Abstract

Enviromental preservation plays an important role in the sustainability of living ecosystems. Environmental damage is caused by irresponsible human behavior so that environmental damage enters a very concerning stage. Therefore, environmental literacy needs to be developed from an early age in elementary school students as candidates for future generations who act as active agent of change. This is done with various effort through the educational process and begins with filtering information about student environmental literacy disparities, especially in Bogor City based on environmental schools and public schools. In this study using a survey method, using purposive random sampling technique. The population in this study was determined based on the category of environmental schools (SBL) and public schools (SU). Then, from the school category, respondents were selected based on the grade level. The high class level categories are grade 5 and 6, while the low class level categories are grade 3 and 4. Based on the analysis of the result of the answers to questionnaire, it was found that the environmental literacy of elementary school students in Bogor City for each school category has carried out environmental awareness activities. As for the measurement based on disposition toward the environment, the assessment of students environmental literacy was categorized as good, even among them very good for several indicators of environmental literacy.

Abstract

The typical geological structure of West Sumatra causes a high risk of earthquakes. Therefore, the ability of disaster context science literacy (LSKB) needs to be developed in order to students can apply science to solve problems related earthquakes. The research aims to describe the characteristics of the early science literacy abilities of science education students about earthquake markers. The knowledge aspect of scientific literacy is focused on the procedural and epistemic domains. Determination of research subjects by purposive sampling involving 70 students. Data collection was carried out with thorough tests and surveys using the LSKB Test and the Disaster Preparedness Questionnaire. Data were analyzed quantitatively-descriptive. The results showed that: 1) The level of mastery in the domain of procedural and epistemic knowledge was 38.18 and 19.12, included in the very low category, 2) In procedural knowledge, students already had sufficient knowledge in determining variables but had problems making graphs and graphical interpretations, 3) In epistemic knowledge, analysis and inference most mastered by students, 4) the characteristics of procedural and epistemic knowledge are content novelty, contextuality, dimensions of inquiry, scientific exploration and data visualization. It can be concluded that the level of mastery of procedural and epistemic domain knowledge in science students is still moderate, and it requires training in the three domains of scientific literacy

Abstract

Modul asam-basa berbasis SSI dan berorientasi literasi sains telah dikembangkan sebagai sumberbelajar alternatif yang sangat diperlukan dalam pembelajaran kimia pada masa pandemik. Kajianlebih lanjut telah dilakukan untuk memastikan keterujian dan kelayakan modul tersebut untukdigunakan, sebagai bagian dari penelitian Educational Design Research dengan modelpengembangan Plomp. Uji kelayakan modul dilakukan di salah satu SMA Negeri di KabupatenBandung dengan melibatkan 20 orang siswa sebagai partisipan dan 5 orang guru kimia serta 2orang dosen ahli sebagai validator. Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan tahapan: (1) penelitianpendahuluan; (2) perencanaan dan pengembangan produk; (3) uji kelayakan; serta (4) uji cobaterbatas untuk mengetahui tingkat keterbacaan. Modul yang dikembangkan memiliki beberapakarakteristik yaitu berbasis pembelajaran SSI, penyajian materi diawali oleh konteks, contoh danlatihan soal berkonteks serta dilengkapi dengan daftar bacaan tambahan. Hasil validasi danpenilaian terhadap modul menunjukkan bahwa modul yang dikembangkan memiliki kriteriasangat baik sehingga layak dan memenuhi syarat untuk digunakan dalam proses pembelajarankimia di kelas XI. Hasil uji keterbacaan menunjukkan bahwa modul yang dikembangkanmemiliki tingkat keterbacaan yang tinggi dengan kategori independen yang artinya siswa tidakmengalami kesulitan dalam memahami modul ini. Siswa memberikan tanggapan positif terhadapmodul yang dikembangkan baik dari segi tampilan, penyajian, kebahasaan, dan konteks yangdigunakan.Kata kunci: Socioscientific

Abstract

The energy issue is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is a global development agenda that all countries, including Indonesia, must follow. The curriculum plays a crucial role in enhancing students' energy literacy. It is expected that with the energy literacy possessed by students, they will have a good understanding of energy, which will encourage them to use energy wisely. Additionally, it is hoped that creative ideas from students will emerge to address energy-related problems. Based on this background, this research aims to enhance students' creativity in addressing energy issues. The research method employed is a quantitative research method with a Pretest-Posttest Nonequivalent Control Group Design, which is a form of Quasi Experimental Design. The subjects in this study are twelfth-grade science students (XII MIPA) selected through purposive sampling and divided into two groups, namely the control group and the experimental group. The control group uses a project-based learning model, while the experimental group uses project-based learning based on the engineering design process. The number of samples for the experimental group is 33 students, and for the control group, it is 34 students, making a total of 67 research subjects. The creative thinking skills of students are measured using a descriptive test that includes indicators of creative thinking skills, while student creativity in their products is measured using an assessment sheet for creative products based on presentations and testing of creative products carried out at the end of the learning process. The data analysis results show that there is an improvement in students' creative thinking skills, as indicated by the average N-Gain achievement of 53.3%, falling into the moderate category. Additionally, the creativity of student products in all creative product indicators is rated as highly creative, with an average score of 89. The Mann Whitney U Test results indicate a significant difference in the improvement of creative thinking skills and student creativity in their products

Abstract

Learning that does not accommodate the learning styles of all students will experience boredom and a decrease in the critical level of students. This study aims to determine the effect of VARK learning style-based chemistry learning on improving students' critical thinking skills. The study used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design and one group pretest-posttest design. The research was conducted on 65 students of the State Islamic Senior High School in Bogor. The instrument used was an essay test of ten questions that met the criteria for critical thinking indicators. The instrument trials used were validity and reliability tests. Next, the Paired T-Test and N-Gain Tests were carried out. Based on the Paired T-Test, a significance value of 0.00 was obtained, indicating that Ho was rejected, so there were differences in students' critical thinking skills before and after the VARK-based chemistry learning was implemented. The results of the N-Gain test increased students' critical thinking skills on average by 0.68 in the moderate category. This study concludes that VARK-based chemistry learning on molecular geometry material can improve students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Science teachers must be able to design learning to be able to accommodate demands 21st century learning. Therefore, a study was conducted that aims to analyze the profile of learning with DBL in high school science learning. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method based on learning outcomes through information learning interviews conducted with teachers at the MA Boarding School As Sa'idah Sukabumi as many as 15 people. The results of the interviews showed that generally science teachers had apply the learning process with PBL, PjBL, and discovery learning models by using Process Approach, inquiry and concept. However, students have not demonstrate quality interactions to build critical thinking in accordance with which is expected. Furthermore, no teacher has implemented it yet STEM-based science learning. The results of interviews with teachers show 99% of teachers already familiar with STEM learning, but 65% have not applied it in learning. Meanwhile, the results of interviews with teachers found that DBL which is a marker of STEM learning has never been implemented in science class. Research result provide the need for science learning innovations using the approach DBL, given the highly prospective characteristics of DBL for establishing quality interactions, thinking, creative students and practice the ability to collaborate and communicate students, even in this Covid-19 pandemic situation

Abstract

Creativity Are the important skills to face the globalization in this era. Students, especially preservice teacher should have these useful skills for make next generation are more creative, struggling with the competition between human and computers, struggling with the world condition during and after pandemic strikes, and well prepared for their work field. Some of the learning approaches have been applied in the courses to construct their creativity, one of them, are STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) by the project. This research’s aim is to investigate how is preservice science teacher’s creativity by the STEM based project learning before, during, and after pandemic covid-19. The method that is used is qualitative research by using class observation and quantitively count by creativity rubrics that includes creative thinking, behaviour, and products. This research is conducted in SETS learning (2nd semester in every year) by using STEM based project from the students of science preservice teacher year 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022. STEM based project learning could improve preservice science teacher’s creativity but it has differences for each class. Class 2019 has outperformed for creativity among others. While, class 2022 has less performed for creativity among others. Based on the observation, the covid-19 outbreak has high influence to this result because of the way of their learning in their high school before. Full online learning makes the biggest impact to science preservice teacher’s creativity during covid-19 outbreak.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology demands optimal use in the education sector in order to achieve sustainable progress. Integrating technology in the learning process, especially through the application of interactive simulations, not only provides clear visual representations of scientific concepts, but also increases student involvement in learning, stimulates curiosity, and supports the formation of deeper understanding. One platform that stands out in this regard is Physics Education Technology (PhET), which provides realistic and easy-to-use simulations. Through PhET, students can conduct virtual experiments and immediately see the results. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using PhET interactive simulations in increasing students' understanding of the concept of chemical material changes, by applying a learning model Discovery Learning. The research method applied is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design Nonequivalent Control Group Design, involving two groups of class 10 students at Madrasah Aliyah Bogor Regency. Analysis results Paired T-Test in the experimental group showed a score of 0.000 smaller than 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. This illustrates the positive impact of using PhET simulations on improving student understanding. The results of the N-Gain analysis show an average value of 0.5, indicating that PhET's effectiveness in improving students' understanding has moderate criteria. Further evaluation is needed to understand the factors that influence the effectiveness of PhET in this learning context.

Abstract

This article aims to picture the environmental literacy of the pre-service science teachers at Universitas Muhammadiyah Riau (UMRI). The highlighted environmental literacy consists of aspects of knowledge, attitudes and behavior of students related to environmental issues which are also part of the two themes of Educational for Sustainable Development (ESD), namely the theme of water and the theme of energy. Data were obtained through validated test items and questionnaire instruments. The results of this study obtained that students' environmental literacy was in the sufficient category, with an overall average percentage of environmental literacy for prospective science teacher students of 59.19. In addition, it was also obtained that the average percentage of environmental literacy of female students for the three aspects was higher than that of male students, although statistically it was concluded that there was no difference in environmental literacy of male students compared to female students. These results indicate that it is necessary to innovate lectures so that students' environmental literacy increases. One of the potential courses is Environmental Education which can be implemented on a project basis in accordance with the issues or themes in ESD.
