Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan efektivitas penanganan jagung pasca panen melalui inovasi mesin pemipil biji jagung bagi Kelompok Tani Antokan Sutra di Kabupaten Agam. Proses pemipilan jagung secara manual yang selama ini dilakukan memerlukan waktu yang lama dan tenaga kerja yang intensif, sehingga menghambat produktivitas dan efisiensi petani dalam pengelolaan hasil panen. Mesin pemipil biji jagung yang diperkenalkan dalam kegiatan ini dirancang dengan teknologi sederhana namun efektif, sehingga mudah dioperasikan oleh petani. Metode yang digunakan meliputi tahap identifikasi kebutuhan kelompok tani, pelatihan penggunaan mesin, dan pendampingan teknis dalam operasional mesin. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan mesin pemipil biji jagung berhasil mengurangi waktu pemipilan hingga 50% dibandingkan dengan metode manual, serta meningkatkan kualitas biji jagung yang dihasilkan. Dampak dari inovasi ini tidak hanya pada peningkatan efisiensi kerja namun juga mendorong peningkatan pendapatan kelompok tani melalui pengelolaan waktu yang lebih baik dan hasil panen yang lebih optimal. Diharapkan dengan adanya mesin ini, produktivitas dan kesejahteraan petani dapat semakin meningkat, serta dapat menjadi model pengembangan teknologi pasca panen di daerah lain.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between the use of AI chatbots and learning outcomes in the field of basic mechanical engineering among students of SMK Negeri 1 Lintau Buo. Although conventional teaching methods are used, this study is considered necessary due to the insufficient learning performance of the students in meeting the minimum completion criteria. The research method used in this study is quasi-experimental, this is a form of quantitative research. The participants were 59 students of class X of the mechanical engineering program. The analysis of the data showed that both the data come from populations with normal distribution and homogeneity. This has been confirmed by Liliefors and Fisher normality tests. Due to the fact that the calculated t-value of 2.341 exceeded the decisive t-value of 2.002, the results demonstrated the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H1) at a significance level of 0.05. This was evidenced by a substantial improvement in the average pupils in the experimental group's post-test results, rising from an initial average score of 66.2 to 83.58 after the implementation of the AI chatbot as an educational support platform.

Abstract

The role of education is crucial in individual self-development to overcome faced challenges. The learning process is a fundamental means to enhance this educational role. However, to support an effective learning process, appropriate media is needed to ensure that information received by students is more easily understood. At SMKS Dhuafa Padang, for the lathe machining technique subject, learning media is still limited to whiteboards, textbooks, and PowerPoint presentations, which create student dependency on teachers. The lack of visualization in learning results in students having difficulty understanding the material. Therefore, E-modules become a solution to improve the quality of lathe machining technique learning. E-modules allow students to learn independently with neatly and systematically arranged material, stronger visualization, and interactivity. In conducting this research, the researcher used a Research and Development (R&D) approach and employed the Instructional Development Institute (IDI) development procedure, which has three steps: Define (needs analysis), Develop (e-module media design), and Evaluate (Validity Evaluation). The research instrument used questionnaires filled out by validators (teachers and lecturers), and the research results showed a score of 0.925 for material validity and 0.903 for media validity, indicating that this e-module media is feasible and valid for application as learning media. It is hoped that with the existence of this E-module, it can be utilized as additional learning media in the Lathe Machining Technique learning process.

Abstract

Implementing Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is a way to prevent occupational hazards. Initial observations showed that students did not follow the OHS guidelines. This problem is suspicious because SMK has not established safety measures in the workplace. Students still do not understand OHS, so it requires development so that the application of work safety can adjusted to normal demands of industry. If this is left unchecked, SMK graduates will become less capable. The Destination of occupational safety and health is to establish a prosperous, safe, and healthy work environment and society. With OHS, a workforce that is free from accidents and has good physical, mental and social health will create a safe working environment. The purpose of implementing OSH is very important to maximise the results achieved because it ensures the safety and security of workers, as well as the security of facilities and infrastructure, and prevents accidents. This study found a significant relationship between OHS knowledge and student learning outcomes, as evidenced by the test results. Twenty students from grades XI and XII in the Mechanical Engineering Department participated in this study during January - June 2023/2024. The value showed a Substansial relationship between OHS knowledge and student performance at SMK Pembangunan Bukittinggi. This was confirmed by the regression test results, with an R value > 0.657 which R table value of 0.444, thus supporting the research hypothesis.

Abstract

In the era of globalisation, education plays an important role in creating a prosperous society. Teachers have a crucial role in improving the quality of education in Indonesia. Interest in becoming a teacher is a condition in which a person has great attention to the teaching profession, feels happy, and wants to become a teacher. This study aims to identify the interest of undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Education Study Programme students in choosing a profession as a teacher. Based on observations and interviews with students of the Mechanical Engineering Education Study Programme, Faculty of Engineering, Padang State University, it is known that many students are not interested in becoming teachers. Some of the reasons underlying this include lack of self-confidence, doubts about income, opportunities to become a teacher, and personal ability to deal with student characteristics. This study aims to determine the description of interest in becoming a teacher in Mechanical Engineering Education Study Programme students at Padang State University. The research method used is descriptive with a quantitative approach, with a sample of 25% of the population or 43 people. The results showed that the interest of Mechanical Engineering Education Study Programme students at Padang State University towards the vocational teaching profession reached 81.36%, which is included in the good category. In conclusion, students of Mechanical Engineering Education Study Programme at Padang State University have a good interest in becoming a teacher.

Abstract

Most of the teaching and learning of Manufacturing Engineering Drawing is still teacher-centered. Learning with the conventional model previously used made students passive and not independent in their learning. As a result, students are unable to understand the basic concepts of CAD drawings, interpret drawings, and understand the function of tools found in AutoCAD tools. This makes student learning achievements far from the minimum graduation criteria set by SMKN 5 Padang. The use of the Team Based Project learning model in this research aims to see its effect on student learning outcomes. Cluster random sampling is a sampling technique. To collect data, a pretest was carried out before the two groups were given different treatments. After the treatment, a post-test and assessment of student performance was carried out. The results of the analysis show that there are significant differences in learning outcomes. The test results showed an average in the cognitive domain of 88.7 for the experimental class and 82.58 for the control class, in the psychomotor domain 81.76 for the experimental class and 74.11 for the control class. Then the sign value from the T-test and F-test results is <0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the Team Based Project learning model has a significant influence on student learning outcomes in Manufacturing Engineering Drawing.

Abstract

In recent years, the exploration of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composites has garnered significant attention due to their versatility applications in aqueous environments. However, despite their promise, neat PVA exhibit limitations such as significant mechanical degradation under repeated swelling cycles. This study investigates the durability and tribological performance of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composites reinforced with nickel-iron layered double hydroxide (LDH) and tannic acid (TA) under repeated swelling cycles. Building on previous research that explored composite preparation and initial characterization, this research emphasizes the effects of cyclic swelling on wear resistance, friction behavior, and mechanical properties. Tribological tests were conducted to evaluate the coefficient of friction (COF) and wear rate before and after multiple swelling cycles, alongside tensile strength and strain measurements. The results revealed that the PVA/TA2/LDH2 composite, containing the highest additive content, exhibited the lowest wear rate of 11.52 × 10⁻⁵ mm³/Nm after 3 swelling cycles, demonstrating superior resistance to material degradation. Although PVA/TA2/LDH1 exhibited a slightly lower COF, its wear rate was higher due to reduced reinforcement. Compared to neat PVA, which showed a COF increase from 0.45 to 0.53, the PVA/LDH/TA composites retained their tribological stability, with only a marginal increase in COF and wear rate. Similarly, tensile strength of PVA/TA2/LDH2 decreased by only 11% after 3 cycles (from 33.3 MPa to 30 MPa), while neat PVA experienced a 25.5% reduction (from 30 MPa to 22.5 MPa). These findings highlight the potential of PVA/LDH/TA composites for applications in aqueous environments, offering significantly enhanced long-term performance and reliability.

Abstract

The subject of Basic Mechanical Engineering serves as a fundamental foundation for understanding various basic concepts that will be utilized in the practice and further development of mechanical engineering skills. However, based on observations, many students have unsatisfactory learning outcomes. This study aims to examine the influence of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the learning outcomes of Grade X students in the Basic Mechanical Engineering subject at SMK Negeri 1 Padang. The research was conducted from October 7 to November 7, 2024, focusing on the elements of Occupational Health and Safety and Industrial Work Culture. The method used was an experimental study with two classes, namely the experimental class using PBL and the control class using conventional methods. Data were collected through a post-test consisting of 20 objective questions and 5 essay questions, as well as observations of students' learning activities. The results showed that the average score of the experimental class (83.22) was higher than that of the control class (75.86). In addition, the percentage of students who achieved passing scores in the experimental class was higher (29 students) compared to the control class (23 students). The use of the PBL model also increased students' interest and participation in the learning process, as evidenced by the increasing percentage of students' activities during the learning sessions. Based on the t-test, the t-value obtained was 2.457, which is greater than the t-table value 2.001 at a significance level of 0.05, indicating a significant influence of the PBL model on students' learning outcomes.

Abstract

Kemajuan pembelajaran terlihat pada perolehan nilai keaktifan dan hasil belajar siswanya. Namun praktiknya, pembelajaran yang berlangsung kurang optimal. Metode pembelajaran biasanya berpusat pada guru dan monoton. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis model pembelajaran tipe jigsaw berbasis problem based learning untuk meningkatkan aktivitas dan hasil belajar. Penelitian berjenis classroom action research. Subjek penelitian siswa kelas X TPM berjumlah 22 orang. Pengumpulan data dengan observasi dan memberikan soal tes kepada siswa. Terdapat dua siklus dengan tiga pertemuan. Lembar observasi digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data perubahan keaktifan belajar peserta didik, dan lembar tes digunakan menilai hasil belajar. Teknik analisis yang digunakan yaitu kuantitatif dengan analisis persentase. Hasil Penelitian mengungkapkan aktivitas belajar meningkat dari 60,23% pada siklus I menjadi 81,25% pada siklus II. Hasil belajar terjadi peningkatan kesempurnaan klasikal. Pada siklus I ketuntasan klasikal sebesar 63,63 dengan jumlah 14 orang peserta didik, dan pada siklus II sebesar 81,81 dengan ketuntasan 18 orang peserta didik. Disimpulkan penggunaan model pembelajaran Jigsaw berbasis problem based learning dapat menaikkan aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa mata pelajaran Teknik Elemen Mesin Mekanik Kelas X TPM. Implikasi penelitian ini diharapkan model pembelajaran tipe Jigsaw basis Problem Based Learning dapat meningkatkan aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa.

Abstract

This article describes issue of mechanical worshop facilities and infrastructures at Vocational High School 1 Padang, aims to evaluate the availability and feasibility of facilities and infrastructure, in order to encourage learning process of mechanical engineering. This study reviews aspects related to the adequacy of mechanical workshop’s facilities and infrastructures including the existence and condition of machine, workshop space to other supporting infrastructure linked to work productivity and safety such as wall, lighting, ventilation, and floor conditions. Descriptive quantitative method was used with data collection techniques consisting of observation, interview with workshop managers, and documentation. The result revealed 87% of the facilities were classified as operational and available to support practical activities. Total percentage of feasibility for each workshop are: 90% of the lathe workshop, 77% of the miling machine workshop, 90% of the bench workshop, and 92 % of the welding and grinding machine workshop. The maximum percentage of facility feasibilities which is 100% has not been achieved, influenced by several factors related to the damage and unavailability of several items. In infrastructure, the ventilation is of standard size; lighting is appropriate and sufficient; the wall is of limited height and filled with large machines resulting in limited space for movement; the floor of the lathe workshop is inadequate with a number of cement patches on the floor cracks. Indicating the need for repairs and upgrades to increase the percentage of feasibility to maximum.
