Abstract

Higher education has a very important role and is expected to be able to produce quality graduates to be able to bring the Indonesian nation to a more advanced direction and ready to answer challenges in the 21st century. The purpose of this study is to describe of how the content of higher education science in the 21st century. The research method used is SLR (Systematic Literature Review) with narrative review. The results show that the content of Higher Education Science in the 21st Century is designed by referring to the scope of Science, Learning Content Standards on SNPT, and the 21st Century Learning Framework

Abstract

This literature review examines the effect of artificial intelligence (AI) on science education, particularly in middle schools, and addresses both its limitations and future directions. This review critically assesses the potential implications of AI on science learning in middle school. It does so by examining 17 Scopus-indexed studies. The review reveals significant positive outcomes regarding how web-based AI-powered education affects students' learning outcomes, technological skills, and better decision-making. Despite these promising results, this article recognizes the possible dangers and difficulties associated with implementing AI in the classroom, such as limited access to technology in the region, reliance on AI, and ethical considerations when using AI-generated content. Solutions such as expanding technological knowledge and encouraging critical thinking are proposed to address these issues, anticipating the danger of bias and ethics toward AI. The conclusion of this review indicates that AI implementation in science learning has significant potential benefits despite limitations and challenges. In addition, this review also guides students, educators, and AI developers on optimizing AI's educational benefits.

Abstract

It is important for people absorbs and understand the information of how world their live in works, as human basic form of learning process, science process skills serve as the tools it is not used only by the scientist in the process of their discovery, but also by the people as tools to understand information about the world. The aim of this study was to profile students’ basic science process skills, to profile students’ integrated science process skills, and the profile of students’ science process based on gender. In gaining the data this study uses observation method in students’ laboratory activity. The results of the study indicated that students’ basic science process skills used in the study categorized in a high category with index value above 60%, and integrated science process skills indicators science process used in this study categorized into two categories with; low (23%) and very high (90.7%). There are no differences more than 24% in the profile students science process skills based on gender other than male students did outperform female students.

Abstract

The human mindset significantly affects the progress of Science and Technology. Drugs are one of the examples that result from human complex thought. Lack of understanding of this topic can lead to others experimenting with dangerous psychotropic drugs. Studying sciences using only textbooks will not be imprinted in student memories. Consequently, incorporating media can help the teacher to improve student understanding. This study was aimed to facilitate students' understanding and awareness of the topic of drugs. The ADDIE model is a guideline for developing good media suitable for the topic. The resulting media was judged by an expert, a lecturer, and a teacher, who proceeded to use Index Aiken. The students' responses are gathered using a questionnaire of 20 statements and a Likert scale. The result shows that the lecturer's judgment rater agreement index has a V = 0.9625, indicating a high media score. At the same time, the teacher’s judgment has a V = 0.7875, which indicates an average score for the media. The students' responses show that 56.67% of students strongly agree that the comic can facilitate them to understand and be more aware of drugs. The findings show that lecturers and teachers agree that digital comics have the potential to be educational resources that foster comprehension and awareness and help students learn about drugs.

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of the problem-solving model on students’ concept mastery and motivation in learning heat based on gender. The method which was used in this research was quasi-experiment with pretest-posttest design in girls and boys class. Data are collected from girl class (N=16) and boys class (N=16) of a 7th grade in one of a Bilingual Boarding School in Bandung. The quantitative data of this research was obtained through the objective test, while the qualitative data was gained through a questionnaire. Students’ motivation is measured by Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction (ARCS) Model. On the other hand, students’ concept mastery is measured based on Bloom’s taxonomy cognitive level through the objective test and being analyzed by using statistical software Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20.0 for Windows 8. The results show that overall concept mastery of girls and boys students have improved. However, girls students are higher achiever than boys. Overall, the problem-solving model makes an improvement in students’ concept mastery in both girls and boys. Thus, it indicates that the implementation of the problem-solving model in learning heat can improve students’ motivation and students’ conceptual understanding in secondary level.

Abstract

This research investigated the effect of brainstorming on students’ creative thinking skills in learning nutrition. The method that was used in this research is quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design. The sample was taken by purposive sampling technique where one group was assigned to the experimental group (n=25 students) and the other one group was assigned to the control group (n=25 students). The population was 7th-grade students in Islamic International School in Bandung. The quantitative data in this research was obtained from objective test and verbal TTCT (Torrance Test of Creative Thinking), while the qualitative data was obtained from observation sheet. The findings of the study showed that there are statistically significant differences between experimental and control group in creative thinking skills test with the score of 0.000. The result is in the favor of the experimental group, indicating the effectiveness of brainstorming in developing students’ creative thinking skills in learning nutrition.

Abstract

Teaching approaches in some school are still concentrating on memorizing. Teachers have to make the learning is meaningful for the students. One of the alternative tool is by using Brain-Based Learning. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Brain-Based Learning on students’ concept mastery in learning electric circuit for 8th-grade students. The method used in this research was experimental research. The research design that used is pretest and posttest design. The sample was taken by cluster random sampling technique. Participants were 49 students at one of International Secondary School in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Experiment group learn with Brain-Based Learning (N=26) while control group learn with lectured based learning (N=23). The results of students’ concept mastery that learned using Brain-Based Learning is better than students’ concept mastery that learned using lectured-based learning. The improvement of students’ concept mastery can be noticed by independent t-test with significant 0.003. Based on the analysis of students’ concept mastery results, the N-Gain score in experiment group is 0.43 which categorized as medium improvement while in control group is 0.25 which categorized as low improvement. Based on this results showed that Brain-Based Learning can be an alternative tool to improve students’ concept mastery significantly.

Abstract

This research was focused on investigating the effect of multiple intelligence -based learning as a learning approach towards students’ concept mastery and interest in learning matter. The one-group pretest-posttest design was used in this research towards a sample which was according to the suitable  situation of the research sample, n = 13 students of the 7th grade in Nusa Laila Puteri  School in Bandar Seri Begawan. The students’ concept mastery was measured using achievement test and given at the pretest and posttest, meanwhile the students’ interest level was measured using a Likert Scale for interest. Based on the analysis of the data, the result shows that the normalized gain was .61, which was considered as a medium improvement. in other words, students’ concept mastery in matter  increased after being taught using multiple intelligence-based learning. The Likert scale of interest shows that most students have a high interest in learning matter after being taught by multiple intelligence-based learning. Therefore, it is concluded that multiple intelligence – based learning helped in improving students’ concept mastery and gain students’ interest in learning matter.

Abstract

The transformation of higher education in Indonesia presents challenges and opportunities for universities to develop adaptive learning ecosystems. This study aims to analyze the Semester Learning Plans (RPS) of Basic Chemistry courses to evaluate their alignment with digital-era learning needs. Using a qualitative approach, the research involves document analysis of 19 RPS, focusing on learning methods and the integration of digital technology. Data were validated through questionnaires distributed to lecturers in charge of these courses. Results reveal that active learning methods, such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Project-Based Learning (PjBL), dominate, yet the integration of innovative technologies like virtual laboratories and software-based simulations remains limited. The study highlights the importance of adaptive learning strategies, digital literacy, and culturally responsive teaching to support global demands. New findings emphasize the need for systematic lecturer training and institutional support to enhance technological adoption in teaching. This research contributes to the development of more effective and inclusive learning environments, benefitting both science education and society.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are important to master in facing global competition. Biology learning in class must be oriented to improving critical thinking skills. Environmental change material is biology material that requires students to think critically in responding to environmental problems. One way to improve critical thinking skills is to use POE learning strategies that able to train students to be critical of problem. This research aims to provide an overview of students' critical thinking abilities on environmental change material which is improved through the POE learning strategy. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with the data used in analyzing the data from observations, teacher teaching modules, student responses, student worksheet answers, and interviews. The results of this research provide an overview of several shortcomings in implementing POE learning strategies in environmental change material so that students' critical thinking abilities are still low. These shortcomings include the observation stage which was not carried out optimally, the student worksheet stage did not train critical thinking skills, the environmental problem topic was too big, the learning allocation was not good, and the teacher's involvement in guiding students was still lacking.  With this research, a picture of the implementation of POE learning strategies in biology learning can be seen clearly so it is hoped that it can become good initial research for future research.Abstrak. Kemampuan berpikir kritis penting untuk dikuasai dalam menghadapi persaingan global. Pembelajaran biologi di kelas harus berorientasi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Materi perubahan lingkungan merupakan materi biologi yang menuntut siswa untuk berpikir kriris dalam menanggapi permasalahan lingkungan. Salah satu cara meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis adalah dengan menggunakan strategi pembelajaran POE  yang mampu melatihkan siswa kritis terhadap objek permasalahan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk  memberikan gambaran kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi perubahan lingkungan yang ditingkatkan melalui strategi pembelajaran POE. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan data yang digunakan dalam menganalisis adalah data hasil observasi, modul ajar guru, respon siswa, jawaban lembar kerja siswa, dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan gambaran tentang beberapa kekurangan dalam pelaksanaan strategi pembelajaran POE pada materi prubahan lingkungan sehingga kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa masih rendah. Kekurangan tersebut diantaranya adalah tahapan observe yang dilakukan tidak secara optimal dilakukan, tahapan lembar kerja siswa yang tidak melatihkan kemampuan berpikir kritis, topik permasalahan lingkungan yang terlalu besar, alokasi pembelajaran yang kurang baik, dan keterlibatan guru dalam membimbing siswa masih kurang.  Dengan adanya penelitian ini, gambaran pelaksanaan strategi pembelajaran POE dalam pembelajaran biologi dapat terlihat jelas sehingga diharapkan mampu menjadi penelitian awal yang baik bagi penelitian-penelitian yang akan datang.
