Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the potential of tomato extract (Lycopersicum esculentum L.) in increasing the Sertoli and spermatogenic cells count of the contralateral testis in white rats (Rattus novergicus) with unilateral torsion. A total of 24 male Wistar white rats, aged 3-4 months old with a weight of 180-200 g were used in this study. The rat samples were randomly divided into 4 treatment groups: Group 1 as a negative control (NC) which consisted of rats without testicular torsion and given tomato extract; Group 2 as a positive control (PC) which consisted of rats with unilateral testicular torsion 720 for 6 hours without given tomato extract; Group 3 as treatment 1 (T1) consisted of rats that were subjected to unilateral testicular torsion 720o for 6 hours and were given tomato extract at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW/day; and Group 4 as treatment 2 (T2) consisted of rats that were subjected to unilateral testicular torsion 720 for 6 hours and were given tomato extract at a dose of 200 mg/kg BW/day. Each group consisted of six rats. Tomato extract was administered orally for 30 days. The observations of the number of Sertoli cells and spermatogenic cells (spermatogonia cells, spermatocytes, and spermatids) were carried out histologically with Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) staining and the slides were examined with a light microscope. The data obtained was analyzed by ANOVA and continued with Duncan's test. The results showed that the administration of tomato extract significantly increased (P0.05) the number of Sertoli cells and spermatogenic cells of the contralateral testicular seminiferous tubule. Giving tomato extract 100 mg/kg BW/day resulted in an increase in the number of Sertoli cells and better spermatogenic cells than tomato extract 200 mg/kg BW/day. In conclusion the administration of tomato extract after detorsion can increase the number of Sertoli cells and spermatogenic cells of the contralateral testicular seminiferous tubules in white rats subjected to unilateral torsion of 720 for 6 hours

Abstract

The research has been done to know prevalence of toxoplasmosis in livestock, to search the source of infection that have potency to cause toxoplasmosis in human and to make a map of toxoplasmosis infection area in Banda Aceh. The method used in this research was serologic test, Card Aglutination Test (CATT). Data of fertile women in this study are collected through questioner. The result of this research showed that the toxoplasmosis prevalency number of society in Banda Aceh was 3.15%, while at livestock were varied respectively: goats 40%, chickens 25%, cattles 23%, duck 20%, cats 16%, buffalos 15%, and sheeps 10%. The potencial sources of to coures toxoplasmosis in human are: goat, chicken, cattle, duck, cat, buffalo, and sheep. The area found toxoplasmosis in humans and animal were: Baiturrahman, Kuta Raja, Ulee Kareng, Kuta Alam, and Syiah Kuala. Model toxoplasmosis infection patterns in human related to livestock and animal in Banda Acheh are : Y ( POSTOKSO) - 1,55688 + 2,65280 AYA + 1,17709 JDG + 4,28482 KUC - 3,74609 MEM

Abstract

The aimed of this research is inventoried the parasites of carp in floating cage net at Laut TawarLake. This study used 100 fishes consisted of 50 fries and 50 reproductive stadia. The result of thisresearch indicates the parasites found in the fishes are Trichodina sp., Ichtyophthirius multifiliis,Dactylogyrus sp., Gyrodactylus sp., Epistylis sp. and Lernaea sp. Protozoan parasites were found in allfishes and infected fish organs, while metazoan parasites infected fins and gills and copepods only infectedskin. Keywords: parasites, carps, floating cage net, Laut Tawar Lake

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of egg laying behavior on containers on the density of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquito larvae in Gampong Kopelma Darussalam, Syiah Kuala District. Sampling was conducted using a simple random sampling technique by surveying larvae in containers from 100 houses. This was followed by the identification of mosquito larval species, and the data were analyzed using entomological indices and Chi-Square tests. Based on the calculation of the entomological index in Gampong Kopelma Darussalam, Syiah Kuala District obtained the values of the House Index, Container Index, and Breteau Index for containers outside the house are 15%, 28.3%, and 17% and the values of House Index, Container Index and Breteau Index for containers in the house are 26%, 13.1%, and 29% so that it can be categorized that the density of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquito larvae in Gampong Kopelma Darussalam, Syiah Kuala District is moderate. The results showed that Aedes aegypti was found to be more than 85.1% compared to Aedes albopictus 14.9%. The analysis results showed a relationship between the type, location, material, size, and color of the container with the presence of Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae in contrast to Aedes albopictus mosquito larvae which showed a relationship with the type, location, and material of the container. The results indicated that Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae were predominantly found in containers inside the house, whereas Aedes albopictus mosquito larvae were more frequently found in containers outside the house.

Abstract

Freshwater snails (Faunus ater) live in shallow, muddy, and sandy waters and obtain their food through a filter-feeding mechanism. These conditions make freshwater snails potentially exposed to various contaminants within their bodies, such as heavy metals and bacteria. This study aims to identify the presence of Shigella sp. in Faunus ater using 16S rRNA gene analysis. The research method was conducted through observational and laboratory exploration using a modified Carter method and 16S rRNA gene analysis. Phenotypic observations showed bacterial growth in Brain Heart Infusion Broth (BHIB) media, producing clear, round-shaped colonies on Salmonella Shigella Agar (SSA) media, and were classified as Gram-negative, short rod-shaped bacteria. The 16S rRNA gene analysis results showed that the isolate had a 98.35% similarity to Shigella flexneri strain FDAARGOS_692. It can be concluded that the molecular analysis of the 16S rRNA gene of the bacterial isolate from the freshwater snail indicates that the bacteria belong to the genus Shigella and are similar to Shigella flexneri strain FDAARGOS_692.
