Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of flash interactive media in improving students' understanding of concepts in elementary schools. This type of research was mixed methods with an embedded experimental model design. Quantitative data analysis techniques on the variable understanding of the concept, namely the results of the analysis of the students' pretest and posttest questions by using paired sample t-test. The results of the analysis are then triangulated with the qualitative Focus Group Discussion (FGD) data and the results of the interviews. This study involved 54 students who were selected by using the nonprobability sampling technique: purposive sampling. The population consists of 31 public schools and 13 private schools. The results of this study show a significant increase in the concept of understanding in the form of an increase in the average score understanding of concepts by 17.82%. According to questionnaire data that has been distributed, teachers and students respond very well to learning using the flash interactive media. Students' motivation to learn accompanies an increase in their understanding of concepts. It appears that the application of flash interactive media in science learning has a positive impact on increasing motivation that has an impact on increasing students' conceptual understanding.

Abstract

This research was conducted because of the needs to empower the studensts’ environmental awareness character. This research aims to develop a bio-conservation learning model with waste management topics adapted from Project Based Learning model (PjBL) and inquiry and determine the influences of the bio-conservation learning model toward learning outcomes and students environmental awareness. This research is an ADDIE Research and Development. The model consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The subjects consisted of 93 third graders of 02 Santo Antonius Primary School.. The techniques of collecting data were interview, observation, questionnaire, and documentation. The product was a module for teachers with several contents, such as the bio-conservation model's characteristics, goals, and syntaxes. The validation result obtained a percentage of 88.6%. The N-gain of the first experimental group was 0.072 with high criteria. On the other hand, the second experimental group obtained a percentage of 0.514 with moderate criteria. The understanding of environmental awareness attitude was obtained by using a questionnaire and observational sheets. The obtained criteria were categorized high, with average scores of questionnaire 87.2% and observation 85.9%. This research showed the influence of learning outcomes and environmental awareness attitude after using the bio conservation model. The model implementation's emerging characters were waste management and 3R activities (Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce).

Abstract

The learning process of deaf students requires more time than that of normal students. This also occurred in physics topics of natural science subject. In order to support the deaf students’ concept understanding, learning media such as teaching props, are needed. This support would help them to maximize their senses of sight and touch. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of energy change props in enhancing energy concept understanding for deaf students. This research was a quasi-experimental study with a single subject research design. The subjects of the study were five deaf students of grade VII in a junior school for special-needs students in Central Java, Indonesia. The effectiveness of learning has been shown from the improvement of conceptualization from base-line condition to intervention. An effect size technique was used in the data analysis. The result showed that the obtained average effect size in this study was 1.32 with a high category. This study indicated that the props for energy change were effective for enhancing energy concept understanding for deaf students.

Abstract

Physics is the main subject given to Vocational High Schools (SMK), especially in the fields of technology and engineering. The implementation of the 2013 curriculum at the vocational education level has an impact on changing the time for learning physics to become relatively narrow. This is added with the covid-19 pandemic, which requires students to learn independently, it makes teacher experience difficulty in delivering physics material as a whole and in-depth. The purpose of this research is to develop an applicative electronic module (E-Module ) based on android as a supplement in learning that can be used by students independently. The method used is Research and Development (RnD). The sample in this study were students of class X TKR 2 and X TKR 3 at SMK Muhammadiah Randublatung. The results of the feasibility test show that the E-Module is suitable for use as a supplement in learning with a percentage of eligibility for the material of 84.72% and a percentage of media feasibility of 95%. The legibility test results showed that the E-Module was easily understood by students with a percentage of 82%. The results of the field test showed that the E-Module got a good response from students as a supplement in learning with a percentage of 80.20%.

Abstract

The authentic assessment is a teacher’s challenge. The cognitive aspect is central of the continuity in learning development because authentic assessment is considered complicated to implement. The aim of the research is to produce an authentic ICT-based assessment system that is feasible and effective. The research method uses a one group pretest-posttest design with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, questionnaires, documentation, and tests for 131 fifth grade students with type of development is ADDIE stages. The tools that have been developed are validated and revised according to the suggestions of the media and material validators which are then tested with subjects outside the large group sample before applied in the large group test. The validation results show that the validity of the material is 95.83% and the validity of the media is 97.5% with very decent criteria, observation analysis of responsibility attitude is 88% and cooperation skills 93% with very good criteria. The large group test analysis on the pretest-posttest measures critical thinking skills as part of cognitive which shows the percentage of completeness (KKM>75) of 85% with an N-Gain score of 0.68 in the medium category and received criteria quite effective. Based on the results, it is concluded that an authentic ICT-based assessment instrument is feasible and effective to use to measure the cognitive competence, attitude of responsibility, and cooperation of fifth graders. The application of ICT-based authentic assessment system can measure students’ achievement accurately. ICT-base authentic assessment system developed can be used with flexible in line with the needs of teachers.

Abstract

The low higher order thinking skills (HOTS) of vocational students is shown from the approaches and models used in learning that are not specific, learning activities are limited to methods that have not been able to grow HOTS. One of the approaches offered in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The research objective was to analyze STEM in growing HOTS through literature studies. The data collection method used a STEM systematic review from 2016-2020 based on the indexed findings of Google Scholar and Scopus (Database: Elsevier, Scopus, and Science Direct). Qualitative descriptive data analysis technique was employed on inductive deductive patterns. Based on data analysis, there are findings of 18 Google Scholar indexed articles and 20 Scopus indexed articles according to the inclusion criteria. The results showed that: i) STEM integration patterns in growing HOTS obtained six STEM literacy patterns of 28% on Google Scholar and four STEM integration patterns by 65% in Scopus; ii) The trend of STEM and HOTS research from 2016-2020 has increased the most in 2020 by 56% on Google Scholar and 40% on Scopus. Most of the methods used are research and development (R&D) with data analysis techniques in the form of t-test on Google Scholar data and survey methods with descriptive analysis on Scopus data. The difference in the publication trend on the integration pattern, the number of samples used is greater in the Scopus data. The method used is more dominant in the survey than R&D, but whatever the research design in STEM literacy is, in principle, it can empower HOTS to increase learning activities.

Abstract

The 21st century education engages students to have higher order thinking and scientific literacy skills. However, these abilities in Indonsia are still relatively low, especially student’s scientific literacy skills. One solution to the problem of low scientific literacy skills in Indonesia is the application of STEM education. However, as technology advances pursued in STEM education, religious and cultural sciences increasingly separate themselves from science. Cultural science is rarely implemented in learning so that many students do not know their own culture. The contra between science and religion also makes students’s perception of religion and science are two independent knowledge and cannot be united. Through literature studies that have been carried out from various journal article search sites, this article discusses how important religious and cultural sciences are to be implemented into STEM education. The relationship between religion and science, culture and science, culture and religion and the urgency of religion and culture in STEM education are also discussed in this article. The results of this study propose solutions so that science education can be implemented with RE-STEM learning to overcome the gap between religion, culture and science. So, that students will have a more balanced knowledge in religion, ethnoscience and science from RE-STEM integration.
