Abstract

The misconception related to astronomy is fretfully rising in society. This study aims to investigate, (i) level of misconception towards astronomy among university students, (ii) significant difference in students’ interest towards astronomy between male and female, (iii) significant difference between science and non-science students’ level of knowledge in astronomy, (iv) significant relationship between students’ faculties and misconception in astronomy, and (v) significant relationship between the educational background of the respondents' parents and their misconceptions towards astronomy. A qualitative approach was implemented using a set of questionnaires for data collection. The respondents were undergraduate students of with different courses and backgrounds from four different faculties: Faculty of Education, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Art and Design, and Faculty of Business Management. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS). Findings showed that there is a significant difference in students’ interest towards astronomy between male and female students, there is a significant different between level of knowledge in astronomy and students’ major course, there is significant difference between students’ faculties and misconception in astronomy, and there is no significant relationship between the educational background of the respondents’ parents and their misconception in astronomy. This study benefits society by clarifying phenomena, distinguishing myth from reality. It aids Science teachers in addressing astronomy misconceptions and helps educators curb their spread.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Educaplay interactive digital media in improving the Higher Order Thinking Skills of grade II elementary school students on the subject of living things. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design type. The subjects of the study were 20 grade II students of SDN Karawang Kulon II. The instruments used were multiple-choice HOTS tests and descriptions based on the revised Bloom's taxonomy, with indicators of analyzing, evaluating, and creating. The results showed that there was a significant increase in the posttest score compared to the pretest, with an average increase of 41.1 points and a significance value of 0.001 (p <0.05). The N-Gain value was in the medium to high category (average 0.6867). In addition, the analysis of the quality of the questions showed that most of the questions were difficult and had good discriminating power. These findings indicate that Educaplay is effective in developing students' HOTS skills through interactive, contextual, and fun learning. The implications of this Research encourage teachers to utilize digital media as a learning tool that is not only interesting but also able to stimulate high-level cognitive activities from the elementary education level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of concrete learning media in mathematics learning at the elementary school level based on selected journal publications through a bibliometric approach using Scopus and Google Scholar databases published between 2019 and 2024. A total of 1,033 articles were initially identified during the search process, which were then filtered using inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in 54 relevant articles consisting of 53 from Google Scholar and 1 from Scopus. This research employed a literature review method with bibliometric analysis stages, including the identification of research trends, publication frequency, dominant keywords, and thematic developments related to concrete learning media in mathematics instruction. The findings indicate that the use of concrete media not only enhances students’ conceptual understanding of mathematics, but also contributes to increased learning motivation, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Moreover, concrete media are considered effective in creating a more interactive and meaningful learning environment for elementary school students. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for researchers and education practitioners interested in examining research trends concerning the use of concrete learning media in mathematics education and to provide direction for future research.

Abstract

This study aims to review various literature related to the development of interactive media using Wordwall in teaching integers at the elementary school level. The study employs a literature review method by analyzing relevant scientific articles, journals, and academic publications. Wordwall is a digital platform that allows teachers to create various types of interactive and engaging educational games. Based on the findings of the review, the use of Wordwall has been proven to enhance students' learning motivation, active participation, and understanding of integer concepts through a fun and non-monotonous approach. Moreover, this media provides a varied learning experience and promotes two-way interaction between teachers and students. However, several challenges arise in its implementation, such as limited access to technological devices, uneven internet connectivity, and the lack of teacher readiness in optimally utilizing technology in the learning process. The implications of this review highlight the importance of providing adequate training and mentoring for teachers, as well as sufficient infrastructure support, so that the use of interactive media like Wordwall can be effectively and sustainably integrated into mathematics learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

The ability of adaptive reasoning is greatly needed to develop cognitive skills in students through mathematical observations of an object and problems caused by the aspect of creativity often being neglected because of the focus on mastery of the material, with students' answers being brief without elaboration and explanation. This research background study aims to develop STEM-based Augmented Reality (AR) learning media to assess the adaptive reasoning and creativity skills of fifth-grade students in IPAS (Science and Social Studies Integration) subjects. The research subjects included validators, teachers, and students to evaluate the media's validity, practicality, effectiveness, and user response. Validation results indicated that the media was highly feasible, with scores from content validators at 96%, media experts at 91%, and language experts at 94%. Practicality was rated at 97% by teachers and 82% by students. Effectiveness was measured using validated pretest and posttest instruments, yielding Aiken’s V scores ranging from 0.91667 to 1.00, indicating a “very high” category. Student responses showed score improvements, particularly in adaptive reasoning indicators such as “evaluating the correctness of answers” and “drawing conclusions,” which increased from mean scores of 6.33 and 6.27 to 6.88 and 8.3, respectively. Creativity indicators remained relatively stable between pretest and posttest, with mean scores consistently above 11 across all components. Overall, the AR-based media is considered feasible and effective for implementation in learning, although the interpretation of results should be approached with caution.
