age couples. This research uses an analytical, operational study with a quasi-experimental research design with a non-equivalent control group design. This research was conducted by providing health education as a form of intervention that was preceded by measurement of knowledge before and after the intervention. Method: The study used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. This research sample is a fertile age couple in the working area of the Office of the Religious Affairs of Sirah Pulau Padang,Ogan Komering Ilir Distric (OKI) which amounted to 64 respondents. The sampling method uses purposive sampling. The experiment group with the Explosion Box for media education and the control group with the lecture method which was previously given a pretest first and after 14 days. Furthermore, it was analyzed with a dependent sample t-test and an independent sample t-test. Results: The study showed that there was a significant influence in increasing knowledge both in the experimental group (p = 0,000) and the control group (p = 0,000) and the good attitude in the experimental group (p = 0.003) and the control group (p = 0,000). Furthermore, there was no significant difference between respondents' knowledge in the experimental & control group (p = 0.413) with a difference of 0.78 and the attitude of the experimental & control group (p = 0.607) with a difference of 0.98. Conclusion: Counseling with an explosion box is more effective in increasing the knowledge and attitudes of fertile-age couples, even though there is no statistical difference between an explosion box and a lecture. Abstract

Background: Health problems that often occur in SAD communities are low nutritional status and poverty problems in SAD communities. Overcoming stunting requires addressing the main direct cause, namely an inadequate household and family environment. The aim of this research is to analyze parenting patterns and environmental factors for SAD toddlers at risk of stunting in Muaro Jambi Regency. Method: This research uses qualitative methodology with an ethnographic research design. The aim is to study and collect data on environmental factors and parenting patterns based on daily cultural norms and activities adopted by the SAD community in Nyogan Village. Data collection used visual methods, in-depth interviews and FGD (focus group discussions), as well as anthropometric measurements. The informants for this research were 20 people consisting of the main informants, namely 15 mothers of toddlers and 5 key informants. Results: Inadequate maternal parenting and environmental factors are the causes of stunting in SAD toddlers. Conclusion: It is necessary to optimize the mother's caring role in the practice of providing food and hygiene and environmental sanitation to prevent the risk of stunting in toddlers with SAD.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is a persistent public health challenge in Indonesia, particularly among adolescent girls, with prevalence reaching 48.9% in 2018. Despite school-based iron and folic acid (IFA) supplementation programs, major implementation challenges remain. Objective: To evaluate the implementation of IFA policies for adolescents in Indonesia and to identify global strategies that can strengthen national anemia prevention efforts. Method: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines, focusing on studies published between 2019 and 2024. PubMed, Google Scholar, and official Ministry of Health sources were searched using predefined eligibility criteria. Data from eligible studies were synthesized using thematic analysis. Search strings included terms such as: “iron and folic acid supplementation” OR “iron–folic acid” OR “IFA”, combined with “adolescent” OR “school-age girls”, and “policy” OR “program implementation” OR “coverage” OR “adherence”. Results: Five studies met the inclusion criteria. Four main barriers to effective IFA implementation were identified: (1) low adherence due to side effects and misconceptions; (2) logistical weaknesses in tablet distribution; (3) limited stakeholder engagement; and (4) lack of robust monitoring systems. Evidence from other countries shows that school-based education, digital monitoring, and community involvement can improve coverage and compliance. Conclusion: Indonesia’s IFA policy needs strengthening in both structural and behavioral domains. Integrating education, digital tracking, and peer involvement into existing school-based programs may enhance adherence and long-term sustainability.

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia has yet to meet the 80% target set by WHO and the Ministry of Health. Coverage improved from 52% in 2017 to 66.1% in 2020 and reached 70.7% in 2022, but overall progress remains modest. Although national policies mandate exclusive breastfeeding, implementation is hampered by shortages of trained counselors, limited facilities, and cultural preferences for early formula feeding. Compared with neighboring countries, Indonesia is in the middle range, performing better than some but still behind regional leaders. To accelerate progress, stronger human resources, consistent workplace support, and greater community engagement are required to achieve national goals and contribute to global child health targets. Method: This study applied a literature review approach using the Google Scholar database. The initial search identified 3,080 articles, and after screening, only five studies (2020–2024, Indonesian language, full text, involving breastfeeding mothers) met the inclusion criteria. The selection stages were described with a PRISMA diagram. Results: Analysis showed that the most frequently reported barrier was the shortage of breastfeeding counselors, appearing in four of the five studies. Additional challenges included limited facilities, cultural habits such as early use of formula, and insufficient support from families and workplaces. Conclusion: The study concludes that limited breastfeeding counselors and weak family and workplace support are the main barriers, requiring stronger human resources and cross-sectoral collaboration.
