Abstract

Abstract

Work-family conflict (WFC) remains one of the most widely recognized occupational stressors, contributing to reduced well-being, increased turnover intentions, and poorer physical and mental health among employees. Although previous studies have demonstrated the importance of social support in addressing WFC, a comprehensive understanding of how different forms of support operate across occupations and work contexts is still limited. This systematic review aimed to examine the role of social support in mitigating work-family conflict and its associated outcomes. The review followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A systematic search of the Scopus database using Boolean operators identified 431 articles related to work-family conflict, social support, and organizational support. Following duplicate removal and screening based on predefined inclusion criteria using the PICOS framework, 50 studies published between 2020 and 2026 were selected for analysis. Narrative synthesis revealed four major findings. First, WFC is shaped by occupational and contextual differences, with particularly high levels reported in healthcare, construction, hospitality, and remote or hybrid work settings. Second, organizational and supervisory support consistently reduce the negative effects of WFC by improving job satisfaction, family satisfaction, and overall well-being, thereby lowering emotional exhaustion and turnover intentions. Third, support from spouses and family members strengthens work-life balance and reduces the spillover of work-related stress into family life. Fourth, gender differences remain evident, with women generally experiencing more severe consequences of WFC than men. The findings support the Conservation of Resources Theory and Spillover/Crossover Theory by demonstrating that social support functions as a valuable resource across work and family domains. The review concludes that organizations should combine formal work-family policies with supportive leadership practices to effectively reduce work-family conflict. Future research should emphasize longitudinal designs, cross-cultural comparisons, underrepresented occupations, and the influence of digital and hybrid work environments on work-family dynamics.

Abstract

Academic resilience, defined as students' ability to remain academically engaged and adapt effectively despite academic, social, and psychological challenges, has become an increasing priority for universities. Counseling services including individual, group, digital, and curriculum-embedded interventions are widely implemented to strengthen resilience, yet evidence regarding their effectiveness remains limited. This systematic review aimed to synthesize evidence on the impact of counseling services on university students' academic resilience. Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a Boolean search was conducted in the Scopus database, identifying 766 English-language publications published between 2020 and 2026. After screening and eligibility assessment, 60 articles met the inclusion criteria. Quality appraisal using the FICO framework (minimum score of 5/8) resulted in 10 studies being included in the qualitative synthesis. Four major themes emerged: (1) group counseling using cognitive behavioral and acceptance-based approaches effectively enhanced resilience and reduced psychological distress; (2) individual counseling through university counseling centers promoted self-acceptance and decreased clinically significant distress over time; (3) digital and app-based counseling expanded accessibility but showed more variable effectiveness than face-to-face interventions; and (4) embodiment- and nature-based therapies demonstrated promise as complementary approaches. Overall, counseling services positively contribute to students' academic resilience, with psychological interventions serving as the primary mechanism for improving resilience outcomes. These findings provide practical guidance for universities in optimizing counseling services. However, the review was limited to a single database, English-language publications, and a single-reviewer screening process, highlighting the need for future multicenter studies comparing counseling modalities and intervention characteristics.

Abstract

Purpose: Learning adjustment among students is a crucial aspect in fostering strong academic achievement, particularly in elective courses. With effective learning adjustment, students become better able to set clear academic goals, focus on learning activities, and successfully meet all academic demands. Various factors influence students’ learning adjustment, one of which is gender. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of learning adjustment in elective subjects between male and female students. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach using a comparative method. Sampling was conducted using total sampling, with a sample size of 194 Phase F students at SMA N 2 Pulau Punjung, comprising 117 female students (59.3%) and 77 male students (39.7%). The instrument used in this study was a student learning adjustment scale that had been developed and validated through expert judgment. Additionally, the instrument had undergone validity and reliability testing. The validity test results showed that all item-total correlation coefficients exceeded the r-table values. The reliability test yielded a Cronbach’s alpha score of 0.970. Data analysis was performed using the independent samples t-test. Findings: The results of the study indicate that, descriptively and overall, students’ learning adjustment at SMAN 2 Pulau Punjung falls into the high category. Next, based on hypothesis testing, it was found that women had higher scores than men, t (192) = −2.344, p = 0.020, mean difference = 7.01, 95% CI [1.11, 12.90], with an effect size based on the article’s statistical calculations of approximately Cohen’s d = 0.34, or small to moderate. Research Implications: This study provides empirical evidence that gender still influences students’ academic adjustment in specific subject area. Originality: This study offers an analysis of self-adjustment in learning, particularly in specialized subjects, which, in this context, are still very limited and have not yet been addressed.

Abstract

Road safety is a crucial aspect in areas with hazardous geographical conditions such as Jorong Lubuk Bauak, Batipuh Baruah District, Tanah Datar Regency, which features winding roads with sharp turns, narrow widths, minimal lighting, and direct adjacency to steep ravines without safety barriers. Through the 2025 Community Service Program (KKN) of Universitas Negeri Padang, an intervention was carried out in the form of road reflector installation to improve visibility and reduce accident potential, particularly at night and during adverse weather conditions. Activities included planning stages, production of reflector poles from PVC materials, and installation at two strategic points identified through field observation and local community input. Post-installation evaluation results showed significant improvements in road user alertness and ease of recognizing road contours and safe boundaries near ravines. This program demonstrates that simple solutions based on appropriate technology such as road reflectors can be effective and economical alternatives in improving traffic safety in areas with limited infrastructure. It is hoped that this activity can be replicated in other high-risk areas in Indonesia as a concrete implementation of sustainable community service programs.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe students' aggressive behavior and examine the effectiveness of group guidance services based on behavior modification using the Art Therapy drawing technique in reducing aggressive behavior. The study employed an experimental approach with a Single Subject Research (SSR) A–B design, involving eight junior high school students who met the research criteria. The participants exhibited aggressive behaviors, including both physical and verbal aggression, such as engaging in verbal conflicts, making threats, displaying hostility, mocking peers, hitting or pushing others, and damaging other people's belongings. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire to measure the level of aggressive behavior before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and the N-Gain Test. The findings revealed a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores, with a significance value of 0.012 (p < 0.05), indicating that the intervention effectively reduced students' aggressive behavior. All participants showed a decrease in their aggression scores, demonstrating consistent behavioral improvement. Furthermore, the N-Gain result of 66% indicated that the intervention was moderately effective. The Art Therapy drawing technique proved to help students express their emotions constructively, improve self-control, and reduce aggressive tendencies. However, the intervention's effectiveness was not yet optimal due to internal and external factors affecting the participants. Therefore, strengthening the intervention through increased service intensity and greater environmental support is recommended to achieve more optimal and sustainable outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group counseling services based on behavior modification using social skills training techniques in preventing phubbing behavior among students who play online games. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group. The study sample consisted of 20 students divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected using a phubbing scale and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and the Mann–Whitney U Test. The results showed a significant decrease in phubbing behavior in the experimental group (p < 0.05), with the average score decreasing from 103.7 to 73.2 (Δ = 30.5), while in the control group, the decrease was from 91.6 to 79.4 (Δ = 12.2). The decrease in the experimental group was greater and more consistent compared to the control group. These findings indicate that group counseling services based on behavior modification using social skills training techniques are effective in improving social skills and reducing smartphone dependence in social interactions.
