Abstract

The rapid development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in the era of Industry 4.0 has accelerated its integration into education, including Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). Despite its potential benefits, teachers’ readiness to integrate GenAI remains questionable. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the readiness of junior high school English teachers in Buleleng District in using GenAI. This research applied an explanatory sequential mixed-method design, beginning with a survey adapted from the Readiness for Artificial Intelligence Applications Scale (RAIS), followed by in-depth interviews to elaborate on the quantitative findings. The results indicate that teachers tended to be ready to use GenAI, particularly in terms of technological self-efficacy and instructional use. However, regarding ethical awareness, many teachers were still unclear about appropriate ethical principles and boundaries in using AI. These findings highlight the need to strengthen ethical literacy and provide continuous professional development to ensure responsible GenAI integration in classrooms.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the urgency of implementing the Learning Factory (LF) model in developing soft skills and scientific creativity in prospective science teachers at the Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Applied Sciences (FSTT) of Mandalika University of Education. This study also aims to identify the gap between the competencies acquired during education and the needs of the world of work in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Method: This study uses a survey approach through a tracer study involving alumni of the Physics Education, Chemistry Education, Biology Education, and Mathematics Education study programs at FSTT Undikma. Data were collected through questionnaires to determine the relevance of graduates' competencies to the needs of the world of work, then analyzed descriptively. Results: The results showed that most alumni were able to find employment relatively quickly after graduation. However, some alumni felt that the jobs they obtained were not fully in line with their field of study. This indicates a gap between higher education competencies and the needs of the world of work. The Learning Factory model, which is based on project-based learning and industrial experience, has the potential to improve technical skills while strengthening students' collaboration, communication, and innovation abilities. Novelty: This study highlights the importance of integrating the Learning Factory model with the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach to improve graduate employability through the development of more holistic competencies that are relevant to the needs of the world of work.

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the readiness of EFL students across different grade levels to utilize ChatGPT as a supportive tool in English language learning, based on the RAIS framework, in response to the lack of empirical investigation into students’ preparedness in terms of technology self-efficacy, student interaction, and ethical awareness as a foundation for effective and responsible AI integration in secondary education. This study aimed to investigate the readiness of EFL students to use ChatGPT in English learning at one of the publics Senior High Schools in North Bali. This research employed a quantitative survey method, in which data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using statistical techniques. The population of this study consisted of EFL students at One of the publics Senior High Schools in North Bali, with samples drawn from students in grades 10, 11, and 12. The results of the study revealed that (1) The overall level of readiness of EFL students at One of the publics Senior High Schools in North Bali to use ChatGPT in English learning was high. These findings indicate that students are capable of accessing and utilizing artificial intelligence-based technology and possess adequate attitudes, self-confidence, and ethical awareness to integrate ChatGPT into their English learning process. (2) Differences in readiness levels among EFL students in grades 10, 11, and 12 at One of the publics Senior High Schools in North Bali showed no statistically significant differences. This finding indicates that readiness to use ChatGPT as a supporting tool for English learning is relatively uniform across grade levels, suggesting that contextual and pedagogical factors, such as consistent curriculum, institutional support, and exposure to technology-integrated learning, play a more critical role than grade level or academic progression in shaping students’ technology readiness. Future researchers are recommended to expand the scope of the study by involving multiple institutions, employing mixed-method approaches, and examining the relationship between students’ AI readiness and actual English learning outcomes to provide a more comprehensive understanding of effective ChatGPT integration in secondary education.

Abstract

This study explores the perceptions, pedagogical challenges, and integration strategies of teachers and students regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in English language classrooms within a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) context. Employing a case study design with a phenomenological lens, this research aims to uncover how AI-based tools are received and interpreted amidst the daily learning experiences of a single pesantren. Data are collected through semi-structured interviews and reflective observations, while acknowledging the researcher’s dual positionality as both an insider and observer to ensure a nuanced interpretation of the findings. The study focuses on both the pedagogical benefits and the cultural tensions between technological innovation and traditional religious values. The findings are expected to offer a framework for culturally responsive AI integration in language education, specifically contributing to the discourse of digital literacy within Islamic educational settings

Abstract

The development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has transformed assessment practices in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning, particularly through the emergence of AI humanification, where the boundaries between authentic student writing and AI-generated text become increasingly blurred. This study aims to analyze secondary school English teachers’ readiness in addressing these challenges. This research employed a sequential explanatory mixed-method design involving 23 EFL teachers from nine senior high schools in Buleleng Regency, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a modified Readiness Artificial Intelligence Scale (RAIS) questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal a structural imbalance in teacher readiness. While teachers demonstrate high levels of technological self-efficacy in using AI, their ability to detect AI misuse and verify student authenticity remains limited. Teachers adopt adaptive strategies such as restricting device use, implementing oral verification, and repositioning AI as a supportive tool rather than a substitute. These findings imply that teacher readiness is multidimensional and develops unevenly, highlighting the need for assessment redesign, ethical governance, and institutional support to maintain academic integrity in AI-mediated learning environments.

Abstract

Integrity and civic responsibility are two crucial elements in the life of a nation and state. Both are widely believed to be developed through processes of awareness and education. Accordingly, this study aims to identify the role of educational philosophy, as a framework for cultivating awareness, and civic education in strengthening students’ integrity and civic responsibility. This research employed a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, involving 22 respondents consisting of students, teachers, and school principals. The study began with the collection of quantitative data using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire to identify the perceptions of students, teachers, and school principals regarding the role of educational philosophy and civic education in strengthening students’ integrity and civic responsibility. The collected data were quantified and analyzed quantitatively by calculating percentages and mean scores. Subsequently, qualitative data were gathered through interviews to confirm and elaborate on the previously obtained quantitative findings. The interview data were analyzed qualitatively using an interactive analysis model. The findings indicate that, in general, students, teachers, and school principals hold positive perceptions of the role of educational philosophy and civic education in strengthening students’ integrity and civic responsibility. This is reflected in the mean scores obtained from the questionnaire results, which show positive responses from students (4.52), teachers (4.57), and school principals (4.95). Furthermore, the qualitative findings support and reinforce the quantitative results. Therefore, it can be concluded that educational philosophy and civic education play a significant role in strengthening students’ integrity and civic responsibility.

Abstract

Digital storytelling has the potential to strengthen English literacy in EFL elementary classrooms by fostering meaningful student engagement. This study explores upper-grade elementary students’ perceptions of digital storytelling through cognitive, affective, and behavioral engagement, as well as teachers’ pedagogical challenges in its implementation. Using an interpretative phenomenological case study design, the study involved 21 students from Grades 4–6 and three English teachers at a public elementary school in North Bali, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. The findings indicate that students perceived digital storytelling positively, showing developmental progression from basic linguistic understanding to higher-order engagement, increased motivation, active participation, and emerging learning transfer. Digital storytelling was perceived to support vocabulary learning, comprehension, and collaboration through multimodal learning experiences. However, teachers encountered pedagogical challenges related to content selection, preparation time, learner diversity, technological constraints, and classroom management. Despite these challenges, teachers demonstrated adaptive practices through scaffolding, peer tutoring, collaborative planning, and flexible use of digital resources. The study highlights the importance of teachers’ adaptive pedagogy in optimizing digital storytelling for English literacy development.
