Abstract

The high rate of violence against women in Makassar City has caused various physical and psychological impacts on victims, including trauma, stress, anxiety, and decreased quality of life. Therefore, a facility that can provide protection, empowerment, and psychological recovery for women victims of violence is urgently needed. The purpose of this design is to create a Women’s Development and Empowerment Center in Makassar City using a healing environment approach, providing a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic space that supports users’ psychological recovery. The method used is a qualitative descriptive method through site observation, literature study, space requirement analysis, circulation analysis, and the application of the healing environment concept to site planning, exterior, and interior design. The design concept is implemented through the use of natural elements, green open spaces, healing gardens, natural lighting, natural ventilation, aromatherapy vegetation, and zoning arrangements consisting of public, semi-public, semi-private, and private areas to enhance both physical and psychological comfort for users. The design results show that applying the healing environment concept can create a more therapeutic, human-centered atmosphere that supports the emotional recovery of women victims of violence by integrating nature, comfortable circulation systems, and sensory elements that promote relaxation and reduce users’ stress levels.

Abstract

Culinary tourism in Indonesia has grown rapidly and has become a significant attraction for local tourism development. East Luwu Regency possesses a diverse range of local culinary potential that has yet to be fully optimised through well-designed spaces that enhance the visitor experience and local identity. This study aims to design a Culinary Tourism Park using a thematic architecture approach with a contemporary theme, integrating building elements, materials, and landscaping harmoniously. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, collecting primary data through field surveys to assess site conditions, accessibility, and topography, along with secondary data from literature studies on culinary parks, thematic architecture, and contemporary design. The data are systematically analysed through descriptive synthesis to develop a design concept that maximises functionality, aesthetics, and visitor comfort. The results indicate that the application of contemporary thematic architecture successfully establishes a strong visual identity, interactive visitor experiences, and a harmonious integration of spatial functions, materials, and landscape elements. The Culinary Tourism Park can serve as a local tourism icon while enhancing social interaction and economic potential in East Luwu Regency.

Abstract

Polewali Mandar Regency has strong historical and cultural values, one of which is reflected in the Galung Lombok tragedy as an important part of the collective memory of the Mandar community. However, these historical values have not yet been fully incorporated into an educational facility that can visually and emotionally convey the meanings of struggle, loss, and resilience. This study aims to design the Galung Lombok Museum in Polewali Mandar Regency using a metaphorical architectural approach as a medium for historical preservation and the strengthening of local cultural identity. The method used is a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through literature reviews, field surveys, interviews, and previous studies. The data were analyzed to formulate a design concept that aligns with the historical values of the Galung Lombok and Mandar cultures. The design results show that the metaphorical architectural approach is applied through building form, façade design, spatial layout, and supporting elements. The building form represents the journey of history, the crack symbolizes collective wounds, and the tip of the Sandeq boat inspires the Lamba’na façade as a symbol of maritime identity and struggle. In contrast, the Uai façade symbolizes the flow of a river, representing time continuity, life, and healing. Thus, the Galung Lombok Museum is expected to become a space for education and reflection, as well as a cultural icon that preserves the historical memory of the Mandar community.
