Abstract

This study is motivated by indications of low work discipline and work spirit among employees of the Tourism Office of North Kolaka Regency, as reflected in late attendance, absenteeism, and frequent leave submissions. Such conditions potentially affect employee performance and the overall achievement of organizational work programs. Leadership therefore plays a crucial role in shaping employee behavior, performance, and organizational work culture. This research aims to identify the leadership style applied by the Head of the Tourism Office in managing the tourism sector, to examine its influence on employee performance and work program achievement, and to analyze its impact on organizational work culture. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using an inductive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that the Head of the Tourism Office applies a character-based leadership style, characterized by exemplary behavior, discipline enforcement, continuous evaluation, and direct guidance to employees. This leadership style positively influences employee performance, supports the successful implementation of work programs, and fosters a more disciplined and responsible work culture within the organization. The study concludes that character leadership is an effective leadership approach in improving employee performance and organizational effectiveness in the public sector.

Abstract

Mathematics learning outcomes in Indonesian junior high schools, particularly in rural areas such as Pakue Tengah District, North Kolaka, remain below expectations. Many students fail to reach the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM), indicating the need to examine classroom-level factors that may influence achievement. This study aims to analyze the relationship between classroom management and learning discipline with students’ mathematics learning outcomes. A survey method with a correlational approach was employed, involving a sample of 73 eighth-grade students selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires on classroom management and learning discipline, along with mathematics achievement tests, and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results show that classroom management has a positive and significant relationship with mathematics outcomes (r = 0.579; R² = 33.52%), while learning discipline also demonstrates a significant relationship (r = 0.533; R² = 28.41%). Together, both variables explain 55.95% of the variance in students’ mathematics achievement. These findings align with prior studies highlighting the importance of effective classroom management and discipline in enhancing student engagement and learning results. The study implies that teachers should strengthen classroom management strategies, promote learning discipline, and foster conducive environments. Academically, the research contributes by providing empirical evidence from a rural Indonesian context, while practically it offers recommendations for teacher training and school policy to improve mathematics achievement.

Abstract

Character education is a fundamental component of the educational system aimed at fostering individuals with integrity, ethical awareness, and a strong sense of responsibility. This study examines the synergy between teachers and parents in shaping students’ character at SMA Negeri 1 Porehu, while also identifying existing challenges and effective strategies for improvement. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving nine key informants, including the school principal, teachers, and parents. The findings reveal that teacher–parent synergy remains limited due to ineffective communication and low parental participation in school activities. Nevertheless, initiatives such as the internalization of positive values through the “Morning Habituation” program and the establishment of regular communication forums between the school and parents have proven to enhance the effectiveness of character development. Supporting factors include well-structured school programs and active parental involvement, whereas major obstacles consist of value discrepancies between home and school environments and negative social influences. This study recommends strengthening collaborative-based character education programs by actively engaging parents in both instructional and character-building processes to ensure consistent and sustainable character formation among students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the North Sumatra Provincial Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) in controlling street children in the Kampung Lalang area, on the border between Medan City and Deli Serdang Regency, and to identify the obstacles encountered in its implementation. The research method used a qualitative approach with interview, observation, and documentation techniques. The research informants consisted of Satpol PP officials, relevant social agencies, and street children who were the objects of control. The results showed that the role of Satpol PP had been carried out based on Biddle's (1986) role theory, which includes normative, functional, coordinative, social expectation, and rehabilitative roles. Although the normative and coordinative roles were carried out quite well, the implementation of the rehabilitative and social roles was not optimal due to limited resources and weak cross-sector coordination. Internal obstacles included limited personnel, facilities, and budget, while external obstacles included family economic factors, low educational awareness, and a lack of guidance facilities. This study recommends strengthening the institutional capacity of Satpol PP, inter-agency synergy, and a child protection-based approach to enforcement.

Abstract

Forest and land fires represent a recurring environmental challenge in Indonesia, especially during the prolonged dry season. These incidents result in significant consequences, including the destruction of ecosystems, threats to human health, and considerable economic disruption. To address this problem, the present research focuses on the development of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based system designed to predict and monitor the risk of forest fires by implementing the Fuzzy Logic method. The prototype integrates several sensors, namely a DHT22 sensor for measuring temperature and humidity, an MQ-2 sensor for detecting gas and smoke concentrations, and a flame sensor for identifying the presence of fire. All sensors are connected to a NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller that serves as the core of data processing and wireless communication. The collected sensor data is evaluated using a Fuzzy Logic algorithm, which classifies the fire risk into three distinct levels: “Safe,” “Caution,” and “Hazardous.” Experimental testing demonstrates that the system responds effectively to fluctuations in temperature, humidity, smoke levels, and visible flame in real time, with alerts displayed through a web-based dashboard. The DHT22 sensor exhibits an average error rate between 4.8% and 5% for temperature readings and between 4.1% and 4.5% for humidity measurements. In addition, the flame sensor successfully detects fire sources at distances reaching 300 cm. The outcomes confirm that the system achieves a high degree of reliability and accuracy, thereby providing valuable support for early warning, strengthening preventive strategies, and assisting authorities in mitigating the severe impacts of forest and land fires.

Abstract

Infectious disease has become a serious problem over the past few years. At the same time, research on disease dynamics keeps advancing, especially on diseases caused by viruses. One concept that has been used in epidemic models is fractional calculus, or more specifically, fractional differential equations. This paper discusses the analytical properties of a fractional-order SEIR model, which are then verified by numerical simulations. Analytical results have shown that the global asymptotic stability of disease-free equilibrium is achieved when the basic reproduction number is equal to or less than 1, while endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable when the value is greater than 1. Simulation results from Explicit Fractional Order Runge-Kutta (EFORK) method are confirmed to be in agreement with the basic properties provided by the analysis. The results also illustrate the impact of fractional-order and recovery rate on temporary immunity, which indicates that smaller fractional-orders converge faster compared to larger orders.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of gender constructs and female independence in the film Brave (2012) from a feminist perspective. This Pixar film is important to study because it presents a narrative that differs from traditional Disney princess films, in which female characters tend to be portrayed as passive, waiting to be rescued, and their happiness dependent on male characters. Brave, on the other hand, presents female characters who actively determine their own destinies, making it an interesting case for feminist analysis in children's animated films. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method with documentation techniques through observation of scenes and dialogues relevant to gender issues. The data is analyzed through the stages of identification, thematic classification, and interpretation using bell hooks' (2000) feminist theoretical framework, particularly the concept of feminism as a transformative movement and the importance of solidarity between generations of women.. The results of the study show three main findings. First, the film depicts a rejection of traditional gender constructs through Merida's refusal to be married off and her claim to the right to determine her own destiny. Second, female independence is represented as the ability to make decisions and take responsibility, rather than dependence on men. Third, the mother-daughter relationship becomes a space for negotiating gender values between generations. The film emphasizes that women's independence can be achieved through dialogue and relationship transformation, not isolation from the family. These findings have important implications for media representation and gender equality, showing that animated children's films can be a medium for spreading accessible feminist values and influencing the way children, especially girls, understand gender roles and develop expectations about women's independence from an early age. Brave offers a more inclusive feminist perspective in the discourse on gender in popular media.

Abstract

This study examines the metaphorical language style in Aziz Hedra's album "Lesson Learned" through the Conceptual Metaphor Theory as articulated by Lakoff and Johnson (1980), using the MIPVU as an analytical instrument in a qualitative descriptive methodology. The investigation focused on five carefully selected songs, from which forty-two distinct metaphorical expressions were extracted and systematically categorized according to ontological, structural, and orientational classifications. The findings indicate that ontological metaphors occupy a dominant position, conceptualizing emotional states as real entities and constructing a unified emotional trajectory that progresses from suffering to healing. The study ultimately argues that metaphors operate as fundamental cognitive mechanisms rather than merely decorative linguistic features, thus advancing the analysis of both cognitive linguistics and musicology through an increased understanding of emotional significance in lyrical compositions.
