Abstract

cardiovascular disease and other metabolic disorders. High levels of C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) are commonly used to gauge cardiovascular risk, as elevated hs-CRP is linked with increased heart disease and chronic inflammation. This study examines how body fat percentage and nutritional status affect hs-CRP levels in individuals with hyperlipidemia. It involved 30 participants from a study at the SEAFAST Center IPB, where they were treated with high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory drinks for 4 weeks. Body fat percentage was measured via Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), nutritional status was evaluated through clinical assessments of weight and height, and hs-CRP levels were assessed using ELISA immunoassay. The Chi-square test revealed significant relationships between both body fat percentage (X²=0,043, p-value<0,05) and nutritional status (X² = 0,05, p-value<0,05) with hs-CRP levels. These results suggest that both body fat percentage and nutritional status significantly impact hs-CRP levels in individuals with hyperlipidemia. Effective management of body fat and nutritional status could help reduce inflammation and cardiovascular risk in this population. This study supports the need for targeted interventions to better manage cardiovascular health in individuals with hyperlipidemia.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the effects of moderate and high exercise intensity on VO2max, body mass index (BMI), and percent of body fat in obese adolescents. Thirty obese adolescents were randomly assigned to control, moderate intensity training (MIT), and high intensity interval training (HIIT) groups. The MIT and HIIT groups exercised by using treadmill for 40 minutes, three times per week during six weeks of intervention. Exercise on the subject of MIT and HIIT groups began with a five minute warm up by running on treadmill at 50-55% HRmax. After warming up, the MIT group ran for 30 minutes at 65-70% HRmax. Meanwhile, HIIT group should run for two minutes at 90-95% HRmax with one minute active recovery at 55% HRmax between each interval for a total of 30 minutes. Exercise ended with five minutes of cooling down at 50-55% HRmax. The results showed that HIIT group significantly had higher VO2max than MIT group (p<0.05). A signification reduction in body mass index and percent of body fat was observed for MIT and HIIT groups in comparison to the control group after the intervention (p<0.05). In conclusion, HIIT over six weeks increased VO2max higher than MIT. HIIT and MIT are equally effective in reducing BMI and percent of body fat in obese adolescents. Keywords: exercise intensity, nutritional status, percent of body fat, VO2max

Abstract

This research was aimed to identify the obesity risk factors in adults aged 25-65 years old in 2011-2014. The study used secondary data from “Cohort study on risk factors of non-communicable diseases” that was collected for two years in 2011-2013 and 2012-2014. The research was designed as a prospective cohort study. The number of subjects was 1006, consisted of 364 men and 642 women. Results showed a 25% prevalence of obese (BMI≥25 kg/m2). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed the risk factors of obesity in adults aged 25-65 years old were gender, smoking habit, consumption of fatty foods, and duration of smoking habit. During the two years of observation, obesity developed faster in female subjects compared to male subjects, after adjusted to smoking habit, fat intake, and interaction between smoking habit and time. The risk of obesity in adults can be reduced by not starting smoking at early age and reducing consumption of fatty foods.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyse the risk factors of hypertension among adult in rural Indonesia. This cross-sectional study included 112 married couples (112 men and 112 women) aged 45-59 years old and was conducted in Cianjur District, West Java, Indonesia. The measurement of body weight and fat composition used Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) monitor (OMRON® Karada Scan Body Composition Monitor HBF-358-BW). Body height was measured by stadiometer, meanwhile waist circumference was measured by measuring tape. Data on the blood pressure measured by an automatic blood pressure monitor (OMRON® Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor Model HEM-7200). All measurement were done twice in repetition. Chi-square was used to analysed the association between variables and logistic regression was used to analyse the risk factors. The prevalence of hypertension was 49.1% (women 54.5%; men 43.7%). Women had a higher proportion of overweight, obesity, abdominal obesity, and hypertension stage 2 than men. BMI (p<0.05), waist circumference (p<0.05), total body fat (p<0.05), and visceral fat (p<0.05) were significantly higher in hypertension subject than not hypertension. Nonetheless, only waist circumference became the risk factor for hypertension (OR=4.005; 95%CI:1.47-10.914 for high risk). There is high prevalence of hypertension among adult in rural area. Adult, particularly women need to pay attention on their body fat to reduce the risk of hypertension.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyse nutritional status, physical activity, and sedentary activity in school children in West Java, Indonesia. The study used a cross-sectional design and was conducted from October to December 2016. Samples were taken using simple random sampling technique with a total sample of 300 subjects taken among fifth-grade students in seven elementary schools located in Bandung city, West Java. The data collected in this research were anthropometric data such as physical activity and sedentary activity. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson test. The results showed that 21.7% of school children were overweight, while 19.7% were obese. The results of the subject activity, based on nutritional status category, were not significantly different. All subjects with underweight nutritional status were having light activity (100%), the percentage of subjects with normal nutritional status, overweight, and obese were 71.6%, 75.4%, and 74.6%, respectively. The average duration of underweight subjects performing sedentary activities on holidays was 4.2±3.0 hours, 5.4±2.7 hours for normal subjects, 5.8±2.7 hours for overweight, and 5.4±2.5 hours for obese subjects. The proportion of sedentary activity time on holiday among underweight, normal, overweight, and obese subjects were 17.6±12.4%; 22.3±11%; 24.1±11.3%; and 22.3±10.5%. The sedentary activity of children on holiday was not significantly different, but there was a significant difference between the proportion of sedentary time in a day between groups of nutritional status (p<0.05), i.e., normal children and overweight children. The correlation test results indicated a negative correlation between physical activity and sedentary activity, meaning that higher sedentary activity of subjects both in school time and holiday resulted in lower physical activity (p<0.01). The nutritional status, physical activity, and subject sedentary activity based on nutritional status were not significantly different.
