Abstract

Students’ motivation and creative thinking skills in Social Studies remain constrained by teacher-centred instruction and limited use of local contextual resources. This study examined whether product-differentiated Project-Based Learning (PjBL) anchored in the economic potential of the Kalimas River improves seventh-grade students’ learning motivation and creative thinking skills more effectively than Discovery Learning. A quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design involved two intact classes at a private junior high school in Surabaya: an experimental class receiving product-differentiated PjBL (n = 30) and a control class receiving Discovery Learning (n = 30). Data were collected using a validated motivation questionnaire based on Self-Determination Theory and an essay-based creative thinking test grounded in Munandar’s dimensions of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. After prerequisite tests were fulfilled, data were analysed using N-Gain and one-way MANOVA. MANOVA showed a significant simultaneous difference between groups, p < .001. The experimental class obtained higher gains in learning motivation (pre-test M = 68.5; post-test M = 86.4; N-Gain = 0.57) and creative thinking skills (pre-test M = 55.2; post-test M = 82.6; N-Gain = 0.61) than the control class (motivation N-Gain = 0.26; creative thinking N-Gain = 0.34). Product-differentiated PjBL grounded in the Kalimas local context is more effective than Discovery Learning in concurrently strengthening students’ motivation and creative thinking. The findings support contextual, autonomy-oriented PjBL as a practical strategy for fostering 21st-century competencies in Social Studies within the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Efforts to improve students' collaborative skills and learning achievement in Social Studies (IPS) require the integration of technology-based interactive learning media capable of creating a more active, participatory, and meaningful learning process. This study aimed to analyze the effect of using Educandy as an interactive learning medium on the collaborative skills and learning achievement of seventh-grade students at SMP Labschool UNESA 2. A quantitative approach employing a pretest-posttest control group design was adopted in this study. The research sample consisted of Class VII A as the experimental group, which received instruction using Educandy, and Class VII B as the control group, which was taught using PowerPoint as the instructional medium. Data were collected through achievement tests, questionnaires, and documentation. The data were analyzed using validity and reliability tests, normality, homogeneity, and linearity tests, simple linear regression analysis, an independent samples t-test, and the N-Gain test. The findings revealed that the use of Educandy had a positive and statistically significant effect on students' collaborative skills, with a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05) and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 32.6%. Furthermore, Educandy also demonstrated a positive and significant effect on students' learning achievement, with a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05) and an R² value of 52.9%. The N-Gain analysis indicated that the experimental group achieved a high level of improvement in learning achievement (71.15%), whereas the control group demonstrated a moderate level of improvement (55.77%). Students' responses toward the implementation of Educandy obtained an average score of 77.25%, which was categorized as good. These findings suggest that Educandy is an effective interactive learning medium for enhancing students' collaborative skills and learning achievement in Social Studies and has the potential to serve as an innovative instructional alternative that supports the implementation of twenty-first-century learning.

Abstract

Student activeness is an important component of Social Studies learning because students are expected not only to understand concepts, but also to ask questions, discuss, express opinions, and participate in learning activities. In class VII A, the outstanding class of SMP Asa Cendekia Sedati, student involvement was still uneven, particularly in asking questions, responding to questions, and expressing opinions. This study aimed to determine the effect of using Wordwall-based cardsort learning media on student activeness and to determine the magnitude of the effect. The study employed a quantitative approach with a one-shot case study design. The population and sample consisted of 28 students selected through saturated sampling. Data on the learning media variable were collected using a 25-item closed Likert-scale questionnaire, while student activeness data were obtained through an observation sheet. The questionnaire was valid and reliable, with a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.886. Data were analyzed using prerequisite tests and spline regression. The results showed that the spline regression model was significant, with an F value of 38.641 and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The R Square value of 0.756 indicates that Wordwall-based cardsort media explained 75.6% of the variation in student activeness, while the remaining 24.4% was explained by other factors. Observation results showed an average student activeness score of 90%, categorized as very good. Therefore, the use of Wordwall-based cardsort learning media had a significant and high contribution to student activeness in Social Studies learning.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum is a curriculum that provides freedom for teachers to choose various learning models to be applied in the classroom and can be adjusted to the learning needs and interests of the students. One of them is the Project Based Learning (PjBL)model. Project Based Learning (PjBL) is a learning activity in the form of creating products or services that are used as a means to master competencies. This study aims to improve student learning outcomes through a collaborative-based Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in learning Theme 3 Economic Potential of the Environment for seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Rengel. This research is a classroom action research conducted through two learning cycles. The subjects of this study are all students in class VII C, totaling 32 students. The variables in this study consist of the independent variable, which is the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model, and the dependent variable, which is the student learning outcomes. The data collection technique in this study uses a test technique. Data analysis techniques use simple statistical techniques in the form of percentages of student learning outcomes between the pre-cycle and after the cycle. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that learning using the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model can improve student learning outcomes. In cycle I, 17 students (53%) completed the cycle, and 15 students (47%) did not. In cycle II, 28 students (88%) completed the cycle, and 4 (12%) did not. Thus, after conducting cycle II, student learning outcomes increased by 35%.
