Abstract

This qualitative case study presents an effective pedagogical model for cultivating intercultural competence (ICC) and digital citizenship among Indonesian and Filipino English Foreign Language (EFL) students through cross-cultural collaboration. Despite the recognized effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PBL), a gap exists in the literature that explicitly examines how PBL and digital platforms can simultaneously foster ICC through collaborative digital content creation among the distinct Southeast Asian student population. Investigating the collaborative process behind the creation of the digital story ‘One Sea, Two Cultures,’ the study reveals that digitally mediated PBL is a powerful method for achieving higher levels of ICC; the process facilitated a critical shift from basic cultural appreciation to a deeper understanding of shared maritime heritage, enhancing participant sensitivity, empathy, and openness. Furthermore, digital tools like Canva were instrumental in overcoming initial logistical and language barriers, while the project simultaneously provided an authentic context that effectively improved students’ EFL skills. This study, thus, validates the digital-based PBL approach as a credible pedagogical model for fostering responsible digital citizenship and robust cross-cultural communication in EFL instruction.

An utterance having pragma-stylistics elements has to be interpreted well because how the speakers communicate and the hearers interpret cannot simply be defined from the language features or the meaning of the words. This research aims at analyzing pragma-stylistics strategies by main characters in a movie, the elements of the pragma-stylistics strategies in the story plot of the narrative stages in the movie, and the pedagogical implications of the pragma-stylistics strategies toward English Language Teaching (ELT). This descriptive qualitative research obtained the data from Cinderella movie. The pragmatics elements consist of speech acts, while the stylistics elements consist of figures of speech. The results show that there are 43 pragma-stylistics strategies that contain of 32 speech acts and 11 figures of speech in Cinderella movie. The results also show that the pragma-stylistics contribute the story plot of the narrative stages in Cinderella movie that can be seen in all parts of the movie plot; exposition, complication, crisis, climax, and resolution. Last but not least, the pedagogical implication of this study found that the pragma-stylistics strategies are also useful in learning context since it offers some concrete and classroom-ready activities for ELT.

Abstract

The widespread use of English is depicted in the LinguisticLandscape (LL) in Tulungagung competes the Indonesianlanguage (the national language) and Javanese language (thelocal language). The present study is aimed (1) to view theposition of English language among the existing languages, (2) toinvestigate what motive that urges a signage owner in acquiringEnglish, and (3) to explain the role performed by English insociety. A descriptive qualitative method in research is carried outto explain the phenomenon. Data were collected from anobservation of languages appear on signage and an interview tothe signage owner. This study is set up in Tulungagung Regencythat characterized as the Central Business District (CBD). Fromthe total 460 photographed signages observed and the interviewsdone, it is shown that English in society is not more dominant thanthe Indonesian language in use as explained by Landry & Bourhis(1997) but as the interviews done with the signage owner, itnarrates that English carries some characterization proposed byPiller (2001) that urge a party to acquire English and it also playssignificant roles in society, specifically in business field as statedby Lee (2019). Thus, it challenges the use of local language, theJavanese language, since English appears within its excellence.

Abstract

Public transportation plays an important role in supporting community mobility and creating an inclusive and sustainable urban system. This study aims to analyze the integration of the public transportation system in Tangerang City by reviewing three main aspects: organizational, operational, and physical. The problem of fragmentation of services between modes and the limitation of coordination between institutions are the main background of this study. The research uses a qualitative case study approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and review of city transportation policy documents. The results of the study show that institutional integration between the Transportation Agency, transportation operators, and third parties such as PT TNG (Tangerang Nusantara Global) is still not optimal due to overlapping authority and lack of coordination platforms. From an operational perspective, service schedules and routes between modes have not supported each other in an integrated manner. Meanwhile, physically, integration between transportation nodes such as bus stops, terminals, and pedestrian paths is inadequate. These findings underscore the need for collaborative approaches and cross-sectoral planning to strengthen integrated public transport systems. This research makes a conceptual and practical contribution to the development of an efficient urban transportation system, especially in metropolitan areas with complex governance challenges such as Tangerang City.
