Abstract

The purpose of this activity is to provide scientific information and knowledge concerning to the update of the immune system topic which is closely related to COVID-19. This activity provides health information toward science and biology teachers regarding efforts to maintain immunity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers need to develop the learning process, so that teachers are able to present learning that is innovative, interactive, interesting, meaningful, and fun. The approachment taken by providing training in the case method learning, case method provides stimulation to teachers on how to create development in the learning process. This activity took place in Aka Barayun, Harau, Lima Puluh Kota regency. This activity was attended by 50 teachers of Science and Biology Lima Puluh Kota regency. Most of the teacher's agree with the implementation of the case method as an innovative learning method integrated with the COVID-19 pandemic phenomenon. This case method training can increase teacher knowledge in developing learning method. Based on the results of the pre-test questionnaire given to teachers before the training began, 64% of teachers did not know the case method learning. Most of teacher 57% strongly agree and the rest of the teacher 43% agree to integrate cases in the learning process as the starting point of the learning process.

Abstract

The most-high matter of COVID-19 in West Sumatera Province was found in Padang City. Some researchers argue that the environment greatly influences contagion of COVID-19. This research aims to anatomize the COVID-19 climate environment in Padang City in the period March 16th 2020 – May 20th 2022. The study used secondary data in the form of COVID-19 surveillance data, namely the number of patients who were confirmed positive for COVID-19 from the Padang City Health Office and the climate from the Meteorology and Climatology Agency of Padang City. Weather elements include maximum temperature (°C), minimum temperature (°C), average temperature (°C), humadity (%), and rainfall (mm). Data analysis used pearson correlation. The result of the study indicated that minimum temperature and rainfall had a significant relationship to positive matters of COVID-19 in Padang City which were marked with p-values of 0.004 and 0.

Abstract

Cinnamon is a spice commodity that contains chemical compounds and bioactive components that have the potential to be developed as medicinal raw materials in the pharmaceutical industry. Biological activity in cinnamon can increase and stimulate the body's immune system. This study aims to present a summary of the literature review to unify the overall information on bioactivity and chemical compound content in cinnamon. The research method uses the literature review method with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) meta-analysis approach. The literature review of original research articles shows a variety of properties found in cinnamon plants because of alleged chemical compounds including cinnamaldehyde, phenolics, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, polyphenols, triterpenoids as potential bioactivities, namely immunomodulator, antifungal, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antidiabetic and A-Glucosidase enzyme activity. From some research results, cinnamon plant parts have been shown to have many pharmacological properties that it can increase the productivity of drugs using natural ingredients

Abstract

Rice snails are one of the pests that have the potential to cause high losses to rice plants. Rice snail mucus contains glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans, glycoprotein enzymes, copper peptides, metal ions, collagen, elastin, glycolic acid, allantoin, antimicrobial peptides and vitamin C. Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is one of the vitamins needed by the body that functions as a help process in the body's metabolism. To determine vitamin C levels can be done using the UV-VIS spectrophotometry method with a wavelength of 260 nm. This study aims to determine vitamin C levels from rice snail mucus concentration of 100% and rice snail mucus concentration of 50%. This study is descriptive quantitative, analyzing vitamin C levels obtained from a spectrophotometer can be seen from the absorbance of rice snail mucus. Based on the results of research obtained from the analysis of vitamin C levels of rice snail mucus, the concentration of 100% is 2,372. While vitamin C levels in rice snail mucus concentration of 50% were obtained at 0.911. So it can be concluded that there are vitamin C levels in rice snail mucus with a concentration of 100% greater absorbance than 50% rice snail mucus.

Abstract

Mining business activities in addition to producing mineral and coal production, also produce solid and liquid hazardous and toxic waste materials that have the potential to pollute the environment and can reduce the quality of human health and other living things mining. PT Semen Padang as the holder of a Production Operation Mining Business Permit (IUP OP), in addition to producing mining commodities in the form of limestone, silica, and clay, also has the potential to produce hazardous and toxic waste materials from mining activities, especially from the results of activities in mining workshops, both solid waste and liquid waste. For this reason, it is necessary to properly manage hazardous and toxic waste materials. PT Semen Padang has now carried out hazardous and toxic waste disposal by temporarily storing the hazardous and toxic waste it produces which is stored in a temporary storage area for hazardous and toxic waste materials.

Abstract

Moringa oleifera (Moringa leaves) is often used in herbal medicine. Many compounds in Moringa leaves such as flavonoids, vitamins, and alkaloids. This article was written with the aim of knowing the effectiveness of Moringa leaves against diabetes mellitus. The method used is a literature review combined with a search for related sources on Google Scholar for 2012 to 2022. The results of the literature review of the articles carried out can be concluded that the effectiveness of Moringa leaves has a significant effect on the insulin hormone. This is because Moringa leaves contain flavonoids, vitamins, and alkaloids which are rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants contained in Moringa plants can prevent lipid peroxidation by peroxy radicals. In conclusion, Moringa leaves can prevent diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and discuss the implementation of Islamic values in physical education and sports to foster the character of Ulul Albab. The research methodology employed in this study is a literature review, where relevant literature regarding the implementation of Islamic values in physical education and sports, as well as the character development of Ulul Albab, is collected and analyzed. The findings reveal that physical education and sports can serve as effective platforms for shaping the character of Ulul Albab by integrating Islamic values into every sporting activity. Islamic values such as honesty, discipline, hard work, and responsibility can be effectively incorporated into sports activities as means to cultivate strong character traits. Thus, the implementation of Islamic values in physical education and sports can be considered as an alternative strategy in shaping the character of Ulul Albab, individuals who possess good Islamic morality and ethics. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the significance of implementing Islamic values in physical education and sports as a means to enhance the quality and moral character of Ulul Albab.

Abstract

Sugar is one of the main energies for the body, but do not consume it in excess, because it causes blood sugar levels to increase, this condition is called hyperglycemia. Gambir contains beneficial antioxidants such as catechins. Catechins are polyphenolic compounds belonging to the flavonoid group. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of gambier catechins on blood sugar levels in hyperglycemic mice. This study is an experimental study with a completely randomized design using 25 samples of male mice for 42 days with two control groups and three treatment groups, namely the negative control was not treated, and the positive control was given glibenclamide after sucrose induction, P1, P2, and P3 were taken with catechins different concentrations after sucrose induction. Checking blood sugar levels using a glucometer (Easy Touch). Data were analyzed by one-way of variance (ANOVA) followed by a DMRT follow-up test at a 5% level. The results showed that gambier catechins had an effect (p<0.05) on blood sugar levels in hyperglycemic mice. The most effective gambier catechin administration was at P2 (80% catechin concentration).

Abstract

A toddler who is stunting likely has a long-term nutritional problem since they are shorter than other children their age. Stunting is a problem that is brought on by environmental sanitation issues, such as water quality does not meet requirements. The purpose of this study is to summarize the existing research on the topic of the association between stunting and water quality in Indonesia. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) meta-analysis strategy is used in the study process together with the literature review methodology. If drinking water satisfies physical, microbiological, chemical, and radiological standards, it is safe for human consumption. Good water is defined as being no cloudy, tasteless, odorless, and colorless based on the physical criteria. Toddlers who drink clean water that is turbid or colored often get diarrhea. From some research results, there is a relationship between water quality and stunting in Indonesia. Toddlers will contract infectious infections that result in stunting if the drinking water quality does not match the standards.

Abstract

Padang City is the epicenter of the spread of COVID-19 in West Sumatra with the highest cases of COVID-19 as a result of which infectious waste in hospitals has increased. This study aims to build a model for controlling hospital infectious waste in Padang City based on a dynamic system, and formulate scenarios and policy recommendations for controlling hospital infectious waste in Padang City based on a dynamic system. This type of research is quantitative with a system dynamic approach. The research location is in Padang City from March 2020 – July 2022. Descriptive data is presented in the form of tables and graphs. Dynamic system modeling used Powersim Studio 10. The infectious waste control model for hospitals in Padang City based on the dynamic system of the COVID-19 pandemic case obtained simulation results from a population of 909,040 people in Padang City, there were 57.38% of the population exposed, 10.06% positive for COVID-19, 71.9% self-isolation, 28.1% hospitalized, and 1.27% death. Vaccination simulation obtained 85% vaccination 1, 69.69% vaccination 2, and 11.73% booster vaccination. From the hospital infectious waste simulation, there was an increase in the generation of infectious waste by 100% compared to before the pandemic. Model validity test obtained AME declared valid ( 10%) (4) Policy recommendations for controlling infectious waste in Padang City hospitals based on the dynamic system of the COVID-19 pandemic case are with the vaccination scenario, health protocols and PSBB will optimistically reduce positive COVID-19 cases, treatment and the generation of infectious waste in Padang City hospitals.
