Abstract

Hair quality and health are important not only for the esthetical reasons but also to maintained the hair’s function in protecting the head. Carrot seed oil (CSO) is rich in vitamin A and beta-carotene, which influence hair quality. CSO also contains carotol, which has anti-fungal properties that treat dandruff. This research aimed to observe the potential of CSO as a hair growth promoter. Twenty male rats were used in the study, with their backs shaved and divided into two areas, each with different frequencies of CSO application. The backs of the rats were given CSO every day for 14 consecutive days with different concentrations, i.e., 25%, 50%, and 75%. Hair growth  was assessed based on its length, root, shaft, and tip thickness on days 9,12, and 14 and the results were recorded. On day 15, the rats were euthanized and their skin was collected to observe the number of follicles. Results showed that the application of CSO with different concentrations had no effect on hair length growth but it did affect the thickness of the root, shaft, and tip of the hair, with the best concentration being 75%. The frequency of application did not seem to affect the growth in terms of the length or thickness of the root, shaft, and tip of the hair; however, the application of CSO with 75% concentration and an application frequency of once a day produced the best amount of follicle regeneration.

Abstract

This systematic literature review investigates the role of computer modeling in science education with the objective of synthesizing its effectiveness in enhancing students' understanding of complex scientific concepts and providing actionable recommendations for pedagogical and policy improvements. The study employs a systematic approach to analyze 27 peer-reviewed articles published between 2019 and 2023, sourced from the Scopus database. Through this review, it is evident that computer modeling facilitates the visualization of abstract phenomena, such as molecular changes and planetary movements, which are otherwise challenging to observe in traditional classroom settings. Furthermore, the findings demonstrate that computer simulations positively impact student engagement and motivation, leading to increased interest, participation, and critical thinking skills in science subjects. However, several challenges persist, including teacher skill gaps, insufficient technological infrastructure, and an over-reliance on virtual experiences, which limit the broader implementation of this innovative tool. This review concludes that addressing these barriers is crucial to maximizing the potential of computer modeling in science education. The insights derived from this study serve as valuable guidelines for educators and policymakers to effectively integrate computer modeling into science curricula, thereby advancing both teaching practices and student learning outcomes. This study concludes with actionable policy recommendations, including teacher training, infrastructure development, and curriculum integration, to address pedagogical challenges and technological barriers

Abstract

Background Individuals experience varying levels of fatigue and stamina. Moringa oleifera Lam. Seed extract relieves fatigue due to its high levels of antioxidants and glucosinolate glucomoringin, which reduces intracellular oxidative stress. Objectives This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of infusion of M. oleifera seed as a stamina stimulator in mice. Methods This experiment used 25 male mice divided into five groups (five mice in each group), consisting of M. oleifera seed infusion at doses of 0, 1, 3, and 5 g/kg BW as the negative control and treatment groups, and caffeine at a dose of 6.5 mg/kg BW as the positive control group. Stamina effectiveness was evaluated using a swimming endurance test that measured swimming duration and physiological parameters every 15 min for 2 h after administration. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey’s test. Results M. oleifera seed infusion at a dose of 3 g/kg BW had the shortest swimming duration difference (Δ) value, with no difference compared to the 5 g/kg BW and caffeine groups, but was significantly different (P<0.05) compared to the 0 and 1 g/kg BW groups. M. oleifera seed infusion at a dose of 3 g/kg BW also showed a lower delta value for body surface temperature and heartbeat rate compared to the negative control, and a lower delta value for the respiratory rate compared to the 5 g/kg BW group. Conclusion M. oleifera seed infusion potentially maintains stamina performance in mice at a dose of 3 g/kg BW.

Abstract

This community service program presents an integrated approach to address stunting through optimization of milkfish utilization as a high-nutrition food source. Despite Tarakan's coastal area having fisheries potential reaching 2.3 tons annually, local health department data reveals stunting prevalence of 24.3%. This paradoxical situation stems from low fish consumption among toddlers (only 32% of WHO recommendation), mainly due to children's preference for instant food and parents' limited knowledge in attractive fish processing methods. The program implements participatory learning methods through three main stages: interactive nutrition education, technical fish processing training, and micro-enterprise development mentoring. Ten mothers and children actively participated in all activities. Evaluation results show significant cognitive improvement with post-test scores reaching 82 compared to 41 in pre-test. On skills aspect, 88% participants could produce quality-standard fish nuggets. The establishment of two business groups with average weekly revenue of Rp1.2 million demonstrates the program's tangible economic impact
