Abstract

This study describes the use of stylistics in the novel Negeri Para Bedebah by Tere Liye. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data collection method used in this study is the documentation method using an interactive model that applies four stages, including: data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, and reviewing. The selected data are data that can be analyzed based on figure of speech, the use of diction, and morphological aspects. The results of this study are to describe the data relating to: (1) the use of language style based on figure of speech and its function, namely: 1) repetition; 2) comparative language style; 3) contradictory language style; 4) linking language style; (2) The use of language style based on the use of diction and its function; (3) The use of language style based on morphological aspects and their function, which consists of affixation, reduplication, and compounding.

Abstract

Linguistic Landscape (LL) is a study that focuses on the use of language in public spaces, whether monolingual, bilingual, or multilingual. The growth of coffee shops in the city of Medan is increasing due to the increasing development of coffee consumption so that it appears around the Ringroad road which reflects its uniqueness and various different racial backgrounds.This research deals with the linguistic landscape and the use of certain languages on coffee shop signage. The purpose of this study was to determine the use of language in language in public spaces, to explain the characteristics used on coffee shop signboards and the reasons why shop owners chose a particular language in naming coffee shops. This research method is qualitative by applying the data collection of coffee shop signage. Methods of data collection is done by observation, interviews, documentation. Methods of data analysis with data collection, data condensation, data display and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the researchers found 12 languages, namely: Acehnese, Batak, and Javanese, Indonesian, English, Japanese, Italian, Arabic, French, Vietnamese, Spanish, and Bugis languages. It was found that the language between English and Indonesian is more dominant than other languages. The characteristics on the 89 nameplates tend to be the same. The reasons for shop owners in choosing a particular name are the type of coffee, culture, place/location, easy to remember and simple, family, reference, social time, ownership, promotion, personal, hope, leadership, heredity, recklessness, uniqueness, love of coffee, art, products, regional specialties, fondness for foreign languages. Language in public spaces and the phenomenon of language is of great interest to researchers, especially linguists.

Abstract

This study purpose is to finding the sign based on theory pioneered by Charles Sanders Peirce. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The method of this study based on the theory of Creswell, that consist of five steps; (1) collected the data; (2) categorize the data; (3) coding the data; (4) the chronological of the data; (5) analyzing the data. The source of the data is Avengers’ Movie Infinity War and End Game that taken from YouTube channel of Marvel Entertainment that downloaded by savefromnet.com. The data is collected by document analysis. The data is the screenshot of the scene in the trailer. This research consists of visual and verbal data which used semiotic icon, index and symbol. In fiction movie, visual data is generally found. The finding of the research is (25) data. Visual data consists of (20) and verbal data consist of (5). One data consist of several semiotic sign. Icon is consisting of (12), Index is consisting of (3), and symbol is consisting of (9). Icon is the dominant element both the trailers. Fiction movie is not interesting without visual effect. But in this case movie trailer also supported by something real, such as the properties and setting for the good quality of the movie.

Abstract

This article discusses the Linguistic features found in the text description and explanation of the events or cultural activities of Aceh in the city of Langsa. The purpose of this research is to examine the realization of textual features in the text description and explanation. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative, qualitative research is a research procedure that produces descriptive data in the form of words written or spoken from people or behaviors that can be observed '. The data of this study are linguistic units in the form of clauses derived from 10 written texts of genre description and explanation by fifth semester students, English Education Study Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training at Samudra Langsa University. The analysis is carried out based on the functional systemic linguistic theory (LSF) framework, with the analytical construct formulated. The findings of this study are complex theme types, including markers such as: and, and then, when, becouse, cause, after that, before that, if, so, while, that and next. These markers function as conjunctions, connectors and successors. Of all these markers, contained in the text, only the "and then" markers are the most dominant markers.

Abstract

Nowadays, the usage of stickers especially in LINE Messenger is very popular, especially among teenagers. In spite of that, misunderstanding is still happen often. The reasons for choosing LINE stickers are that they are full-sized and expressive so many users can face a misunderstanding while using it. Also LINE provides a wide range of kind of stickers, and that it is very important for users to understand the meaning of each sticker to avoid misunderstanding. This study aims to identify the elements of visual and verbal signs contained in LINE messenger. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The data used in this study is 20 visual (stickers) and verbal (texts), in which sticker is the main data meanwhile text is used as supporting data. The source of the data in this study is LINE Messenger. The data was then analyzed by using semiotic theory with a trichotomy model proposed by Charles Sanders Peirce. The results of the analysis show that every sticker contains qualisign aspects such as colors, gestures, etc., but not every meaning contain in the sticker is affected by their quality. It is also shown that every sticker is replica, but it still refers to the law. Every sticker must also share at least one similar characteristic or icon with the object they represents and the sticker used must base on the topic which occurred. The symbol is in the form of key word which makes it easier for the user to choose the sticker variations. Rheme and dicent show that meaning can be derived from the elements contain in the stickers. The differences are rheme contain qualisign and icon, meanwhile dicent only contain secondness aspects. Argument shows that meaning can be derived from hypotheses, standards in society, or even the sign itself. Keywords: LINE messenger, Sign, Visual, Sticker

Abstract

This research is to examine the use of Mood and Speech Function in Donald Trump's speech in response coronavirus pandemic. The rise of the coronavirus pandemic that occurred in almost all parts of the world in December 2019 - 2020 which has not yet ended, made America the largest country affected by the coronavirus pandemic after Italy. This thing has made Donald Trump speaking out in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus in America. The analysis of this research based on Eggins (2004:14) which includes Realization of Speech Function in mood system. This paper concerns on the analysis of Mood and Speech Function in Donald Trump’s speech in response coronavirus pandemic. This uses descriptive research method, in which the data are described systematically to get an accurate and factual result. The data used in this study are the clauses containing of grammatical mood and speech function used by Donald Trump’s speech. The finding describes that as a president want to give his response to the spread of this global pandemic. Where the response is in the form of information and opinions carried out in preventing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic to the citizens of America. It also to analyze how the mood and speech function realized in Donald Trump’s speech.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang perilaku bentuk nirverbal guru dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Lokasi penelitian ini di SMA Negeri 1 Kutalimbaru, Kabupaten Deliserdang. Teori yang digunakan adalah Multimodal oleh Kress dan Leeuwen. Objek penelitian ini adalah guru  yang mengampu mata pelajaran Kimia. Dalam pengumpulan data digunakan data nirverbal berupa gambar, dibantu dengan teknik rekam, dengan metode simak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perilaku bentuk nirverbal yang digunakan guru di SMA N 1 Kutalimbaru ada tiga, yaitu  bentuk fasial, postural, gestural. Berdasarkan data yang telah dianalisis, diketahui bahwa perilaku bentuk nirverbal yang digunakan oleh guru dalam kegiatan pembelajaran di SMA N 1 Kutalimbaru Kabupaten Deliserdang adalah bentuk fasial, gestural dan postural dan diketahui bahwa penggunaan komunikasi nirverbal sangat rendah dibandingkan penggunaan komunikasi verbal, yang disebabkan oleh kurangnya penguasaan materi bahan ajar oleh guru, sehingga kegiatan pembelajaran berkesan kaku, dan membosankan. Katakunci : multimodal, gestur, guru, pembelajaranPenelitian ini membahas tentang perilaku bentuk nirverbal guru dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Abstract

Habiburahman El Shirazy memberikan gambaran atas situasi sosial yang mempresentasikan ideologi kebudayaan bangsa dan agamanya melalui sebuah novel. Adapun penelitian ini  bertujuan untuk struktur mikro yang terdapat pada novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2 karya Habiburahman El Shirazy. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Analisis Wacana Kritis van Dijk. Jenis penelitian ini termasuk ke dalam jenis penelitian analisis isi. Data pada penelitian ini adalah novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2 karya Habiburahman El Shirazy. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara mencatat dokumen. Setelah data terkumpul, kemudian data dianalisis dengan  menggunakan model interaktif Miles, Hubberman dan Saldana. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa pada level struktur mikro, Habiburahman El Shirazy, menyelipkan ideologi melalui pilihan- pilihan kata untuk menyampaikan pesan-pesan Islami.  Kata Kunci : Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2, Struktur Mikro. Abstract

Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan tanda pada meme dalam akun Instagram Dubbing Jawa Official. Akun ini menampilkan meme game online (permainan daring) khususnya PUBG dalam bahasa Jawa. Teori Pierce digunakan untuk menganalisis tanda meme yang memfokuskan pada komponen objek. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Data terdiri non verbal berupa potongan gambar pada video dan teks verbal yang disampaikan dalam bahasa Jawa. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini mengacu pada konsep Miles, Huberman dan Saldana (2014; 31-33) yaitu model analisis interaktif yang mengklasifikasi analisis data dalam tiga langkah : (i) kondensasi data, yaitu suatu proses memilih, menyederhanakan, mengabstrakan, dan atau mentransformasi data; (ii) penyajian data, yaitu sebuah pengorganisasian, pernyatuan dari informasi yang memungkinkan penyimpulan aksi; dan (iii) Penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan  bahwa ikon, dan indeks sebagai penanda visual dapat menggambarkan dasar pesan yang ingin disambaikan oleh kreator. Selanjutnya simbol berupa perpaduan penanda visual dan verbal untuk menangkap ketiga pesan video meme tersebut. Video meme yang dibuat merupakan kritik sosial terhadap dampak negatif permainan PUBG terhadap hubungan sosial di masyarakat, yaitu hubungan asmara, hubungan dalam berumah tangga, serta hubungan antara orang tua dan anak. Hubungan secara umum jika dikaitkan dengan kebudayaan Jawa permainan tersebut berakibat pengirisan nilai-nilai kesopanan serta aturan dalam membangun sebuah hubungan di masyarakat Jawa. Kata kunci : Ikon, Indeks, simbol, meme, game online

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis bentuk atau pola interaksi guru dan siswa pada level struktur mikro, struktur makro dan superstruktur, serta menganalisis konteks sosial yang merealisasikan interaksi guru dan siswa dalam proses belajar mengajar di SMA Negeri 1 Medan. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kualitatif yang dilakukan di SMA Negeri 1 Medan. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah teks berupa unit linguistik dalam bentuk kata, frasa, klausa dan kalimat yang diperoleh dari ujaran guru yang telah di transkripsikan oleh peneliti dengan menggunakan teknik catat. peneliti menggunakan 3 metode pengumpulan data yaitu metode observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis model interaktif. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa bentuk atau pola interaksi guru dan siswa pada level struktur mikro bahwa kelas kata yang paling sering digunakan oleh guru di SMA Negeri 1 Kota Medan adalah kelas kata nomina yang muncul sebanyak 38 %. Pada level struktur makro dalam proses belajar mengajar di SMA Negeri 1 Medan terdiri dari 7 topik, yaitu (1) greetings (salam pembuka), (2) absensi (3) mengulang pelajaran minggu lalu (4) melanjutkan pelajaran yang baru (5) Analisis topik Presentasi (6) motivasi (7) menyimpulkan materi. Sebagai referensi tambahan dan pembelajaran dalam proses peningkatan kualitas seorang guru atau pun calon guru sebagai pengajar yaitu dengan memperhatikan bagaimana interaksi yang baik dalam mengajar di dalam kelas yang dapat menciptakan suasana kondusif dan terjadinya kerja sama yang baik antara guru dengan siswa.
