Abstract

This study analyzes how Generation Z's digital activism through Instagram during the August–September 2025 demonstrations reflects substantive civic participation. A mixed-method approach with a sequential explanatory design was used. Quantitative data were analyzed using simple linear regression, and qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis. The study involved 200 Generation Z respondents selected through purposive sampling. The results indicate a statistically significant relationship between Instagram digital activism and online civic engagement (r = 0.818; p < 0.001). Approximately 66.9% of the variation in civic engagement is explained by digital activism. Qualitative findings reveal that Generation Z's digital activism transcends symbolic slacktivism and demonstrates substantive civic participation. Through Instagram features such as Stories, Reels, and templates, they disseminate information, shape public opinion, and coordinate real actions both online and offline. Instagram functions as a strategic medium for reflective and transformative civic engagement, showing that digital participation can evolve into meaningful social movements within the digital democracy ecosystem. Future research should include other social media platforms, expand the sample, and examine digital literacy as a mediating variable.

Abstract

One of the important components that need to be developed to achieve the goals of Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn) is to create citizens who are able to actively participate. However, in PPKn learning, there are still many teachers who use the lecture method, so they are not able to stimulate the active involvement of students. This study aims to increase the activity of students using the Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) learning model assisted by digital comic media by involving students in class XI IPA-4 SMA Negeri 1 Kandangan. The method used in this research is classroom action research which is carried out in two cycles. Data was collected through observation and interviews. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, descriptive presentation, and conclusions. The main finding in this study was that there was an increase in student activity from low (average percentage 41.53%) to high (average percentage 82.89%). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the TSTS learning model assisted by digital comics can increase the activeness of students in Civics learning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a mobile-based learning media to support the implementation of the Project Citizen model and to analyze its effectiveness in civic education within higher education settings. The research utilized a Research and Development (RD) approach, applying the ADDIE model which consists of five phases: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The development process involved one media expert, one subject matter expert, and 52 university students as participants. Validation from the media expert resulted in a score of 91%, indicating the media is very feasible. Similarly, the material expert gave a validation score of 94%, also categorized as very feasible. Student feedback, collected through questionnaires, yielded an effectiveness score of 83%, classifying the media as very effective. The findings demonstrate that the developed mobile-based Project Citizen learning media is both feasible and effective. It supports active civic engagement and structured learning, aligning well with the objectives of civic education in higher education institutions. The mobile-based Project Citizen media is a viable and effective tool for enhancing civic education. Its integration into the curriculum can facilitate meaningful student participation in democratic practices through project-based learning.

Abstract

This study aims to identify forms of civic education implementation, analyze indicators of political participation on social media, and formulate an ideal civic education model to increase political articipation on social media. The method used is a systematic literature review using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses approach. The results of the study of 56 articles show that civic education for civil society is carried out through expressive participation on social media, learning in schools, political activities, civil organizations and communities, social discussions and interactions, and education in the family environment. There are six indicators of political participation on social media, namely participation in political discussions on social media, online election campaigns, sharing political content, signing online petitions, using hashtags, and liking and commenting on political content. Political participation on social media can increase if it is supported by the implementation of civic education that prioritizes four aspects, namely digital literacy, inclusiveness, ethical discourse, and holistic integration.
