Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of drill techniques in improving pronunciation and fluency among learners of English as a Foreign Language (EFL), who often face challenges in speaking fluency and pronunciation accuracy. The study aims to evaluate whether repetitive practice (drill) can significantly address these issues. An experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design was applied to two groups: an experimental group employing drill techniques and a control group without drills. Results showed that the experimental group achieved greater improvements in pronunciation and fluency compared to the control group, demonstrating the effectiveness of drill techniques in EFL instruction. Based on these findings, it is recommended that drill techniques be integrated with interactive teaching methods for more optimal and comprehensive outcomes. Future research should include long-term evaluations and explore the integration of drills with communicative approaches for sustainable language development.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate an English workbook specifically designed for Islamic university students to enhance their language proficiency, focusing on pronunciation, fluency, and academic writing. The workbook integrates culturally relevant content and terminology related to Islamic studies, catering to the unique linguistic needs of these students. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=30) of Islamic university students. The experimental group used the newly developed workbook, while the control group followed traditional learning methods. Data were collected through pretests and posttests on pronunciation, fluency, and writing skills. The results indicated a significant improvement in the experimental group's language skills, particularly in pronunciation and fluency, compared to the control group. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of a specialized English workbook in improving language skills among Islamic university students, highlighting the importance of culturally tailored materials in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) learning. Further research is suggested to explore the long-term impact of such workbooks and to examine the integration of interactive and communicative teaching methods for more comprehensive language acquisition.

Abstract

This research was conducted for 30 days in May 2022, at the Fish Hatchery and Breeding Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine of Riau University. The a imed of this study to determine the effect of fertilizer application from fermented cow feces on the growth of Chlorella sp. and knowing the best dose of fermented cow feces for the growth of Chlorella sp. This study used an experimental method, while the experimental design used a completely randomized design with 4 treatments, each with 3 replications. as for the treatment in this study P0 (Walne fertilizer 1 ml//L), P1 (cow feces fermented 3.5 ml/L), P2 (fermented cow feces 5.5 ml/L), P3 (fermented cow feces 7.5 ml/L). The best fermented cow feces is 5.5 ml/L culture media with population density the highest was 340.00 x 104 cells/ml and the specific growth rate was 0.29 cells/day and the highest density peak occurred on the 9th day. Water quality during the study was in the optimum range, namely temperature with a value of 28.10C - 29.90C, pH during the study was 6-8 and DO 4 - 5.9 mg/L

Abstract

ABSTRACTTechnological advances have opened up new opportunities in the education sector, such as increasing digital literacy and awareness of digital ethics. However, there is still a gap in understanding the effective application of technology in learning, especially among high school students in urban areas. This community service activity aims to develop students' skills in the ethically responsible use of technology and digital ethics. The implementation of this Community Service activity is carried out in three main stages: identifying needs, implementing training, and evaluating. The partner in this activity is a high school located in Makassar City, South Sulawesi, with a total of 50 student participants. From the training, there was a significant increase in students' knowledge in terms of digital literacy with an average comprehension test score increasing from 55% to 80% after the training. Students were also able to use other digital tools such as Google Workspace and Canva and became more aware of the need for security and ethics in the use of technology. Although there were some technical and non-technical difficulties, the use of interactive materials combined with offline teaching methods resolved these problems. This program has proven to have a positive impact on forming more responsible and informed technology users among students, and can be a model for similar initiatives in the future. Keywords: digital literacy; training; digital ethics; educational technology; students.

Abstract

Stress can affect individuals of all ages, from the young to the elderly, leading to a compromised immune system and increased susceptibility to illness. This study addresses this issue by developing an internet of things (IoT) based stress level detection system utilizing fuzzy logic methods. The device measures multiple physiological parameters and processes the data using an ESP32 microcontroller. This allows individuals to monitor and understand their stress levels efficiently and automatically through a liquid crystal display (LCD) display and Android devices. The system integrates various sensors to capture vital signs such as heart rate (HR), respiration rate, and body temperature. These readings are then analyzed using its algorithms to determine the stress level, which is displayed on both the onboard LCD and the connected Android device via an IoT interface. This real-time feedback mechanism empowers users to take proactive measures in stress management. Testing and validation of the device were conducted by comparing its readings with the depression anxiety stress scales (DASS-42) test results. The comparison showed an 80% correlation, demonstrating the device’s accuracy and reliability in detecting stress levels. This innovative approach leverages the advantages of IoT and fuzzy logic to provide a practical and effective solution for stress monitoring and management.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the digital literacy levels of Phase D students (Grades VIII and IX) in three junior high schools classified as severely underdeveloped in Lembang District, Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that most students have acquired basic digital skills, such as operating computers, using word and data processing software, and understanding the use of the internet and email. However, awareness of digital security remains very low. Major challenges include limited infrastructure, such as the small number of available computer devices, unstable electricity, and restricted internet access. Despite these constraints, students demonstrate strong enthusiasm, and teachers show initiative in maximizing available resources to support digital learning. This study recommends improving infrastructure, providing continuous teacher training, and implementing contextual learning strategies to strengthen digital literacy development in 3T (frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged) regions.
