Abstract

This study highlights the significance of integrating Moi community customary values into civic education to encourage students to develop a more tolerant mindset. This study uses a qualitative methodology to incorporate values such as solidarity, mutual respect, and togetherness into the learning process. According to the study's findings, including these values in the education of students not only enhances their capacity to exhibit tolerance towards others but also contributes to a greater sense of solidarity with other individuals and an increased sense of national pride. Furthermore, the incorporation of Moi traditions helps create an inclusive learning environment that equips students with the practical skills necessary to manage diversity. This study found that to successfully implement culture-based education to create a harmonious and pluralistic society, it is required to secure broader support from stakeholders, including educators, policymakers, and local communities.

Abstract

This study addresses a critical gap in the literature on cultivating participatory civic skills in higher education in the digital era. While the importance of such skills is widely acknowledged, little is known about how educators practically conceptualise and assess them. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, this research collected data through open-ended questionnaires completed by Civic Education lecturers from diverse higher education institutions across Indonesia. The data were analysed using reflective thematic analysis. The findings show that lecturers demonstrate a robust theoretical understanding of participatory civic skills; this conceptual grasp does not systematically translate into assessment practices that effectively measure participatory learning outcomes. Although pedagogical innovations such as project-based learning and digital platform integration are being adopted to create more authentic learning experiences, their implementation is hindered by structural barriers. These include excessive administrative workloads, inflexible curricula, and inadequate technological infrastructure. Theoretically, this study contributes by highlighting the critical disconnect between pedagogical theory and assessment praxis in civic education. In practice, it underscores that fostering participatory skills necessitates not only classroom-level innovation but also institutional reforms, specifically rationalising workloads, increasing curricular flexibility, and developing authentic assessment models tailored for digital-era civic learning.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the “Creative Hours” learning model centered on a learning cycle as a vehicle for cultivating the entrepreneurial spirit of students in an entrepreneurship-based school. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed at SMP Santa Ursula Bandung. Data were gathered through participant observation, in-depth interviews with the entrepreneurship team, accompanying teachers, and the principal, as well as documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the “Creative Hours” model rests on three components curriculum, process, and evaluation operationalized through five learning-cycle stages: exploring, planning, doing, communicating, and reflecting. Across these stages the school instills fifteen entrepreneurial values that can be grouped into self-regulation values, creative-innovative values, social-collaborative values, perseverance values, and honesty as a moral anchor. The model’s distinctiveness lies in a 60% weighting for character assessment that exceeds the weighting for knowledge and skills, the integration of the entrepreneurship curriculum with the school’s core values, and the presence of an authentic audience (parents) at the communication stage. The study concludes that a structured, character-oriented learning cycle functions effectively as a vehicle for cultivating entrepreneurial spirit and can serve as a reference model for developing entrepreneurship-based learning in other educational units.

Abstract

This article explores the strategic contributions of two Islamic-based youth organizations. Ansor Youth Movement and Muhammadiyah Youth are working to actualize the values of national defense and strengthen civic engagement amid contemporary socio-political challenges in Indonesia. The background of this study is rooted in the urgent need to revitalize the concept of national defense, which is no longer limited to militaristic dimensions but also involves the role of citizens in maintaining social integration, interfaith tolerance, and national unity. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method, conducted in Tangerang Regency, Banten Province. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis, then analyzed using data reduction, thematic categorization, and interpretive meaning analysis. The findings reveal that the actualization of national defense by both organizations is implemented through cadre education, leadership training, and public advocacy grounded in national and religious values. Their involvement in cross-identity social actions, collaboration with the government, and efforts to counter intolerance serve as tangible forms of active citizenship. Furthermore, the development of social capital through solidarity, norms of reciprocity, and trust networks has proven crucial in strengthening civic resilience and national security. This article recommends the enhancement of harmony between youth organizations, government institutions, and educational entities in constructing an inclusive, critical, and value-based model of citizenship.
