Abstract

Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven the need for learning innovation, including for elementary school teachers who are required to create an interactive learning environment. Training on the use of the digital media Quizizz at SDN Inpres Perumnas aims to improve teachers' skills in integrating technology into the teaching and learning process. Teachers are expected to master the practical use of the application while understanding learning strategies to encourage student motivation and engagement. The activity was carried out in five stages: preparation in the form of coordination and preparation of materials, counseling on the importance of interactive digital media, hands-on training from account creation to question preparation, mentoring in classroom implementation, and demonstrations of learning with students. Evaluation was carried out through pretests, posttests, and practical observations. The results showed that teachers were able to follow all stages well. The average pretest score was only 45%, indicating teachers' limited understanding of Quizizz. After the training, the average posttest score increased to 85%. The highest increase occurred in understanding the superior features (from 30% to 90%) and the advantages of Quizizz compared to conventional quizzes (from 35% to 88%). Basic understanding of the purpose of use also increased from 40% to 90%. The primary benefit of this activity was increased teacher readiness to design interactive learning and broadened knowledge about the use of digital media for evaluation. The conclusion of this activity confirmed that the Quizizz training not only strengthened teacher competency but also opened up opportunities for school community involvement in supporting technology-based learning transformation

Abstract

Despite the integration of Science and Social Studies (IPAS) under Indonesia's Kurikulum Merdeka, classroom practices remain predominantly teacher-centered, resulting in low student engagement and inadequate achievement of minimum mastery criteria. This study examined the effectiveness of inquiry-based learning in addressing these pedagogical challenges. Employing a classroom action research design, this study was conducted with 28 fifth-grade students at SD Inpres 3 Tondo, Palu, across two iterative cycles. Data were collected through systematic classroom observations using structured protocols and achievement tests validated through expert review (content validity index = 0.89, KR-20 reliability = 0.82). Analysis examined teacher instructional quality, student engagement patterns, and learning outcomes across cycles. Implementation of inquiry-based learning produced substantial improvements across all measured dimensions. Teacher instructional quality advanced from 70% to 90%, while student engagement increased from 59% to 75%. Most notably, classical learning mastery improved dramatically from 78% in Cycle I to 96% in Cycle II, with classical absorption rising from 74% to 89%, indicating significant conceptual understanding gains. Inquiry-based learning effectively enhances IPAS learning outcomes by fostering active participation, critical thinking, and collaborative knowledge construction. These findings validate inquiry pedagogy as a viable approach for implementing integrated curriculum within Indonesian elementary education, providing empirical support for constructivist learning principles in authentic classroom contexts.

Abstract

Objective: Primary education plays a strategic role in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda, especially in shaping environmental awareness and improving students' well-being from an early age. However, the integration of SDGs in learning practices still faces structural and pedagogical challenges at the school level. This study aims to examine the implementation of SDGs values in primary school learning and analyze how education quality management contributes to the effectiveness of the implementation. Method: This study used a qualitative approach with a collective case study design involving 15 primary schools in Palu City. Data were collected through observation, interviews and documentation, then analyzed thematically. Results: Results showed that schools with structured quality management systems and participatory leadership were more successful in internalizing SDGs values in learning, particularly through thematic activities and the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5). The impact is seen in the improvement of students' environmentally conscious behavior and social empathy. This research confirms the importance of a systemic approach that integrates pedagogical and managerial aspects in supporting the achievement of SDGs at the basic education level. Novelty: The findings contribute to the theory of sustainable education and offer practical implications for education policy at the local and national levels

Abstract

Violence in elementary schools, particularly verbal and bullying behavior, remains a persistent issue in Palu City, Indonesia. Weak supervision, inadequate classroom management, and the normalization of violence contribute to an unsafe learning environment. This study evaluates the effectiveness of classroom management strategies in preventing student violence. A convergent mixed-methods approach was employed involving 30 participants (teachers and students) from three elementary schools in Palu. Quantitative data were gathered through structured questionnaires, while qualitative data were obtained via interviews and observations. Instrument reliability was verified using Cronbach's alpha (0.60), and thematic analysis was used for qualitative insights. Findings show that 86.7% of students had witnessed or experienced violence, with verbal abuse (46.7–63.6%) and bullying (20.7–27.3%) being the most common. Violence predominantly occurred in the schoolyard (90.9%), indicating weak supervision. Common teacher practices included establishing rules (90.9%) and reprimanding violators (93.5%), though only 45.2% incorporated conflict management strategies. Despite this, 82% of teachers rated their classroom management as effective or very effective. Although teachers are proactive in rule enforcement, gaps remain in conflict resolution and empathetic communication. The study highlights the need to shift from reactive to proactive management by integrating character education, positive reinforcement, and restorative practices. A whole-school approach involving consistent supervision, teacher training, and inclusive policies is essential to foster a safe and supportive school culture.

Abstract

Teachers play crucial roles in enhancing elementary students' learning motivation, yet limited empirical evidence exists regarding practical implementation of motivational strategies in specific classroom contexts. This qualitative descriptive study investigated teachers' roles in enhancing learning motivation among fifth-grade students at SD Inpres 1 Kawatuna, Palu City, Indonesia. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured teacher interviews, and student questionnaires (N=26) during the 2024/2025 academic year. Thematic analysis of qualitative data and descriptive statistics of quantitative data were employed. Findings revealed that teachers enacted five interconnected roles: inspirator (providing learning strategy guidance), motivator (offering positive reinforcement and rewards), facilitator (accommodating diverse learning styles), guide (delivering individualized support), and classroom manager (creating conducive environments). These practices resulted in 88.46% of students demonstrating good to excellent motivation levels across six indicators: persistence in completing tasks, resilience in facing difficulties, interest in diverse problems, preference for independent work, resistance to boredom, and ability to maintain opinions. However, 11.53% of students exhibited only fair motivation, particularly in autonomous learning behaviors. The study contributes by bridging theory-practice gaps in motivation literature and documenting context-specific implementations of motivational principles. Implications include emphasizing comprehensive teacher role training in professional development programs and conducting longitudinal research examining long-term motivational development.
