One of the geometry subjects that has a high level of difficulty and abstractness is the 3D-shape subject (solid geometry), especially the surface area of a polyhedron. Students have difficulty in imagining objects and constructing previously owned knowledge. One approach that uses prior knowledge as a starting point for learning is the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (IRME) approach. This research is a qualitative descriptive study that aims to describe the learning of surface area of polyhedron using the IRME approach to eighth-grade students in SMP Negeri 1 Banguntapan. The subjects of this study were all eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Banguntapan Yogyakarta. Data collection techniques used were video recording, observation, and interviews. Video recording is conducted to observe student activities during the learning process and compare them with observation and interview sheets. Meanwhile, the test instrument is used as supporting data to see student learning outcomes after learning the surface area of the polyhedron as the whole topic. The results showed that during the learning process, which lasted for two meetings, students could follow well all stages of learning by fulfilled the five characteristics of IRME and getting good results.

One of the research objectives was formulated to improve the quality of education, namely by understanding the problems of students and teachers. There were three main groups of quality characteristics of education highlighted in scientific and academic literature in Russia, namely the quality of educational objectives, the quality of the educational process, and the quality of educational outcomes. The problem of education in Indonesia is the quality of the education process. The development of teaching materials is an alternative to improve the quality of the education process. Research so far has only focused on the implementation of learning models by teachers in the classroom, but the model is not integrated into the teaching materials used. This paper examines how the effectiveness of a product that has been developed for two years on 27 Indonesian students. The product produced is a guided discovery-based module in the Complex Analysis subject. This product was developed after the preliminary analysis (defining) process. Students are given 16 modules during lectures; then students are given a final test containing all the competencies that must be achieved. Test results are scored, and statistical analyses are conducted to compare them with student score before using the module. The test used is t-test. The design used is one of the experimental research designs, One Shot Case Study. The results of the study showed that students who were taught with modules developed effectively to improve student learning outcomes. Further research can be done by implementing different learning models in teaching materials.

By taking the role as a mentor and a facilitator, a teacher in the 4th grade of elementary school needs to look at the condition of the students in the concrete thinking stage. Learning process needs to be adjusted such that the abstract objects in mathematics can be represented through concrete objects as a bridge to enter the knowledge that the students already had, especially for the material of fraction. This research aims to analyze the achievement and the improvement of students’ mathematics reasoning ability through the implementation of Indonesian realistic mathematics education (PMRI) approach. The research subject consisted of 51 students in the experiment group and 45 students in the control group which categorized into three levels (low, intermediate, and high). The result suggests that the achievement and the improvement of students’ reasoning ability in the mathematics learning using PMRI approach are better than the conventional learning.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.22342/jme.9.1.5049.41-54

The rural area's student difficulties in learning the concept of number operation had been documented by several studies, especially for the case of multiplication. The teacher typically introduces the multiplication concepts using the formula without involving the concept itself. Furthermore, this study aims to design learning trajectory on multiplication operations in the Mathematics of GASING (Math GASING) by focusing more on the concept itself than the formula and by starting from the informal to a formal level of teaching. Design research used as the research method to solve this problem consisting of three phases, namely preliminary design, teaching experiment, and retrospective analysis. The research results show that the Math GASING has a real contribution for students to understanding and mastering in the concept of the multiplication operations. This research also explains the strategy and the model discovered by students in learning multiplication that the students used as a basic concept of multiplication. Finally, the students were able to understand the concept of multiplication more easily, and they showed interest in using this learning trajectory.

Several previous researches showed that students had difficulty in understanding the basic concept of multiplication. Students are more likely to be introduced by using formula without involving the concept itself. This underlies the researcher to design a learning trajectory of learning multiplication using Permainan Tradisional Tepuk Bergambar(PT2B) as a context based on the student experience. The purpose of this research is to look at the role of PT2B in helping students'understanding in learning multiplication, which evolved from the informal to formal level in third grade with Pendidikan MatematikaRealistik Indonesia (PMRI) approach. The method used is design research starting from preliminary design, teaching experiments, and retrospective analysis. This research describes how PT2B make a real contribution to the third-grade students of SDN 179 Palembang to understand the concept of multiplication. The results showed PT2Bcontext can stimulate students to understand their knowledge of the multiplication concept. The whole strategy and model that students discover, describe and discuss shows how the students' construction or contribution can use to help their initial understanding of that concept. The stages in the learning trajectory of student have an important role in understanding the concept of the operation number from informal to the formal level.
