Abstract

Doa etymologically means request something to God in certain ways. while some ulama define doa is a self statement presence to Allah the Almighty about our weakness, shortages, inabilities, and disgraces, then we ask Allah the Almighty in order the weaknesses, shortages, inabilities, and humiliations are removed and replaced with the strengths, capabilities and a high degree both in human sight and in Allah sight. In the theory needs said, that basically human beings need to feel safe (safety need), and the safety need leads to the two forms, namely: safety needs of life and safety needs of the property. Safety needs emerged as the most important requirement if psychology needs have been fullfilled. this behavior as reflected in the lives of Javanese who always do doa  in the form of slametan ceremony. Slametan aims to achieve slamet (safety), namely a condition in which the events will move smoothly to follow a predetermined path and will not happen misfortunes to just anyone.

Abstract

Traditional language teaching methods in pesantren, which heavily emphasize grammar and translation, are often ineffective in developing real-world communication skills. The communicative approach offers an alternative by focusing on language use in practical, social contexts to build students' communicative competence, including discourse competence, sociolinguistic abilities, grammatical knowledge, and strategic competence. The aim of this study is to explain the model of a communicative approach on language teaching for speaking skill according to Finocchiaro and Brumfits theory, and to explain procedures that can be applied to students to improve students' language skills. This study uses a qualitative research method with a literature study approach. The results show that communicative approach emphasizes the importance of the ability to communicate effectively in the target language, where learners not only understand the rules of the language theoretically, but can also use the language in real-life situations. Communicative approach is related to students of pesantren who learn a second language, especially Arabic language for their daily activity and its done and can be implemented based on pesantren needs. Thus, the procedures for learning communicative language developed by Finochairo and Brumfit is suitable for a beginner language learning, especially students in pesantren.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' needs for interactive multimedia-based Arabic teaching materials in grade 8 State Islamic Junior High School (MTsN) 17 Tanah Datar, West Sumatra. Arabic language learning uses textbooks that are still textual and monotonous without any accompanying teaching materials that are interesting and interactive. The approach used was a mixed method, data was collected from 36 students and teachers through interviews, classroom observations, and needs analysis questionnaires. The results of the interviews show that learning Arabic still faces obstacles in the form of conventional and less interesting teaching materials, exercises that have not touched listening and speaking skills, and limited access because it is only available in print form without the support of interactive technology. Observation data shows that Arabic learning is still dominated by teachers with lecture methods, students tend to be passive, interaction and language skills practice are minimal, and only rely on textbooks without media or supporting teaching materials. The results of the questionnaire showed that the majority of respondents (84.65%) strongly supported the development of Arabic teaching materials based on interactive multimedia. This study recommends developing interactive multimedia-based Arabic teaching materials that combine text, audio, video, animation, and self-directed exercises, specifically designed based on students’ real needs to support more engaging and interactive learning. As a practical implication, a prototype or unit template is proposed that integrates short texts, audio narration, micro-videos, and self-checking quizzes for the next stage of development.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the cognitive construction of critical thinking in the argumentative writing of students in the Arabic Language Education Department (PBA) at UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu. Using a qualitative approach, the data consisted of units of ideas within sentences, paragraphs, and texts derived from students’ argumentative essays collected through writing assignments in the insya’ course. Data analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s model: data reduction, data display, verification, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the cognitive construction of critical thinking comprises four dimensions: interpretation, analysis, inference, and evaluation. Interpretation involves perspective and definition formation; analysis includes argument components and structure; inference consists of deductive and inductive reasoning; and evaluation covers argument accuracy and logical validity. These findings contribute to the development of argumentative writing instruction by mapping how critical thinking emerges in students’ texts.

Abstract

Providing fast, accurate, and accessible Arabic language learning in Islamic educational institutions—both formal and informal—is still a challenge. Many teaching strategies rely on limited resources, making Arabic seem hard to learn and lacking professionalism. This study explores the theories used in innovating teaching strategies and evaluates the outcomes of these innovations based on doctoral dissertations for elementary, secondary, and higher education levels. The research uses a qualitative approach with library research methods, focusing on dissertations from the Doctoral Program in Arabic Language Education (2012–2022). The main data include the theories that guided the innovations and the results achieved, while secondary data consist of curricula, syllabi, and teaching modules. Data collection methods include documentation, observation, interviews, and analysis techniques such as data reduction, categorization, triangulation, and drawing conclusions. Findings indicate that innovations in Arabic teaching strategies are built on theories such as Multiple Intelligences, Robert Mill Gagné’s Micro Strategies, Contextual Teaching, Constructivism (PJBL), HOTs, SIOP, and 4Cs. Innovative strategies include: (1) adapting learning objectives to match the applied theories, (2) creating teaching materials aligned with these objectives, (3) combining traditional and modern teaching methods, (4) integrating conventional media with digital platforms, and (5) using diverse evaluation methods, including authentic, portfolio-based, formative, and summative assessments.
