Abstract

Language reflects the logical structure of reality and shapes how speakers perceive themselves and their surroundings. Language relativity reinforces the connection between language and cultural behavior. This study examines the worldview of the Puger fishermen community, a speech community within Jember Pandhalungan culture, through their language use and discourse patterns. Their linguistic repertoire, shaped by coastal life in south Jember, East Java, influences their speech behavior. Using ethnographic communication methods, this study classifies and analyzes their speech discourse based on six worldview elements. Each discourse conveys meaning that defines their identity and perceptions of outsiders. Puger fishermen see themselves as brave, consistent, innovative, adaptive, introspective, and egalitarian. They regard the sea as their source of life and livelihood, emphasizing harmony between their lives and the ocean. Their speech discourse also reflects a value system guiding their way of life. They interpret and implement these values to create a balanced existence, aligning with the philosophy of memayu hayuning bawana—preserving harmony in the world. Through their language, the Puger fishermen demonstrate a deep connection between cultural identity, worldview, and daily life.

Abstract

Among the choices of grammatical forms, the transitive system stands out in the pedophile community. The purpose of this study is to reveal the exercise of power and ideology of pedophiles through their transitive choices. In systemic functional linguistics (SFL), the transitivity system is widely used to analyze isolated clauses and contextual clauses. The data for this research was taken from conversational texts by pedophiles at WordPress Jakongsu from December 2021 to February 2022. Data were collected through netnography approach (Kozinets, 2010), which applies ethnography collection technique in the virtual world. The existed data were compiled in a digital archive. To analyze the data, Fairclough's critical discourse analysis (CDA) model was used (i.e., description, interpretation, and explanation). The findings of the study indicate that pedophiles tend to use clauses of the material process than those of mental and relational processes.

Abstract

This paper aims at explaining the implementation of RAWAC (Reading and Writing across Curriculum) in teaching essay for college students. Using an action research based integrated with hermeneutic technique, this study was conducted in Kelompok Belajar Mahasiswa (Student Study Club) at Ganesha University of Education, Bali. The result of the study indicates that this model is able to synchronize the excellent aspects of reading-writing and metacognition as those give benefits to the students in terms of strengthening their critical thinking in exploring ideas, their discipline attitude during the process of planning, monitoring, and evaluating concepts, and also strengthening the students’ self-regulated learning in writing essay. Implementing RAWAC improve the students’ ability in writing essays, especially in exploring ideas, organizing the writing, choosing the diction and enhancing their writing technique.

Abstract

Keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam organisasi perguruan tinggi memberikan manfaat signifikan bagi pengembangan keterampilan non-akademik, sekaligus menuntut kemampuan manajemen waktu yang baik untuk menjaga keseimbangan dengan tanggung jawab akademik. Penelitian sebelumnya menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas organisasi dapat meningkatkan keterampilan dan kesiapan kerja mahasiswa, namun juga berpotensi menimbulkan prokrastinasi dan stres apabila tidak diimbangi dengan pengelolaan waktu yang efektif. Meskipun demikian, sejumlah studi terdahulu masih memiliki keterbatasan, seperti fokus pada pengaruh jangka pendek, pendekatan yang bersifat korelasional, serta kurangnya eksplorasi pengalaman subjektif mahasiswa dalam menghadapi konflik peran. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji secara mendalam manfaat dan tantangan mahasiswa, khususnya mahasiswa FMIPA Universitas Negeri Malang angkatan 2024 dalam menyeimbangkan aktivitas organisasi dan tanggung jawab akademik. Melalui pendekatan ini, penelitian diharapkan mampu menggambarkan dampak keterlibatan organisasi terhadap kinerja akademik, efikasi diri, kesiapan kerja, serta kesejahteraan psikologis mahasiswa, sehingga dapat menjadi dasar pengembangan strategi yang mendukung peran organisasi secara optimal dalam proses pendidikan tinggi.
