Abstract

Catfish (Pangsianodon hypopthalmus) is a type of economical fish that is quite popular with the public. Production of Catfish cultivation in Banjar Regency has decreased, due to flooding as a factor influencing production risk. The existence of production risks in the Catfish cultivation business also greatly influences the income of Catfish cultivators. The aim of this research is to analyze the income of Catfish cultivation businesses in the presence of production risks. This research was conducted in Martapura District and West Martapura District, Banjar Regency. The number of Catfish cultivators in the sample was 41 respondents. The type of data used in This research was used panel data. Business income is analyzed using the R/C ratio and the value of expected income when production risks occur is measured using expected return. The results of the analysis show that the Catfish cultivation business has an R/C ratio > 1 and the expected return value is positive, namely IDR 5,431,767.27. The probability that there is a production risk, namely flooding, shows that the Catfish cultivation business in Banjar Regency is efficient and therefore feasible to run.

Abstract

Sandy coastal farming has become a crucial livelihood strategy in Indonesia's marginal coastal areas, yet technology adoption remains uneven across farmer households. This study examines how the economic behavior of farmer households influences the intensity of sandy coastal farming technology adoption and analyzes how changes in internal and external factors impact adoption, production, labor allocation, income, and expenditure. Using primary cross-sectional data from 196 farmer households in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, the study applies an integrated household economic model estimated as a system of simultaneous equations using the Two-Stage Least Squares method. Technology adoption is represented through the allocation of cultivated land and the use of soil-improving inputs, allowing for the examination of adoption intensity within a unified household decision framework. The results show that adoption intensity is primarily driven by household income and family labor availability, with cultivated area acting as a key transmission channel linking income to input use and production outcomes. Higher returns from sandy coastal farming induce substitution toward hired labor rather than proportional increases in family labor. Simulation results indicate that output price incentives strengthen adoption through income and scale effects, while reductions in irrigated land weaken adoption by tightening household resource constraints. These findings underscore the significance of income stability and access to resources in maintaining high adoption intensity in marginal land systems.

Abstract

Abstract. Seffyanto AD, Syaukat Y, Hartojo S, Falatehan AF. 2026. Rice price volatility and market integration between Indonesia and Thailand under COVID-19. Asian J Agric 10 (2): g100206. https://doi.org/10.13057/asianjagric/g100206. Rice price stability is central to Indonesian food security because rice remains a major component of household expenditure and consumer price sensitivity. Although Indonesia is a major rice producer, domestic prices remain linked to international markets through imports, particularly from Thailand. This study examines whether the COVID-19 crisis disrupted Indonesia-Thailand rice market integration or temporarily weakened short-run price transmission through domestic stabilization policies. Using weekly data from January 2018 to December 2024 (N = 336), we apply Johansen cointegration, a Vector Error Correction Model with regime-shift dummies, Granger causality tests, and GARCH modeling. The Johansen test confirmed one stable long-run cointegrating relationship, estimated as PTH = 0.7976PID + 0.2336. VECM results showed gradual equilibrium adjustment, with an estimated half-life of approximately 25-26 weeks. Under normal conditions, Thai FOB prices were strongly transmitted to Indonesian domestic prices, with a coefficient of 1.0370. During the COVID-19 period, the interaction coefficient of -1.0189 reduced net short-run transmission to 0.0181, indicating near-zero pass-through during the crisis. Granger causality tests showed weak predictive influence from Thailand to Indonesia (p = 0.0798) and stronger predictive influence from Indonesia to Thailand (p = 0.0013). GARCH results showed divergent volatility responses, with Indonesian volatility slightly declining from 1.1164% to 1.0982%, while Thai volatility increased from 1.2617% to 1.8470. These findings indicate that COVID-19 weakened short-run price transmission but did not break long-run market integration. The results are consistent with the buffering role of Indonesian stabilization policies, although causal interpretation remains limited by the observational design.

Abstract

Background: The European Union is a major importer of natural rubber. However, the rise of global competition and the implementation of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) in 2023 has impacted rubber trade dynamics, particularly in Like-Minded Countries (LMC).Purpose: This study analyzes the competitiveness and efficiency of rubber exports from 17 LMC to the European Union from 2013 to 2022.Design/methodology/approach: The study uses Revealed Comparative Advantage, Export Product Dynamics, X-Model, and Stochastic Frontier Analysis with data from the UN Comtrade, Trade Map, and World Bank.Findings/Result: This study shows increased competitiveness in rubber exports to the European Union, while some countries experienced stagnation. The implementation of sustainability policies, particularly the EUDR, significantly influences export competitiveness. Countries that adhere to sustainability standards have demonstrated notable improvements in their export performance. Conclusion: Although some countries have significant export potential, they have not fully optimized it. The LMC needs to enhance efficiency and meet sustainability standards to improve competitiveness and fully leverage export potential in the European Union market.Originality/value (state of the art): This research contributes to the limited literature on rubber trade dynamics under the impact of environmental regulations such as the EUDR. It comprehensively analyzes trade patterns and efficiency and offers valuable insights for academic and practical applications in global trade studies. Keywords: Competitiveness, environmental policy, export efficiency, stochastic frontier, trade potential
