Abstract

Misuse of food preservatives in the society is alarming that it is necessary to raise students’ awareness about the danger to their health. Educating children about healthy food requires more than just promoting understanding but more importantly practicing reasoning and decision making. This study analyses the impact of lessons designed to improve students’ understanding, reasoning, and decision making on the use of food preservatives. Participants of the study were 30 students of 7th grade junior high school taught by a teacher who has been trained on argumentation-based teaching strategies. During the lessons students were provided with dilemmatic cases that stimulate their thinking followed by discussion before finally making a decision. Data were collected prior and after the lessons using a three-tier test that require students to provide answers that consist of explanation, reason, and evidence. The study shows improvement of students’ understanding of the content, reasoning skills, and decision making. Moreover, the study also reveals that the majority of the students tend to view food preservatives from the usefulness side but ignore the danger. The findings suggest that argumentation-based teaching strategy results in students’ deeper understanding of the content, reasoning and decision-making skills. This study recommends that efforts to promote students’ awareness of food preservatives and healthy diet can be done through a systematic and well-planned teaching strategy that encourage students to reason and to think deeply about the positive and the negative sides of food preservatives

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif penerapan pembelajaran dengan instruksi berdiferensiasi. Pendekatan fenomenologis yang menggali keyakinan, pengalaman dan persepsi individu guru terhadap pembelajaran instruksi berdiferensiasi menjadi komponen kualitatif pada penelitian ini. Terdapat 15 guru yang sudah mengikuti pelatihan instruksi berdiferensiasi dan secara sukarela mengikuti penelitian ini. Data diambil dengan menggunakan kuesioner terbuka yang menggali informasi berkaitan dengan tanggapan guru setelah penerapan pembelajaran instruksi berdiferensiasi di kelas masing-masing. Analisis kuantitatif membandingkan penguasaan konsep siswa yang menerapkan instruksi berdiferensiasi dengan siswa yang mendapatkan instruksi yang disamakan. Dari hasil analisis terungkap bahwa setiap guru memiliki tanggapan yang positif terhadap pendekatan pembelajaran instruksi berdiferensiasi dan memberikan pengaruh yang baik terhadap siswa. Di sisi lain hasil analisis Mann-Whitney dalam penelitian kuantitatif menunjukkan bahwa pada tingkat signifikansi 5%, kelompok instruksi berdiferensiasi tidak memiliki penguasaan konsep yang signifikan lebih tinggi daripada kelompok dengan instruksi yang disamakan. Hal ini menyiratkan bahwa tidak ada pengaruh instruksi berdiferensiasi yang signifikan terhadap penguasaan konsep siswa.

Abstract

The Infusion of Science into Sustainable Lifestyles Project was a case study conducted in six elementary schools in West Java, Indonesia to examine the implementation of a Merdeka Curriculum. A project aimed at increasing students' awareness of the principles of Pancasila, a set of national values, and promoting sustainable lifestyles. The study used a case study research method, including observations, interviews, and document analysis, to understand the development and implementation of the project. The results showed that the project included a variety of activities, such as games, simulations, and discussions, to engage students and help them understand the principles of sustainable living. The study also found that integrating science content, such as information about ecosystems and the environment, was an effective way to enhance the sustainability theme of the project. The researchers concluded that the Infusion of Science into Sustainable Lifestyles Project was successful in promoting sustainable lifestyles among students and recommended continued implementation and evaluation of the project in the future.

Abstract

Pembelajaran di SMA BPPI Bale Endah mewajibkan guru untuk memanfaatkan media pembelajaran berbasis IT. Namun, agar penggunaan media pembelajaran tersebut dapat berjalan lancar, faktor dukungan yang diperlukan harus dipenuhi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan media pembelajaran berbasis IT dalam mata pelajaran biologi dan mengidentifikasi kesulitan yang dihadapi guru dalam penggunaannya. Pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif digunakan dalam penelitian ini, dengan subjek penelitian adalah guru biologi dan siswa kelas X-IPA di SMA BPPI Bale Endah. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data menggunakan model Milles dan Huberman, melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa guru telah menggunakan media pembelajaran berbasis IT seperti WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Zoom, dan Cloud Ex dalam proses pembelajaran. Namun, saat pembelajaran tatap muka, guru lebih sering menggunakan presentasi PowerPoint dan video pembelajaran. Meskipun telah menggunakan media pembelajaran berbasis IT, guru masih menghadapi beberapa kesulitan, seperti merancang media terbaru, mengoperasikan media pembelajaran, keterbatasan sarana dan prasarana, serta kurangnya kreativitas guru. Namun, respon siswa terhadap penggunaan media pembelajaran berbasis IT sangat positif. Siswa dapat memahami penjelasan guru dengan lebih baik dan merasa lebih tertantang ketika media pembelajaran berbasis IT digunakan.

Abstract

Textbooks function as one the useful teaching materials in the curriculum. The purpose of the study was to identify the content of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in science textbooks for grade 7 junior high school semester 2 particularly the subject of living things and their environment consisting of socio-cultural, environmental, and economic aspects that met the textbook evaluation criteria. Data were collected by analyzing seven junior high school textbooks used in Jambi. The research instrument is a text analysis check sheet based on ESD indicators containing socio-cultural, environmental, and economic perspectives. The study discovered that teachers learn from textbooks that promote an ESD viewpoint on each subject that takes into account socio-cultural, environmental, and economic factors. The examination of the seven teaching resources revealed that the integration of the information in the teaching resources from the ESD perspective has to be revised to address the growing environmental issues. The second semester of the 2013 curriculum saw the introduction of the ESD perspective on scientific teaching materials in the form of textbooks for the 7th grade SMP. These textbooks included elements of ESD but still kept them distinct from one another. The environmental dimension is the most prominent feature of ESD in the scientific textbooks for the second semester of the 7th- grade curriculum in 2013.

Abstract

Problem-solving is an essential skill that must be possessed by students, especially in learning biology. The purpose of this research is to determine the profile of students’ problem-solving skills in Senior High School 10 Palembang on environmental pollution material. The research method is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Participants were 30 students of 12th grade Science 3 of Senior High School 10 Palembang in 2022/2023, which selected based on purposive sampling. The instrument consisted of five items with the indicators of problem-solving skills, including identifying problems, reviewing problems, planning solutions, implementing plans that have been made, and evaluating. The data collected for the study also included results from the teacher interview as a supporting instrument. Data analysis was carried out by calculating the average achievement score of students' problem-solving skill indicators in the form of percentages. The results showed that the percentage of students' problem-solving skills was 30.67% in the lack category. The percentage of problem-solving skill indicators is identifying problems by 26.7%, collecting data and planning solutions by 40%, implementing plans made by 33.3%, and evaluating by 13.33%. The ability to solve problems can be improved by innovating teachers in choosing learning strategies such as using approaches, methods, models, and media that can improve problem-solving abilities, especially in learning biology.

Abstract

Education has an important role in developing individual potential and dealing with changes in science and technology. Biology learning involves complex abstract concepts and scientific facts, so that students experience difficulties in learning them. Learning problems can come from various sources such as students, teachers, books or media, and curriculum. The independent curriculum, which was introduced in the 2021/2022 academic year, requires students to have the ability to create solutions to problems based on local, national or global issues, as well as actively participate in achieving sustainable development goals. The new curriculum also has the potential to cause problems in learning. In this context, an analysis needs to be carried out to understand how biology is taught in the implementation of an independent curriculum. This study was conducted through observation of teachers and class X students at a high school in Bandung. Data was collected through interviews and questionnaires to teachers and students. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results of initial observations indicate that there are obstacles in the implementation of the independent curriculum, especially in the P5 project with the theme of diversity. Follow-up observations in this study focused on the analysis of biology learning in the independent curriculum. The findings show that students' interest and enthusiasm in learning biology is high, although the level of student mastery needs to be improved. The PjBL concept and model approach is the teacher's main preference, even though there are time constraints and project coordination outside of class hours. The use of technology is not optimal even though LMS and interactive multimedia are available. The implementation of the independent curriculum was good, but there were obstacles to learning outcomes, inefficient time allocation, and difficulties in working on projects. It is recommended to increase student completeness, maximize the use of technology, vary approaches, and improve the implementation of the independent curriculum with more specific goals and efficient time.

Abstract

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD adalah upaya mendorong masyarakat untuk menciptakan masyarakat yang tangguh dan berkelanjutan. Dalam upaya memperkenalkan permasalahan yang terjadi di lingkungan sekitar dan mendorong agar siswa konstruktif dan kreatif menghadapi tantangan tersebut, pendidikan menjadi salah satu solusinya yaitu dengan mengintegrasikan ESD ke dalam pembelajaran biologi. Untuk itu para guru dituntut mengembangkan pembelajaran yang mengintegrasikan ESD sehingga dapat menanamkan perilaku pro lingkungan siswa. Agar guru-guru dapat mengintegrasikan ESD ke dalam pembelajaran maka dilaksanakan pelatihan mendesain RPP berbasis ESD. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PkM) dilaksanakan dengan 2 pertemuan secara daring dan 1 pertemuan luring.  Kegiatan luring dilaksanakan di salah satu SMAN di Kabupaten Cirebon dengan  tahapan lesson study yang terdiri dari tahap plan-do-see. Dari beberapa RPP yang disusun secara berkelompok oleh guru Biologi, dipilihlah satu RPP berkaitan dengan tema makanan untuk dimplementasikan di kelas secara luring. Instrumen yang digunakan pada kegiatan PkM ini terdiri dari format observasi keterlaksanaan pembelajaran, dan angket respon guru. Hasil PkM menunjukkan pada tahap do dan see diperoleh hasil bahwa pembelajaran berbasis ESD berjalan dengan baik dan mendapat respon positif dari para guru observer dan siswa, guru-guru memperoleh contoh langsung RPP dan penerapan pembelajaran berbasis ESD yang menarik, menyenangkan, kreatif, merupakan hal baru, menginspirasi dan bermanfaat.Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is an effort to encourage the community to create a resilient and sustainable society. In an effort to introduce problems that occur in the surrounding environment and encourage students to be constructive and creative in facing these challenges, education is one of the solutions, namely by integrating ESD into learning.  For this reason, teachers are required to develop learning that integrates ESD so that they can instill pro-environmental behavior in students. In order for teachers to be able to integrate ESD into learning, training is carried out on designing ESD-based lesson plans. Community Service Activities are carried out in 2 separate meetings online and 1 offline meeting. Offline activities were carried out at one of the High Schools in Cirebon Regency with a lesson study stage consisting of a plan-do-see stage. From several teaching materials prepared in groups by the Biology teacher, one teaching material was chosen related to the theme of food for implemented in class offline. The instruments used in this activity consist of an observation format for learning implementation and a teacher response questionnaire. The results of the Community Service Activities show that at the do and see stages the results showed that ESD-based learning went well and received a positive response from observer teachers and students, teachers got direct examples of lesson plans and the application of interesting, fun, creative ESD-based learning. new, inspiring and beneficial.

Abstract

Compentencies that student should have in the 21st century are critical thinking, creative thinking, and higher order thinking, problem solving, collaboration, communication, creating and update skills, technological literacy skills, and contextual learning skills. Education for Sustainbale Development (ESD) is seen as transformative learing approach, an adaptive process that not only equips students with new knowledge but also promotes new ways of thinking. One of the things that must be considered by a teacher in achieving learing objectives is the selection of learing media.interactive learning media can increase students’ interest in learning and critical thinking skills. This research is a descriptive qualitative research to see the use of learning media and the implementation of ESD in Senior Hight School. Key words: analysis, learning media, interactive, ESD   ABSTRAK Kompetensi yang harus dimiliki di abad ke-21 yaitu berpikir kritis, berpikir kreatif, dan berpikir tingkat tinggi, memecahkan masalah, kolaborasi, komunikasi, keterampilan mencipta dan mebaharui, keterampilan literasi teknologi, dan keterampilan belajar kontekstual. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) dilihat sebagai pendekatan pembelajaran transformatif, proses adaptif yang tidak hanya melengkapi peserta didik dengan pengetahuan baru tetapi juga mempromosikan cara berpikir yang baru. Abstract

This research seeks to (1) obtain an overview concerning the biology learning process, (2) obtain an overview concerning the decision-making skill level of student. This research implemented qualitative method. The research subject consisted of 11th grade student of SMAN 1 Cihaurbeuti. The sample of the research was selected through snowball sampling. The data collection technique used was non-participant. The research instrument used in the study is a decision-making skill instrument. The research results revealed that decision-making skill of students are still at the low criteria.
