Abstract

HIV AIDS cases continue to increase every year. In 2023, out of 1,414 HIV AIDS cases in North Kalimantan, Indonesia, 500 cases were in Tarakan region. This study aimed to reveal the situation of the extent of efforts of commercial sex workers (CSWs) in preventing HIV AIDS transmission in coastal and border areas of Tarakan. This research was qualitative with a descriptive phenomenological approach. This study involved 15 CSWs in the localization of Tarakan area as the participants. The data analysis used thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke. This study produced four themes, namely: (1) health checks were carried out on an irregular basis, (2) customers who refused to use condoms were still served, (3) the use of antibiotics to prevent HIV AIDS transmission, and (4) limiting customers. The prevention of HIV AIDS transmission by CSWs had not been maximized due to the limitations of economic background and negotiation skills and a lack of understanding of HIV AIDS. A more comprehensive educational approach was needed to raise awareness of the importance of self-prevention from infectious diseases to work, so that they can work for a long time.

Abstract

BACKGROUNDTransradial access (TRA) coronary catheterization is widely used for coronary artery disease (CAD) management. However, complications such as pain, hematoma, and radial artery occlusion (RAO) often occur due to prolonged use of radial compression bands. Early deflation protocols have been proposed to minimize these complications while maintaining effective hemostasis. This systematic review evaluates the impact of early radial band deflation protocols on reducing TRA-related complications. METHODSA systematic literature search was conducted in ProQuest, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Sage Journal, and Scopus databases, including studies published between 2018 and March 2024. Inclusion criteria focused on randomized controlled trials (RCTs), cohort studies, and quasi-experimental studies evaluating radial band deflation protocols in TRA coronary catheterization patients. Outcomes included pain, hematoma, and RAO. Twelve studies were critically appraised using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) tools and synthesized using narrative and quantitative approaches. RESULTSThe review included eight RCTs, three cohort studies, and one quasi-experimental study involving a total of 4,477 patients. Findings revealed that early radial band deflation (1.5–2 hours) reduced pain and hematoma incidence compared to prolonged durations (>4 hours). RAO rates were significantly lower with gradual and early deflation protocols. However, shorter durations (<1.5 hours) slightly increased bleeding risk. Evidence supported the TR Band® Light Protocol as an effective and safe deflation strategy. CONCLUSIONEarly radial band deflation protocols effectively reduce TRA-related complications, enhancing patient comfort and safety. Standardized deflation protocols and further research, including innovative technologies, are recommended to optimize post-TRA care.

Abstract

Background: One of the challenges of the Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DRTB) control program in Indonesia is the significantly increasing incidence of treatment discontinuation. One of the factors that influences the low level of treatment compliance in patients with DRTB is mental health. Health counseling is a psychological intervention that can overcome mental health problems and help improve treatment compliance in patients with DRTB. Purpose: To provide an overview of whether health counseling interventions are effective in improving treatment compliance in patients with DRTB. Method: A systematic review was conducted through a search strategy on 4 databases, namely PubMed, ProQuest, Cochrane, ScienceDirect with a total of 4,832 articles obtained. The articles were then filtered based on inclusion and exclusion criteria until 6 articles remained. A total of 6 articles that met the criteria were then subjected to critical appraisal with the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist guidelines. Results: In general, this systematic review shows that health counseling interventions can effectively improve treatment compliance in patients with DRTB. Conclusion: This review identified that counseling combined with education has been shown to be effective in improving medication adherence in pulmonary TB patients. However, there are still few studies that use counseling as an intervention to improve medication adherence specifically for pulmonary TB patients. Suggestion: Further research is needed on providing counseling specifically for TB-RO patients as an effort to improve treatment compliance. In addition, further research is needed on counseling interventions with a cultural approach which is expected to vary in each country and will affect the success of the intervention.   Keywords: Compliance; Drug Resistance; Health Counseling; Treatment; Tuberculosis.
