Abstract

Background: Asthma is a disease characterized by narrowing and inflammation of the respiratory tract which results in shortness of breath (difficulty breathing). Data from (WHO, 2020) shows that the prevalence of asthma in 2019 was 262 million people and caused 455,000 deaths worldwide. The aim of the research is to determine the effectiveness of the deep breathing relaxation frequency technique and semi-Fowler position in the Lung Room of RSU Mayjen H.A Talib, Sungai Full City in 2023. Methods: This type of research is analytical descriptive with a quasi-experimental research design with a one group pre test – post test design technique on patients. asthma. The respiratory frequency assessment was carried out 2 (two) times, namely before (pretest) intervention and after (posttest) intervention. The sample taken by purposive sampling was 21 respondents. Results: The results of this research were that there was an influence of deep breathing techniques and the semi-Fowler position on asthma patients at the H.A Talib maijen hospital, Sungai Full City in 2023 with the Wilcoxon test result being a p value of 0.000. Conclusion: The conclusion of this research is that there is effectiveness of deep breathing relaxation techniques and the semi-fowler position on respiratory frequency. The results of this research can be input for nursing interventions so that nurses provide education to patients and families on how to carry out deep breathing techniques and adjust the semi-Fowler position correctly to reduce shortness of breath in asthma patients

This number tends to increase during the pandemic that give the changes in the order of life and education. The condition requires good attention and supervision from parents so that the use of gadgets can be controlled and does not affect children's development. This research aims to determine The Correlation between Parenting Patterns Toward Social Emotional Development of Gadget Children Users in Early Childhood at Al-Azhar Kindergarten Bukittinggi. Methods: This type of this research was descriptive analytic with a cross sectional study approach. It has been carried out on September - November 2020 with a population of all parents of early childhood in Al-Azhar Kindergarten,  they were 60 respondents. The data were collected through questionnaires and it was analyzed by univariate analysis and bivariate analysis. Results: The results showed that 81.7% of respondents were democratic gadget parenting style and 63.3% of respondents had good social emotional development. The results of statistical analysis showed that there was a relationship between parenting patterns and social emotional development of early childhood who used the gadgets with p=0.014. Conclusiona: It is concluded that parenting style is significantly related to social emotional development of gadget early childhood users. Therefore, it is expected for parents to do good parenting (in this case democratic) in terms of the use of gadgets in early childhood.

The aims of this study to determine the effect of secondary prevention on the motivation of hypertension clients in controlling blood pressure. Conducted from February to March 2018 in the Neurology Room and Internation of RSUD Prof. Dr. MA. Hanafiah Batusangkar BC Tanah. This type of research was an experiment with a Quasi Experiment Design Nonequivalent Control Group design. The study population was moderate hypertension patients aged 18-59 years, taken by purposive sampling as many as 10 intervention groups and 10 control groups. Bivariate analysis using the Mann-Whitney test. Statistical tests show there is a secondary prevention effect on the motivation of hypertensive clients in controlling blood pressure. p value = 0.012 (p value <0.05). The average value of the motivation of the intervention group was 69.0, SD 8.313,  Mean Rank 13.8 and the control group 58.70, SD 3.683,  Mean Rank 7.20. It can be concluded that there is an effect of the secondary prevention implementation on the motivation of hypertensive clients in controlling blood pressure. It is expected that nurses in hospitals and health centers to be able to use secondary prevention as one strategy in increasing the motivation of clients to control blood pressure. Keywords: motivation, secondary prevention, blood pressure

The population was all students of class IX. They were 167 students.  By using quota Sampling technique, 86 students were chosen as the samples. The data were collected through questionnaires. Then, it was analyzed by univariate analysis was performed to determine the frequency distribution and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square correlation test. The results showed that (89.5%) respondents with the use of gadgets were at risk category, namely> 2 hours a day and (58.1%) respondents were at risk of experiencing changes in behavior. Then, the result of this research obtained that there was a significant relationship between the use of gadgets and changes in adolescent behavior with a p value = 0.031 and an OR value = 5.793. In short, it is concluded that there was a relationship between excessive use of gadgets and changes in adolescent behavior at SMP Negeri 5 Bukittinggi in 2021. Abstract

Background: Asthma remains a global health burden, marked by recurrent respiratory symptoms that significantly affect quality of life. Non-pharmacological nursing interventions such as deep breathing and semi-Fowler positioning have been increasingly recommended to improve respiratory function in patients with asthma. However, few studies have compared the relative effectiveness of these two interventions within a single experimental framework. Purpose: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of deep breathing exercises and the semi-Fowler position in reducing respiratory rate among asthma patients. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted involving 70 asthma patients, divided into two intervention groups: deep breathing (n = 35) and semi-Fowler position (n = 35). Participants were recruited using purposive sampling based on defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data on respiratory rate were collected before and after intervention using direct observation, recorded in breaths per minute. Paired and independent t-tests were used for statistical analysis with a significance level of α < 0.05.Result: In the deep breathing group, the mean respiratory rate decreased significantly from 29.03 ± 2.20 to 18.29 ± 1.56 breaths/minute (mean difference = 10.74; p < 0.001). Similarly, in the semi-Fowler group, the respiratory rate reduced from 28.43 ± 1.98 to 18.29 ± 1.66 breaths/minute (mean difference = 10.14; p < 0.001). However, the post-intervention comparison between the two groups showed no statistically significant difference (p = 1.00).Conclusion: Both deep breathing and semi-Fowler positioning are effective in reducing respiratory rate among asthma patients. These findings suggest that nurses can apply either method based on patient preference and clinical context, supporting individualized, evidence-based respiratory care.

Abstract

Background: Indigenous populations experience disproportionately high rates of cardiovascular disease (CVD), yet their encounters with healthcare systems often involve cultural disconnection and marginalization. Despite increasing use of terms such as cultural safety and competence, the specific phenomenon of cultural disruption—particularly in hospital-based cardiac care—remains underexplored and poorly defined in nursing literature.Purpose: This concept analysis aims to explore and clarify the meaning of cultural disruption as it relates to Indigenous patients undergoing cardiovascular care, with a focus on implications for nursing practice. Methods: Walker and Avant’s eight-step method of concept analysis was employed to identify the defining attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents of cultural disruption. Data were synthesized from peer-reviewed articles published within the last 10 years, including qualitative studies and Indigenous health frameworks relevant to cardiac care. Results: Cultural disruption is characterized by disconnection from cultural identity and practices, invalidation of Indigenous knowledge systems, breakdown in relational and community support, spiritual alienation, and erosion of trust in healthcare systems. Antecedents include colonization, systemic racism, and biomedical dominance, while consequences include treatment non-adherence, patient disengagement, and poor health outcomes. Empirical referents include patient-reported cultural safety assessments, narrative interviews, and clinical documentation audits. Conclusion: Cultural disruption is a distinct and critical concept in understanding health inequities experienced by Indigenous cardiac patients. Recognizing this phenomenon enables nurses to implement culturally responsive strategies that uphold spiritual, relational, and community-based dimensions of care. Future research is needed to validate tools that assess cultural disruption and evaluate outcomes of culturally grounded interventions in cardiovascular nursing.
