Abstract

Students' understanding of physics will increase along with learning during lectures, but thoughts on this understanding can be flexible and not always permanent, so it is necessary to explore other students' thoughts (resources) that may not have been discussed in previous research. This article focuses on the conceptual analysis of resources, namely the ideas they use in solving problems related to work-energy issues. This research aims to identify the resources used by physics students in work-energy reasoning as a work to explore students' new thoughts that have not been discussed in previous research. The research was conducted on 92 new physics department students in 2023 who took Basic Physics I lectures. Before the test was given, the lecturer gave a short review of the work-energy theorem to remind them of the knowledge they had learned in high school. The results of the research reveal that the resources that are widely used by students are (1) the concept of work in physics which is associated with the understanding of work in everyday contexts, namely as work/work/work, (2) in reasoning about motion phenomena involving potential energy and kinetic energy for students. directly apply the principle of conservation of mechanical energy. It is hoped that these findings will be useful input for lecturers in designing lectures on the topic of work-energy theorem based on resource theory or knowledge in pieces.

Abstract

This research aims to develop an instrument for assessing understanding distance and displacement concepts. Distance and Displacement Inventory (DDI) is an instrument constructed in multi-representations, including picture, table, graphic, mathematical, and verbal representations. This instrument is in multiple-choice format with ten questions to assess students' understanding of distance traveled and displacement. DDI development refers to R&D design by Borg&Gall and test development flowchart by Beichner. DDI was applied to 357 students in Indonesia who had taken introductory physics courses. Student answers were analyzed to determine the DDI's psychometric properties and structural analysis. The analysis results show that the DDI is adequate for assessing students' understanding of travel distance and displacement concepts. Meanwhile, the structural analysis of students' knowledge results shows that students have different perceptions of each question item according to their representation. Furthermore, students who understand the concept of distance traveled and displacement in one representation may need help understanding it correctly in another representation. This research implies the necessity of designing learning designs based on multi-representations and teaching students about the changes between these representations.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of Practice Rehearsal Pairs (PRPs) with Dynamic Video Media (DVM) on improving students' skills to interpret kinematics graphs in Physics subjects among junior high school students in Malang. This research is descriptive with a quantitative approach. Data collection was conducted through tests, observations with open questionnaires to three classes totaling 77 eighth-grade students in Malang City. Semi-structured interview participant selection was carried out to obtain detailed and in-depth answers from the students' perspectives. The instrument used to explore kinematics graph interpretation abilities consisted of 10 kinematics graph questions taken from The Test of Understanding Graphs in Kinematics (TUG-K). The research results show that eighth-grade junior high school students in Malang have a low ability to interpret kinematics graphs, with an average initial exploration ability score of 54.6. The difficulties experienced by students include reading graphs through slope/gradient, area under the graph, and direct graph reading. The PRPs learning model with DVM can improve the ability to interpret kinematics graphs of junior high school students. In the three experimental classes, there was an increase in initial exploration ability scores and final ability test scores. The non-parametric test results using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test show that all three classes have a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, thus it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the initial and final abilities of students in the experimental classes before and after the implementation of PRPs and the use of DVM. This indicates that the PRPs learning model with DVM can improve the ability to interpret kinematics graphs of junior high school students.

Abstract

The desire to live in a more modern direction is evident in today's tribal traditions in Indonesia. The Samin community in Klopoduwur Village, Banjarejo District, Blora Regency is one of the tribes experiencing this condition. This study aims to determine modernization in the life of the Samin community in Klopoduwur Village, Banjarejo District, Blora Regency. This research includes a qualitative-descriptive study. The data in this study are in the form of utterances by predetermined informants, namely village officials, traditional leaders, and the general public; writings containing explanations about modernization and life of the Samin people. The research data were collected using interviews, observation, documentation, reading and note-taking techniques. The analysis model used in this paper is descriptive. The results of the study show that the social changes that occur in the Samin Klopoduwur community can be seen in the ideological, educational, economic, and political dimensions. Even though it seems that it is very binding for its adherents to continue to carry out Samin's teachings, currently, there is a relaxation of this obligation by the traditional elders of Samin Klopoduwur. This desire for modern life tends to be seen in the young Samin community in Klopoduwur.

Abstract

Generally, discussion about diagonalization of matrices in linear algebra is a matrix over the field. This research presents the diagonalization of matrices over commutative rings. Previous studies have explained the diagonalization of the matrix over a commutative ring, but there are some shortcomings in it. Therefore, this paper will present a matrix diagonalization process that could overcome these shortcomings. This research proposes a method for diagonalization matrices where the characteristic polynomial splits completely over the image of a ring homomorphism. Furthermore, the diagonalization is done over ring localization, so that there are more commutative ring matrices which can be diagonalized in this way. Meanwhile, the sufficient condition for a matrix which can be diagonalized in this thesis is when the determinant of the matrix whose columns are the eigenvectors is regular. Furthermore, to show this diagonalization method applies in general, given a special matrix n × n which satisfies the sufficient condition. Abstract

Vectors in kinematics are rarely highlighted in high school. Even though vectors are the language used by physicists. This study aims to determine the validity and reliability of the test instrument developed and to explore the ability of vectors in kinematics of high school students. The method used in this research is research and development of the 4D model. The developed test instrument for vectors in kinematics is in the form of multiple choice with an arrow direction accompanied by a command to describe the vector and explain the reason for choosing the vector direction. The test instrument covers one- and two-dimensional kinematics topics by highlighting the concepts of velocity and acceleration. Two-dimensional kinematics is divided into constant velocity and increasing velocity. This test instrument consists of thirteen questions with an average point-biserial coefficient of 0.493 and KR-20 of 0.784. Then, this test instrument was used to measure the vector ability in kinematics of high school students with a sample size of sixty-seven students. It was found that most high school students had difficulty in acceleration as two-dimensional vector, acceleration as one-dimensional vector, and velocity as one-dimensional vector with few obstacles. Learning with the method of integrating vectors in kinematics has the possibility to solve this problem.
