Abstract

Reading is one of the determining factors for educational success in a school. Reading ability is students' ability to understand the texts they read. One factor that influences this ability is interest in reading. To increase students' interest in reading, there needs to be a role for quality libraries, especially school libraries. This study aims to examine the role of the library in increasing students' reading interest at SD Islam Khalifah Annizam Palembang. Reading interest is a crucial aspect of students' academic and intellectual development. Using a descriptive qualitative research method with a case study approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the school library plays a significant role in enhancing students' reading interest. Various library programs such as scheduled reading times, storytelling activities, and a diverse and interesting book collection have successfully captured students' attention and increased their reading frequency. Additionally, support from teachers and parents also plays a role in creating a conducive environment for developing reading interest. The research results show that students' interest in reading is quite good, which can be seen from the programs and activities implemented by the library to increase their interest in reading. However, the role of libraries is not yet fully effective in increasing students' interest in reading, so improvements and optimization of library programs and activities are needed. In conclusion, the school library plays an essential role in increasing students' reading interest and should be continuously developed with innovative programs to support their academic achievement.

Abstract

Improving the quality of learning at the elementary school level, particularly in rural areas such as Cluster 1 in Tungkal Jaya District, still faces significant obstacles, as indicated by suboptimal literacy and numeracy outcomes. This study aims to empirically examine the influence of principal leadership and teacher performance on learning quality, both partially and simultaneously, to fill a research gap that rarely examines the context of rural elementary schools holistically. Using a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design, this study employed a saturated sampling technique involving the entire population of 80 teachers as respondents. Data collection was conducted comprehensively through observation, questionnaires, and documentation, which were then analyzed using linear regression techniques. The research findings revealed that principal leadership contributed 22% of the influence, while teacher performance had a more dominant impact at 45.4%. Simultaneously, these two variables contributed significantly to learning quality, amounting to 51%. In-depth analysis revealed that despite regular evaluations, there were crucial weaknesses in principals' managerial problem-solving skills and a lack of enrichment services for high-achieving students. The main conclusion confirms that the synergy between solution-oriented instructional leadership and adaptive teacher pedagogical performance is a vital determinant in boosting the quality of basic education.

Abstract

Improving the quality of basic education is often hampered by the gap between teacher competency standards and learning practices in the field, as indicated in Cluster 1, Tungkal Jaya District, which is still dominated by conventional methods. This study aims to empirically examine the influence of teacher pedagogical and professional competencies on learning quality in order to formulate targeted strategies for improving education quality. Using a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design, this study employed a total sampling technique involving the entire population of 80 public elementary school teachers as respondents. Data collection was conducted comprehensively through a validated questionnaire, then analyzed using multiple linear regression. The research findings revealed that pedagogical competency contributed 28.8%, while professional competency had a more dominant impact on learning quality, at 48.4%. Simultaneously, these two variables contributed significantly, at 57.5%. The main conclusion confirms that optimizing learning quality is highly dependent on the synergy between classroom management skills and in-depth mastery of the material. Therefore, a continuous professional development program is needed to holistically improve teacher capabilities.
