Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Imlā' method in learning Arabic writing skills (maharah al-kitābah) at the Al-Abraar Modern Islamic Boarding School and analyze its suitability from a constructivistic perspective. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation of santri writing results. The results show that the Imlā' method is applied systematically through the stages of mastering grammatical concepts, structured dictation exercises, and insyā' writing. This learning process involves the active role of the teacher as a facilitator who provides guidance (scaffolding) and correction on an ongoing basis, so that students are able to build independence in thinking and writing. From the viewpoint of constructivism, the Imlā' method reflects contextual and reflective learning, where knowledge is actively constructed through direct experience and social interaction. Documentation of writing results shows significant progress in spelling accuracy, sentence structure, and understanding of nahwu-sharaf rules. The findings show that the Imlā' method is not only effective in improving technical writing skills, but also relevant to meaningful learning approaches that focus learners as active subjects in the learning process.

Abstract

This study focuses on the impact of Arabic drama competitions on improving the speaking skills (maharah kalam) of female students at Pondok Modern Aisyiyah Islamic Boarding School Bojonegoro. Using a qualitative approach, the research explores the experiences and perceptions of the students through in-depth interviews and direct observations. The findings indicate that drama competitions not only serve as a platform for contest but also play a significant role in enhancing various aspects of the students’ Arabic language proficiency. Notably, the competitions boost the students’ confidence to speak in public, enrich their vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and enhance their overall speaking fluency. Furthermore, the study reveals that drama competitions strengthen the bonds of sisterhood among students, foster teamwork, create a communicative and interactive learning environment, and encourage the use of Arabic in real-life daily situations within the boarding school. In conclusion, Arabic drama competitions have proven to be an effective learning strategy for improving students' speaking skills and motivating them to communicate actively in Arabic in a modern Islamic boarding school setting, going beyond mere theoretical knowledge towards practical language use.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the muhadatsah program in improving students’ Arabic speaking skills at MTs Koto Tangah, focusing on activity forms, instructional methods, managerial aspects, and supporting and inhibiting factors. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The findings reveal that the muhadatsah program is regularly conducted outside formal Arabic lesson hours through various communicative activities such as paired dialogues, group discussions, role play, and short presentations. The program positively influences students’ speaking fluency, self-confidence, and frequency of Arabic use in daily interactions. However, several challenges remain, including weak language discipline, limited vocabulary, an underdeveloped Arabic language environment, and managerial constraints. Overall, the implementation of muhadatsah at MTs Koto Tangah aligns with the principles of Contextual Teaching and Learning and Communicative Language Teaching in developing students’ speaking skills.

Abstract

Post-Covid-19 pandemic, virtual technology is no longer merely a solution for online learning but has become an integral part of modern education. Students of the Arabic Language Education (PBA) postgraduate program at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang frequently utilize online platforms in learning activities to support teaching and learning processes, including discussions, presentations, assignment submissions, and evaluations. This study aims to describe the utilization, advantages, and disadvantages of virtual media technology in Arabic language learning among PBA postgraduate students after the pandemic. The study employs a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. Data were collected through unstructured interviews and questionnaires distributed to PBA postgraduate students. The findings reveal that students utilize virtual technology such as video conferencing platforms like Zoom and Google Meet for interactive learning, language learning applications like Duolingo for self-directed skill improvement, and digital dictionaries for flexible material access and vocabulary comprehension. Online discussion forums like WhatsApp are also used for collaboration and information exchange. Furthermore, students experience several advantages of virtual technology in learning Arabic, including time and place flexibility, easy access to learning materials, online interaction with teachers and peers, multimedia utilization, and self-paced learning. However, students also face challenges, including poor internet connections, limited direct interaction with instructors, difficulties understanding material online, lack of motivation for independent study, and insufficient opportunities for speaking practice.
