Abstract

The Budaya Gemar Baca dan Tulis (BUGEMM) Program was developed by SMA Plus Negeri 17 Palembang as a strategy to strengthen the school's literacy culture and enhance students' scientific writing skills. This study aims to explore the implementation of the BUGEMM Program and to identify its supporting and inhibiting factors. The research employed a qualitative field-based approach. Data were collected through on-site observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Participants were selected purposively and included the vice principal for curriculum affairs, the BUGEMM program coordinator, mentor teachers, and students involved in the program. Data analysis was conducted through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the BUGEMM Program is implemented in an organized and systematic manner through several stages, including program socialization, appointment of supervising teachers, student grouping, topic selection, reference searching, outline preparation, drafting, and scientific paper presentation. Supervising teachers play a crucial role by providing guidance, intensive supervision, and continuous evaluation throughout the writing process. Supporting factors include strong school policies, adequate literacy facilities, teacher competence, parental involvement, and consistent scheduling. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors consist of low student engagement in literacy activities and limited parental support at home. Overall, the results demonstrate that the BUGEMM Program contributes positively to improving students' scientific writing skills and strengthening the literacy culture within the school environment.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become increasingly significant in higher education, making multidimensional AI literacy essential for pre-service English teachers. Yet, empirical evidence in English Language Teaching (ELT) remains limited, particularly regarding students’ AI literacy profiles, the autonomous strategies they use to develop such literacy, and the barriers affecting responsible AI use. This study employed an explanatory sequential mixed-method design in Indonesia. Quantitative data were collected through a 30-item AI literacy questionnaire administered to 200 pre-service English teachers, followed by semi- structured interviews and focus group discussions with a purposive subsample of 25 participants. The findings indicate an uneven AI literacy profile. Although participants demonstrated strong competence in the practical use of AI tools, they showed weaker performance in higher-order dimensions, especially evaluative and ethical aspects. The qualitative data further revealed that students developed AI literacy through self-directed strategies such as prompt experimentation and output verification, but these efforts were constrained by limited institutional guidance and persistent ethical uncertainty. The study suggests that teacher education programs should incorporate structured AI literacy instruction supported by clear institutional policies to strengthen critical, reflective, and responsible AI engagement in ELT contexts.

Abstract

The improvement of the quality of graduates in integrated Islamic elementary schools is highly determined by the quality of educators andeducation staff. Problems that often arise in the management of private schools are the recruitment and selection process that is not fully based onstrategic needs and expected quality indicators of graduates. This study aims to analyze the recruitment and selection strategies of educators andeducation personnel and their implications on the quality of graduates at SDIT Al Malik Prabumulih. The research uses a qualitative approachwith a case study design. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews with school principals, selection teams, and teachers, observation of the recruitment process, and analysis of internal policy documents. The results of the study show that the recruitment strategy based on four teachercompetencies (pedagogic, professional, social, and personality) strengthened with religious standards typical of integrated Islamic schools hassignificant implications for improving the quality of graduates, both in academic aspects and Islamic character. Selection is carried out throughmultiple stages: administration, written and psychological tests, microteaching, Qur'an reading and memorization tests, aptitude tests, and Islamicvalue interviews. Final decision-making is carried out through committee assessments, school principals' istikharah and foundation meetings.Teacher performance evaluations are carried out monthly, semi-annually, and annually with a reward and punishment system. The contribution ofthis research is the development of a model of "Quality-Based Recruitment of Islamic Graduates" that integrates professional competence, valuesuitability, and a continuous evaluation system as a strategy to improve the quality of integrated Islamic elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of TikTok social media usage on the learning concentration of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 165 Palembang. This study uses a quantitative approach with an ex post facto research type. The sample in this study amounted to 20 students selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques were carried out through questionnaires, observation, and documentation. The research instrument used a Likert scale of 1–4 which has been tested for validity and reliability. The data analysis technique used was simple linear regression with prerequisite tests in the form of normality and linearity tests. The results showed that all instruments were declared valid and reliable with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.926. The research data were also normally distributed and had a linear relationship. The results of the regression analysis showed that there was a significant effect between TikTok social media usage on student learning concentration, as indicated by a significance value smaller than 0.05. The direction of the resulting effect tended to be negative, which means that the higher the intensity of TikTok use, the lower the student's learning concentration. Based on these results, it can be concluded that TikTok social media usage affects student learning concentration. Therefore, supervision and control of social media usage are needed to prevent negative impacts on the learning process.
