Abstract

Science education in schools faces various challenges, such as the dominance of teacher-centered lecture methods, a lack of integration between theory and practice, and limited learning facilities. These issues hinder students from developing critical thinking, collaboration, and adaptability to modern demands. This study aims to develop a Problem-Project Based Learning (P2BL) model as a solution to address these challenges. The model integrates the strengths of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Project-Based Learning (PjBL) to create contextual, practical learning experiences that encourage critical thinking among students. A Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE framework is employed to ensure the systematic development of the model. The P2BL model consists of five main components: syntax, reaction principles, social system, support system, and instructional as well as accompanying impacts. The syntax of this model includes stages such as problem definition, experimentation, planning, presentation, and evaluation, supported by multi-directional interactions between instructors and students, as well as collaboration among students. The research findings indicate that implementing the P2BL model enhances academic abilities, practical skills, and the development of attitudes such as teamwork, responsibility, and time management. With its relevance to the demands of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, the P2BL model offers a more interactive, effective, and adaptive learning alternative to improve the quality of Science education in schools.

Abstract

Project-based learning (PjBL) was one of the learning strategies that can develop students' scientific skills in the 21st century. This study used a qualitative approach by analyzing several articles published in biology education journals in Indonesia from 2015–2022, focusing on studying the implementation of project-based learning on biological materials. The current study reveals that there has been a decline in the number of publications over the past four years. Among these studies, the dominant research design is quantitative. In addition, high school students and environmental content were the most targeted subjects and content, respectively. ANOVA and tests are the most commonly used data analysis techniques and instruments. Meanwhile, the most widely measured skills as learning outcomes are critical and creative thinking. Based on what this study found, a number of suggestions have been made to do more research on PjBL and to test other 21st century skills. Abstract

The Acid Base E-Module based on Guided Discovery Learning (GDL) has been validated and tested for practicality, but its effectiveness and impact on students' reading and numeracy literacy have not yet been tested. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of using e-modules on improving reading and numeracy literacy among Phase F students at SMAN 3 Bukittinggi. This research is a quasi-experimental study using a non-equivalent control group design. The research population included Phase F students at SMAN 3 Bukittinggi, with samples from classes XI F 3 and XI F 4 selected using purposive sampling. This study uses test instruments to evaluate students' reading literacy and numeracy skills. Data analysis employs N-gain tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests. The study results show that the average N-gain for reading literacy in the experimental class (0.52) is higher than that of the control class (0.5). The normality and homogeneity tests showed a normal and homogeneous distribution in reading literacy. The hypothesis test using the t-test produced a tcount value (2.0032) that was greater than the ttable value (1.9955). The average N-gain in the experimental class for numeracy literacy (0.36) was also higher than that of the control class (0.26). Normality and homogeneity tests produced a normal and non-homogeneous distribution in numeracy literacy, and the t’ test produced a t’count value (3.5492) greater than the ttable value (2.0058). These findings indicate that the application of the acid-base e-module with the GDL approach has a significant impact on reading and numeracy literacy.
