Abstract

Teacher communication is critical in mathematics learning, influencing students’ understanding, engagement, and academic success. This study explores the communication practices of novice, intermediate, and senior mathematics teachers when teaching trigonometric comparisons in right triangles. Using a qualitative exploratory design, classroom observations and interviews were conducted with three vocational high school teachers in Keerom Regency, Papua Province, Indonesia, focusing on five communication aspects: clarity, assertiveness, responsiveness, relevance, and presentation style manipulation. The findings reveal significant differences among the teacher groups. Novice teachers exhibited excellent communication by integrating prerequisite knowledge, employing visual aids, and connecting lessons to real-world applications. Intermediate teachers demonstrated structured but conventional communication methods, focusing on content delivery with limited interactivity. Senior teachers, while experienced and accurate, relied heavily on traditional lecture-based approaches and displayed limited responsiveness to student needs. This study highlights the strengths of novice teachers’ student-centered strategies, such as group activities and guided discovery, which enhanced student engagement and comprehension. The research underscores the need for professional development programs to promote innovative teaching practices across all experience levels. Future studies should examine how professional growth and contextual factors influence teacher communication, contributing to improved mathematics learning outcomes.       Keywords: teacher communication, vocational school, trigonometry, teaching experience. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i4.pp1854-1869

Abstract

One of the subjects that can measure students' problem solving abilities is geometry because geometry discusses objects, definitions, symbols and images that can be used as ideas or ideas by students. This research is a descriptive qualitative study which aims to describe and analyze students' ability to solve problems based on Polya's steps in terms of self-regulated learning (SRL). The subject of this research is one student in each SRL (high, medium, low). Data collection methods are questionnaires, tests and interviews. The results showed that 12.5% of students had high SRL levels, 70.83% had medium SRL level students and 16.67% had low SRL level students. Students with high SRL can complete problem solving according to Polya's steps. Students with moderate SRL can apply the steps of understanding the problem (writing the information available and what is being asked) and the planning steps. Meanwhile, students with low SRL can understand the problems in the questions. Based on interviews students can only provide information from what is contained in the questions but do not have ideas to solve them. Students with low SRL are only able to do the first of the four stages of problem solving. So, it can be concluded that the higher the SRL or the level of one's learning independence, the higher the ability to solve problems.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a significant public health issue in Indonesia, including Bandar Lampung City. Environmental factors, such as poorly managed landfills, are suspected to contribute to the increase in dengue cases by creating conditions supporting the breeding of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, particularly through stagnant water formed among unmanaged waste piles. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between exposure to solid waste (household waste, non-hazardous industrial waste, and construction waste) around the Bakung landfill and the incidence of dengue fever in the surrounding community. Method: Cross-sectional design was conducted in February 2024 in 200 households within a 500-meter radius of the Bakung landfill, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires, interviews, and environmental condition observations. Statistical analysis used chi-square tests and logistic regression to determine relationships and main risk factors. Result: research results show that there was a significant relationship between solid waste exposure and the incidence of dengue fever (p=0.019), with communities exposed to solid waste (household waste, non-hazardous industrial waste, and construction waste) having a 3 times greater risk of contracting dengue fever compared to those not exposed (OR=3.01; p=0.013). In addition, the habit of maintaining environmental cleanliness was also significantly associated with the incidence of dengue fever (p=0.027). The community with good cleanliness habits has a lower risk of contracting dengue fever (OR = 0.43; p = 0.029). Conclusion: This study emphasizes that poor waste management and low environmental hygiene increase DHF cases. Therefore, efforts to improve waste management in Bakung landfill, community education related to sanitation, and government intervention in disease vector control are needed to reduce the incidence of DHF in the area.

Abstract

Brunei Darussalam which embraces Islamic law reform must be carried out in line with what is the goal of Islamic law itself, which is to fulfill the demands of the instincts of human life, and must be based on maslahah which is in line with the principles of maqoshid al-shari'ah and in accordance with the objectives law in the legal system. The formulation of the problem in this article was related to the age limit of marriage in Brunei Darussalam in the perspective of law and politics. The purpose of this research was to understand the legal and political review of the legal determination of the age limit of marriage in Brunei Darussalam. The research type was library research, by collecting data obtained from library research sourced from several books, theses, journals and articles related to the title to be discussed. This research used a juridical, normative, philosophical, and historical approach that served as the answer and solution to the problems that exist in the community and state. The results of this research were that the application of the concept of maslahah to the minimum age limit for marriages in Brunei Darusslam had not been carried out optimally because the country had local wisdom that was still considered in accordance with the context of their respective countries. In the political perspective of legal regulations the minimum age of marriage in Brunei Darussalam still needed to be improved in its justice, legal certainty, and legal usefulness.
