Abstract

The oil palm plant, which has the Latin name Elaeis guineensis jacq, is a plant that comes from the Arecaceae family or the annual plant family. Oil palm is a prospective plantation commodity for cultivation. Oil palm plantations in Indonesia are spread across the islands of Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan. Oil palm is a plant that is prone to drought stress, because it has a shallow root system. Water storage in oil palms is not as much as in other crops given their shallow-rooted morphology. Water carried during the rainy season escapes into the soil layer below the root zone so that water is not retained even though oil palms are cultivated on flat land. Even with good drainage, a lot of water still escapes. Water becomes unbalanced for plant growth. Oil palms have no water reserves during the dry season. This becomes a problem if oil palms experience drought stress. Water stress can be seen from changes in plant morphology and physiology

Abstract

The aging process always happens to men or women regardless of sex or gender. One of the things that is always attached and related to gender is masculinity. The definition of masculinity is a culturally influenced social thought and practice about how to shape male traits. The hegemony of masculinity that is dominated by young men causes masculinity in older men to be considered demasculinized or the loss of masculinity. The depiction of aging masculinity in Indonesian film media has recently dared to break the stigma of masculinity dominated by young men. One of the Indonesian films, Sejuta Sayang Untuknya, directed by Herwin Novianto, tells about family issues regarding the struggle of an elderly single father in raising and caring for his only daughter amid economic difficulties. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with John Fiske's semiotic analysis method to convey codes and deep meanings in the movie. The researcher's goal is to represent how aging masculinity in the movie Sejuta Sayang Untuknya, especially in the character of Aktor Sagala as a single father. The results of this study found that there are 6 scenes related to twilight masculinity analyzed using John Fiske's three stages of semiotics including the level of reality, level of representation, and level of ideology. Keywords: Representation, Aging Masculinity, John Fiske Semiotics, Film.

Abstract

Environmental problems continue to grow and become more complex over time. One of the problems that occurs is the number of puddles on village roads due to increasingly low water absorption space. In this case, based on a survey in Wonotirto Village, another problem arises, namely that waste processing, especially organic waste, is still not maximally utilized. In general, people in Wonotirto Village dispose of organic waste in their yards and burn it. The approach method used to find out the problems in this service activity includes interviews and observations in the field. The training on making biopore infiltration holes (BIH) can be used as a medium for making organic fertilizer. That way this program aims to educate and increase public understanding of groundwater infiltration holes and the use of organic waste for the environment. Community service activities in the form of socialization and training in making Biopore Infiltration Holes (BIH) and utilizing organic waste as fertilizer. The results of the activity were the installation of two biopore infiltration holes at Wonotirto Village Hall and training in making liquid fertilizer from leftover rice washing water. Making Biopore Infiltration Holes (LRB) can increase the amount of water infiltration and get the benefits of organic waste to fertilize the soil. During the rainy season, Biopore Infiltration Holes (BIH) can prevent flooding and can accommodate water sources. Making liquid fertilizer from leftover rice washing water can utilize household liquid waste and save money on fertilizer purchases.

Abstract

Oil palm is the largest vegetable oil-producing plantation crop in the world. The need for oil palm seeds increases along with the increasing demand for oil palm products. The need for these seeds needs to be balanced with the presence of ordinary oil palm seeds. The abnormalities in oil palm plantations were found due to the selection of seeds that were less selective. Chimera in plants is the formation of characteristics that are governed by several genotypic constitutions and grow side by side with each other in tissues. In oil palm, chimeras can begin to appear in the seedling phase. The characteristics of abnormalities can be seen in terms of morphology and plant physiology. Based on morphological characteristics, chimera plants have a phenotype that is determined by the presence of white or bright yellow leaves parallel to the stem, stunted plants, rosettes, undeveloped leaves, mantle sissy flowers, followed by squirrel tail flowers (androgynous), thick coat fruits, and thin skin. . Based on physiological characteristics, chimeras occur due to changes in chloroplast development which result in changes in the chlorophyll content of oil palm plants. Oil palm plants that are considered abnormal from time to time can turn into normal plants depending on the level of abnormality of each plant. This study aims to examine the characteristics of abnormalities in oil palm plants. Therefore, it can be seen that oil palm seeds are classified as abnormal to be selected before planting in the field. This is done to obtain high potential oil palm plantations.
