Abstract

Abstract This study examines the ethical concept of Islamic communication in the contemporary interpretation of Ali al-Harb toward QS. An-Nahl [16]:125. The main problem addressed in this study is the decline of ethical and dialogical values in modern da'wah communication, especially in digital media. Using a qualitative library research method with a hermeneutical and contemporary tafsir approach, this research explores how Ali al-Harb’s Naqd al-Nash (textual critique) provides a new understanding of the Qur’an that is reflective, critical, and contextual. The findings reveal that the principles of bil hikmah, mau‘izhah hasanah, and mujādalah billatī hiya ahsan form the foundation of Qur’anic-based communication ethics. These three principles construct a model of da'wah ethics that integrates intellectual, emotional, and moral dimensions, allowing da'wah practices to become more humanistic, moderate, and adaptive to the digital era. The study concludes that Ali al-Harb’s hermeneutical interpretation offers a relevant framework for developing ethical standards in contemporary Islamic communication.

Abstract

In the contemporary era, Muslim engagement with the Qur’an and Hadith faces increasingly complex and multidimensional challenges, including issues of gender, globalization, scientific advancement, and social transformation. Previous studies on Fazlur Rahman’s hermeneutical approach have largely been descriptive, while relatively few have examined the double movement method as a framework for a transformative and contextually relevant interpretation of the Qur’an. This study aims to analyze how Rahman’s double movement functions as a mechanism that bridges the historical-contextual origins of revelation with contemporary ethical and social realities. This research employs a qualitative design based on a library research approach. The primary data sources of this study consist of scholarly literature examining Fazlur Rahman’s thought, particularly his double movement hermeneutical approach and contemporary Qur’anic interpretation. The secondary data sources include studies on modern tafsir and relevant discourses in contemporary Islamic thought. Data were collected through systematic literature review and in-depth textual analysis, and analyzed using a descriptive-analytical method to critically examine the conceptual and methodological framework of Rahman’s thought. The findings indicate that the double movement operates through two dialectical stages: first, situating Qur’anic texts within their historical context to extract universal moral principles; and second, recontextualizing theseprinciples within contemporary social settings. Its application to Q.S. al-Mujādalah :11 demonstrates the method’s capacity to transform historically specific directives into ethically relevant guidance that promotes social inclusivity, respect for knowledge, and justice. The study concludes that Rahman’s double movement offers a robust hermeneutical framework for an ethical, contextual, and socially relevant interpretation of the Qur’an.

Abstract

Abstract

The phenomenon of poisoning in the Free Nutritious Food (MBG) program experienced by a number of school students in Indonesia has caused a critical discourse on educational governance, public health, and social ethics in the implementation of government programs. This poisoning incident that should not have occurred is an indicator of weaknesses in the surveillance system, policy implementation, and quality of food provided. To delve into this issue, the perspective of the renewal of Islamic thought from Muhammad Abduh can provide a relevant framework of analysis, especially related to moral responsibility, rationality, and social reform. Abduh, as an Islamic modernist figure, emphasized the importance of the use of common sense (al-'aql), social ethics, and educational reform as the foundation for the formation of a civilized society. In the context of the phenomenon of MBG poisoning, Abduh's thinking demands an integration between rationality and moral values in every public policy. He argued that the ummah and the government should not be trapped in a formalistic work pattern without ensuring substantive benefits for society. MBG programs, while well-intentioned to improve students' nutritional status and learning readiness, become counterproductive when the procurement, distribution, and oversight processes are not based on science, transparency, and accountability. Abduh emphasized that every policy must be based on the principles of maslahah (community welfare) and amanah (accountability), so that potential dangers such as poisoning must be anticipated through careful planning and scientific supervision. Abduh's thinking also assesses that education is not limited to academic aspects, but includes the formation of a healthy and safe social environment.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Sayyid Ahmad Khan, Reformis Pendidikan Islam, India, Pembaharuan Pendidikan   AbstractThe Arab nation established connections with Indian society through trade routes, including the Silk Road. These interactions resulted in various cultural influences, one of which was the sword forged using distinct Indian techniques. The spread of Islam in India began during the time of Muhammad bin Qasim, followed by Muhammad Ghazni, and reached its peak during the Mongol dynasty's rule. The glory of Islam began to decline when the British arrived and formed alliances with parts of Indian society. The resistance of Muslims to innovation, particularly in the field of education, became one of the main factors behind this decline. Sayyid Ahmad Khan argued that the revival of the Muslim community must begin with reforms in education and cooperation with non-Muslim nations. He believed that education was the primary means of producing intellectuals, promoting scientific development, and creating modern culture. He also emphasized that religious division and conflicts went against the teachings of Islam. Keywords: Sayyid Ahmad Khan, Islamic Education Reformer, India, Education Reform

Abstract

Abstract

This study discusses the position of women in the creation of humankind based on Amina Wadud's feminist hermeneutics perspective as an effort to critique classical interpretations of the Qur'an that tend to be gender biased. For centuries, the tradition of interpretation dominated by male exegetes has shaped a theological understanding that places women in a subordinate and inferior position, especially in the narrative of human creation. Amina Wadud, as one of the contemporary Muslim feminists, offers a feminist hermeneutics approach that emphasizes the importance of historical context, linguistic analysis, and women's experiences in understanding the Qur'anic text in a more fair and comprehensive manner. This study specifically examines Wadud's interpretation of QS. An-Nisa 'verse 1, which states that humans were created from nafsun wahidah (one soul). Wadud asserts that this concept indicates the equality of origin between men and women, thereby rejecting the patriarchal view that women were created from men's ribs as second-class beings. The research method used was qualitative with a literature study approach, through analysis of Amina Wadud's works and relevant academic literature. The results of the study show that Wadud's feminist hermeneutics not only serves as a critique of classical interpretations that are laden with patriarchal bias, but also provides a strong theological basis for the recognition of gender equality in Islam. This approach opens up space for women to play an equal role in the social, political, and religious spheres. Thus, Amina Wadud's thinking contributes significantly to building a more inclusive, egalitarian, and gender-equitable understanding of Islam in accordance with the universal values of the Qur'an.

Abstract

The rapid development of modern civilization and the complex social dynamics in Indonesia call for a change in the application of Islamic law. Deeply ingrained in ancient fiqh literature, the ideas of Islamic law often expose flaws in handling the complexity of modern dynamics, especially in the multicultural setting of Indonesia. This study aims to clarify the relevance of reconstructing Islamic law in line with the setting of fiqh inside the archipelago since it answers the problems of the modern day. And to critically analyze the dynamics of Islamic legal thought in Indonesia in responding to contemporary reality challenges through a reconstructive approach to classical fiqh towards Nusantara fiqh. Specifically, this research focuses on how local scholars reformulate fiqh principles in the context of Indonesia's pluralistic and dynamic social, political, and cultural landscape. Examining a range of ancient fiqh studies, the viewpoints of Nusantara academics, and contemporary debates in the field of Islamic law, this paper uses a library research technique and a qualitative-descriptive method. The results of this discussion show that Nusantara fiqh is more than just local adaptation of classical fiqh; rather, it is a contextual ijtihad process combining local knowledge, social reality, and the basic values of maqāḥid al-syarī'ah. With the existence of Nusantara fiqh, it enables a more inclusive, adaptive, and relevant Islamic law in reconstructing Islamic law itself according to the needs of Indonesian society in the modern era without neglecting the principles of Islamic Shari'ah itself. Therefore, this article explains the importance of a reform in Islamic law that can adapt to contemporary dynamics while still being rooted in authoritative Islamic scholarly principles.
