Abstract

Editorial graphic design is a vital skill in the creative industry, especially for producing magazines, brochures, and other publication media. However, the high cost of commercial software licenses such as Adobe InDesign poses a major barrier for students of the Multimedia Graphic Engineering Technology (TRMG) study program in developing editorial design competencies. This community service activity aims to optimize the use of Scribus, an open-source desktop publishing (DTP) software, as a legal and functional alternative for editorial design. The program involved an initial needs assessment, module development, a three-day intensive training, hands-on practice, and pre- and post-training evaluations. The results show a significant improvement in students’ understanding and skills in creating digital publication layouts using Scribus. Additionally, the quality of editorial designs produced by participants improved in terms of visual composition and content structure. This initiative also promotes the ethical and professional use of free-license software. It is expected that Scribus can be integrated into editorial design courses within the TRMG curriculum and support the ongoing development of student portfolios.

Abstract

Reading is one of the four skills that the students should master. Since reading is still difficult for students to learn; therefore, the objective of this study was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in reading achievement between the students who were taught using reading aloud and those who were not. The population of this study was all the eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Pedamaran. The sample of this study was 65 students of two classes, class VIII 2 as the experimental group consisted 32 students, class VIII3 as the control group consisted 33 students. The experimental method was used to conduct to study. The data obtained were analyzed by using t-test. The result of the data showed that mean score posttest of the experimental group was 84.88 while mean score posttest of the control group was 54.18. Based on the result of independent sample t-test, the significant level was 0.000 (P<.000). Since P < .000 was lower than alpha value 0.05, it meant that the research hypothesis (H1) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It can be concluded that there was a significant difference in reading achievement between the students who were taught through reading aloud technique and those who were not

Abstract

This study examines the legal impact of the policy on the confiscation of assets derived from corruption on human rights in Indonesia, focusing on property rights and the presumption of innocence. A qualitative approach is used, combining normative legal analysis with empirical case studies through observation and documentation of asset confiscation cases in Indonesia. The findings indicate that while asset confiscation is a key tool in fighting corruption, its implementation faces legal challenges that jeopardize citizens' constitutional rights. Issues include asset confiscation without a final court decision (inkracht) and inadequate legal protection for third parties acting in good faith. The study suggests the need for policy reforms to strengthen evidence mechanisms, improve transparency, ensure independent oversight, and offer clearer legal protections. These reforms are essential to balancing the fight against corruption with respect for human rights in Indonesia’s legal system. Further research should focus on empirical case examples and a broader theoretical discussion.

Abstract

This research examines the Analysis of Juvenile Court Judges' Decisions Based on John Rawls' Perspective in Ruling on Criminal Cases of Assault Resulting in Death Committed by Minors (Case Study of Decision Number 3/Pid.Sus-Anak/2024/PN.Kds). Currently, many minors are found to be involved in criminal acts, such as violence, as reflected in Decision Number 3/Pid.Sus-Anak/2024/PN.Kds. In this case, the minor collectively engaged in violent acts, including slashing, beating, and kicking the victim, which resulted in severe injuries and ultimately led to the victim's death. This study employs a literature review method and falls under normative legal research. The data is analyzed descriptively and refers to the current doctrinal legal concepts. The research is descriptive-analytical in nature. Based on the research analysis, it can be concluded that Decision Number 3/Pid.Sus-Anak/2024/PN.Kds complies with John Rawls' principles of justice. This decision has considered the fundamental rights of the child, aimed to balance retributive and restorative justice, and provided the minor with an opportunity for rehabilitation. The minor's actions met the qualifications of the charges filed against them, and there are specific provisions in Article 170, Paragraph (2), Clause 3 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) in conjunction with Law No. 11 of 2012 on the Juvenile Criminal Justice System, which apply exclusively to individuals committing acts of violence.

Abstract

Abstrak The judge's decision in the case of possession of sharp weapons by children illustrates the application of the principle of justice in the Indonesian legal system. This study aims to explore more deeply the basis for judges' considerations in upholding the principle of justice in juvenile criminal justice, which focuses on rehabilitation efforts and the formation of social norms in society. This study uses a normative juridical method by analyzing legal documents, applicable regulations, and case studies of court decisions that are the object of discussion by describing them from the sources collected, both from laws and court decisions that will be studied, to then draw conclusions. The principle of the best interests of the child emphasizes that the restorative justice and diversion approaches must be prioritized to avoid the negative impact of the criminal justice process on child development. If there is no indication of the use of weapons for criminal acts, then processing the child criminally can be considered excessive and contrary to the principle of justice. The judge chose to impose a prison sentence in accordance with the provisions of the Law, and provide the child with the opportunity to continue their education, while still punishing the actions that have been committed in accordance with applicable regulations. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of dead band measurements on a 50 Wp polycrystalline photovoltaic (PV) system at the Pamulang University Solar Power Plant (PLTS). Dead band is a phenomenon where changes in power input are not followed by significant changes in output, which often occurs in solar panel-based energy conversion systems. In this study, PV panels were tested with various levels of coverage (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) to simulate partial shading conditions. Voltage, current, and power measurements were carried out using a National Instruments (NI) USB-6212 integrated with LabVIEW software, while light intensity was measured with a lux meter. The results showed that increasing light intensity generally increased the panel output power, but efficiency decreased as the panel temperature increased. In addition, the larger the panel coverage area (dead band), the more significant the decrease in power produced. Dead band conditions were also identified in certain voltage and current ranges, where increasing light intensity no longer provided an increase in power. These findings provide important insights for the design and development of power management systems in solar power plants, especially in mitigating the impacts of lighting variations and partial shading, so that the stability and efficiency of the resulting energy can be improved.

Abstract

The teaching skills of preschool teachers in Mogadishu require significant improvement, particularly in adapting to modern educational methodologies. Despite the growing importance of digital resources, many preschool teachers do not integrate or utilize technology during teaching practices. This preliminary study aims to conduct a needs analysis for developing an educational website focused enhancing the teaching skills of preschool teachers. Data collection was conducted through structured and unstructured interviews with 20 preschool teachers from four preschools in Mogadishu, Somalia. Participants were selected using a stratified purposeful sample and categorized by experience: 10 with < 3 years and 10 with > 3 years. This study used the ADDIE model, which includes Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. However, this study is limited to analyze stage to identify challenges in teaching materials, technology integration gaps, and the role of educational websites in addressing these needs. The study reveals that preschool teachers in Mogadishu predominantly rely on traditional teaching materials, facing significant gaps in resources, while the integration of educational technology remains limited due to insufficient training, digital skills, and technical support. Teachers expressed a strong need for accessible technology-integrated resources. More than 50% of the interviewed teachers preferred educational website for ready-made materials, though some favored offline e-books due to unreliable internet access. Thus, this study underscores the critical need to develop an educational website to enhance preschool teachers' skills in Mogadishu, addressing gaps in technology integration and access to modern teaching resources.

Abstract

Writing skills are an indirect communication activity in the form of activities to express ideas, thoughts, and feelings in written form by paying attention to three basic components, opening, content, closing which must go through a regular practice process. Writing skills are important for students as a foundation in learning Indonesian and other subjects at the school level above. However, the facts in the field show that students' writing skills are still low. Students often study the science of types of writing and grammar, but they lack practice in writing short stories. For this reason, an outdoor learning method was tried to improve writing skills in grade IV elementary school students. Learning was carried out for three meetings at three different schools. The implementation began by providing a writing skills questionnaire (pre-test) and after the completion of the third meeting, students were given writing skills questionnaire questions (post-test) to measure the achievement of students' writing skills. The learning process uses the syntax of the outdoor learning method. The results of the study showed that students' writing skills improved after participating in learning. Students were able to create stories according to ideas, the content of the stories produced was well organized, the grammar used met the writing procedures, the language structure was well structured, the use of good and correct spelling and writing.
