Abstract

The ability of adaptive reasoning is greatly needed to develop cognitive skills in students through mathematical observations of an object and problems caused by the aspect of creativity often being neglected because of the focus on mastery of the material, with students' answers being brief without elaboration and explanation. This research background study aims to develop STEM-based Augmented Reality (AR) learning media to assess the adaptive reasoning and creativity skills of fifth-grade students in IPAS (Science and Social Studies Integration) subjects. The research subjects included validators, teachers, and students to evaluate the media's validity, practicality, effectiveness, and user response. Validation results indicated that the media was highly feasible, with scores from content validators at 96%, media experts at 91%, and language experts at 94%. Practicality was rated at 97% by teachers and 82% by students. Effectiveness was measured using validated pretest and posttest instruments, yielding Aiken’s V scores ranging from 0.91667 to 1.00, indicating a “very high” category. Student responses showed score improvements, particularly in adaptive reasoning indicators such as “evaluating the correctness of answers” and “drawing conclusions,” which increased from mean scores of 6.33 and 6.27 to 6.88 and 8.3, respectively. Creativity indicators remained relatively stable between pretest and posttest, with mean scores consistently above 11 across all components. Overall, the AR-based media is considered feasible and effective for implementation in learning, although the interpretation of results should be approached with caution.

Abstract

Abstract

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential components of 21st-century education goals. Weak problem-solving and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) can become problematic for students studying physics, particularly in the context of magnetism. To address this issue, efforts are being made to improve physics problem-solving skills through the application of problem-based learning (PBL) and HOTS. The study aims to determine whether students' physics problem-solving skills are better when using PBL-HOTS compared to PBL alone. Additionally, the study aims to determine the improvement and profile of physics problem-solving skills according to Heller after the application of PBL-HOTS on magnetism material. The study employed a mixed-methods sequential explanatory pre-test post-test control group design. The participants were ninth-grade students from SMP Negeri 1 Kersana during the 2021/2022 academic year. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, with Class IX A as the experimental group and Class IX C as the control group. Data was collected using a physics problem-solving test, including descriptions, interviews, and post-test documentation checks. The t-test results indicate that students who applied PBL-HOTS had better physics problem-solving skills than those who applied PBL. Additionally, the N-Gain test showed a moderate increase in students' physics problem-solving skills after the application of PBL-HOTS, with an average N-Gain score of 0.4785. The results of interviews and examination of posttest documentation support Heller's profile of students' physics problem-solving skills. This includes indicators of focusing on the problem (84.69%), describing physics concepts (70.94%), planning solutions (87.81%), implementing problem-solving plans (95.63%), and evaluating solutions (46.88%).

Abstract

There are three main elements of activities assessed in assigning credit points to teachers. First is education, second is learning and third is continuous professional development. Education and learning are activities that are usually carried out by a teacher. However, not many teachers are still doing sustainable professional development. One of them is in scientific publications. For this reason, a service was carried out regarding training in writing scientific papers to increase the acquisition of credit scores for Banjarnegara Regency MGMP Science teachers. The training methods applied include planning, implementing training and mentoring and monitoring. Based on the service carried out, it was found that the length of time teaching did not show a positive relationship with writing ability and quantity of publications. Through this service, teachers already have the motivation to start writing even though there have been no published results from this service activity.
