Abstract

Adolescent reproductive health knowledge at this time is not optimal. Based on observations at SMAN 1 Batang Anai, students' knowledge is limited to bathing regularly, exchanging underwear after bathing and for women changing pads only 3 times a day. besides, there are cases of premarital pregnancy and students who are suspected of liking the same sex. These cases is inseparable from parental supervision of adolescent attitudes and behavior that are  harm for adolescent reproductive health. The purpose of this study is to describe the knowledge of high school students and parents about adolescent reproductive health at SMAN 1 Batang Anai. This research is a descriptive study with  118 students  as populations and 24 students’ parents which are determined by propotionate stratified random sampling, and also test is given to measure their knowledge. this research uses simple regression analysis and path analysis. Generally the result shows that students’ and parents’ knowledge are enough, based on age, gender and majors of students’ majors as well as the level of education of parents including physical changes in adolescents 73.72%, maintaining adolescent reproductive health 53.51%, causes and effects from disorders and reproductive disorders 68.64% and PMS  and modes of transmission 64.19%. However, parents’ knowledge about maintaining reproductive health are less with 40.17%. Based on the data, it can be concluded that the knowledge of students and parents at SMAN 1 Batang Anai is not optimal.

Abstract

Traditional medicine is one of the drugs used by the community to be one of the efforts to treat diseases. One of them is Diabetes Mellitus (DM). DM is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia which results in an increase in free radicals in the cell. DM treatment is quite expensive so an alternative drug is needed. One of them is Tithonia diversifolia A. Gray. This study used a completely randomized design, consisting of 1 control, 4 treatments (P1: Only alloxan induced), P2: Alloxan 65 mg / kg BB, P3: Metformin 65 mg / kg BB, P4: Boiled leaves of moon leaves 24.6 mg / 10 ml and P4: Moon flower leaves boiled water 49.1 mg / 10 ml. The parameters observed were blood sugar in male mice and the number of cells in the islands of Langerhans before and after being given boiled leaves of moon flowers and metformin. Data were analyzed using ANOVA then continued with DMRT test with a significant difference of 5%. The results showed that administration of boiled kembang bulan leaves and metformin for 7 days could reduce blood sugar levels in mice and accelerate the regeneration of pancreatic cells. The most significant impact is the treatment with the highest dose, namely P4 (Moon leaf leaves boiled water 49.1 mg / 10 ml).

Abstract

Uric acid (gout) caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood (hyperuricemia). Inflammation caused by uric acid crystals cause pain, stiffness, and swelling in the joints. Gout medication allopurinol commonly consumed ie the mechanism of action as an inhibitor of xanthine oxidase, but this drug side effects such as nausea and diarrhea. The skin of the mangosteen fruit contains xanthones and flavonoids compounds were allegedly able to lower uric acid levels. This study aims to determine the effect of mangosteen peel extract (Garcinia mangostana L.) on uric acid levels in mice (Mus musculus L. Swiss Webster) Males. Research has been conducted in December-January 2016 Biology Laboratory of the Department of Biological Science UNP. This research is experimental method completely randomized design (CRD) ie 4 treatments and 6 replications. Such treatment 0 g / kg (Control / P1), 0.2 g / kg (P2), 0.4 g / kg (P3), 0.6 g / kg (P4). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and using Paired Sample T-Test. Parameters measured were basal uric acid levels before and after treatment. Data taken after 4 days of the treated mice. The results were obtained uric acid levels in mice after treatment are: P1 (Control) 6.43 mg / dL, P2 5.65 mg / dL, P3 3.9 mg / dL, and P4 3.7 mg / dL. Based on the results of this study concluded that the mangosteen rind extract has no effect on uric acid levels in male mice. Keywords: uric acid (gout), xanthine oxidase, hyperuricemia, an antioxidant.

Abstract

Hyperglicemia in DM Type will induce macrofag to produce cytokin proinflamation TNF-α. High levels of TNF-α in DM Type 2 can lead to more severe insulin resistance and become involved in endothelial dysfunction which lead to complications of the disease. This research aims to know differences between TNF-α level in DM type 2 controlled and uncontrolled. This research used obervational analizing method and cross sectional study comparative approach. Blood samples are grouped to 35 patient DM type 2 controlled and uncontrolled in the medicinal treatment in Padang State University polyclinic. The level of serum TNF-α will be examined in Biomedical Laboratory FKUA using ELISA method. TNF-α level in the diabetes type 2 controlled on average 7,55 ± 0,43 pg/ml whereas uncontrolled on average 149,28 ± 26,82 pg/ml. The Mann-Whitney test showed a p value < 0,001. There are significant differences in the levels of TNF-α in patients with DM type 2 controlled and uncontrolled. Key Words : Diabetes Mellitus type 2 controlled and uncontrolled, TNF-α

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) Type 2 is a metabolic disorder disease characterized by an increase in blood sugar (hyperglycemia) due to decreased insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells or intrusion of insulin function. Hyperglycemia tends to cause oxidative stress where free radical formation exceeds the body's antioxidant defense system resulting in microvascular and macrovascular disorders. Some ethnic groups have a tendency to develop type 2 diabetes mellitus because of differences in diet, lifestyle and physical activity. In addition, ethnicity is also suspected to affect the levels of IL-6. This study aims to determine the correlation of fasting blood sugar levels with IL-6 levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus ethnic Minangkabau. This research is cross sectional comparative research design. The subjects of two groups: DM type 2 and control group (non-DM) who went to the Polyclinic of State University of Padang, Minangkabau ethnic and each consisted of 35 people. Blood glucometer examination with blood sample and IL-6 measurement using ELISA technique with serum sample. Fasting blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 DM Minangkabau ethnic average 286.2 ± 80.46 mg / dl while non DM 101.26 ± 9.70 mg / dl. Mean IL-6 levels in type 2 DM patients were 16.23 ± 30.12 pg / ml while non-DM of 3.41 ± 1.91 pg / ml was an increase of about 4.7 in patients with type 2 DM Compared to non-ethnic minority of Minangkabau with p value <0,05. The result of research that have been done there is a positive correlation between fasting blood sugar level with IL -6 in patients with Type 2 DM Minangkabau ethnic with r value = 0,44 at p <0.05 which means interpretation of medium correlation strength. Keywords: Type 2 DM, IL-6, ethnic Minangkabau
