Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia ranks second in terms of terrestrial biodiversity after Brazil. Around 15,000 plant species in Indonesia have the potential for medicinal use, but only about 7,000 species have been utilized as raw materials for medicine. One common plant in Indonesia is the periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus L.), which grows both wild and cultivated as an ornamental plant. This plant has various benefits, including its potential as an anticancer agent due to the presence of vincristine and vinblastine compounds. This study aims to present the latest information on pharmacological activity testing of vincristine, in addition to its documented use as an anticancer agent. The methodology of this research was conducted using the Way2Drug webtool (https://www.way2drug.com/passonline/predict.php), with the SMILES of the vincristine compound obtained from PubChem (https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/). The results showed that vincristine has a very high potential for cytostatic activity based on a Pa value (probability "to be active") of 0.988. Thus, it can be concluded that vincristine has significant potential in cytostatic pharmacological activity.

Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a debilitating autoimmune condition characterized by chronic joint inflammation and pain, often managed with conventional treatments that can present serious side effects. This study investigates the potential of gingerol, the primary bioactive compound found in red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum), as a natural alternative for RA management. Utilizing in silico methodologies such as molecular docking and dynamics simulations, the research predicts that gingerol acts as a stimulant for the release of 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a crucial neurotransmitter involved in pain regulation and inflammation modulation. The analysis reveals a high probability (0.960) of gingerol's activity in enhancing serotonin release, suggesting its significant role in mitigating inflammatory responses. The interaction mechanism of gingerol with serotonin receptors indicates a pathway for its therapeutic action, reinforcing its potential as a safe and effective herbal medicine for RA treatment. Further research, including in vitro and in vivo validations, is warranted to explore the efficacy of gingerol as a viable anti-rheumatic agent.

Abstract

Flatulence (meteorismus) is a common condition caused by excess gas accumulation in the digestive tract. One alternative traditional treatment to overcome this condition is the use of herbal plants, such as cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii). This study aims to predict the potential of eugenol, an active compound in cinnamon, as a carminative agent using an in silico approach. Data were obtained from PubChem and analyzed using PASS Online to predict its pharmacological activity. The results of the analysis showed that eugenol has a probability of activity as a carminative of 0.941 and a probability of inactivity of 0.001, indicating high potential in helping to relieve flatulence. Thus, eugenol in cinnamon has the potential as an alternative natural treatment to overcome digestive disorders, especially bloating.

Abstract

Celery (Apium graveolensL.) is a plant that has various pharmacological activities. One of the main bioactive compounds in celery is apigenin. Understanding the pharmacokinetic properties of apigenin is very important in evaluating its effectiveness and safety as a drug candidate. This study aims to predict the pharmacokinetic properties of apigenin using the pkCSM computational approach. The prediction results show that apigenin has good intestinal absorption, but low water solubility. Distribution ability is moderate, with limited penetration into the central nervous system. Apigenin is not a major substrate of CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 enzymes, but can inhibit CYP1A2 and CYP3A4. The elimination rate is moderate. Apigenin is not mutagenic, not hepatotoxic, and does not cause cardiotoxic effects. Apigenin has low toxicity toT. pyriformisand safe in acute doses with an LD50 of 2,432 log mM.

Abstract

The results of a vaccine acceptance survey conducted by the Ministry of Health together with ITAGI (Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization) with support from UNICEF and WHO in September 2020 showed that the majority of the public (74 percent) already knew about the government's plans to carry out COVID-19 vaccination. As many as 65 percent are willing to be vaccinated, around 27 percent are still hesitant. And only a small percentage or around 8 percent said they refused because they were worried about the safety, effectiveness and halalness of the vaccine. The survey results also show that those who have information about COVID-19 vaccination are more likely to accept COVID-19 vaccination. This shows the importance of ensuring that all people have access to accurate information about handling COVID-19, including about COVID-19 vaccination. (Ministry of Health, 2021) The problem that arises now is that there is a lot of hoax news circulating through social media that is widely spread to the public. So it can lead public opinion to be afraid and not want to be vaccinated. This socialization was held with the theme "Socialization of Understanding Vaccines in the Jebres Solo Region" to provide education to the public, especially in the Jebres Solo Region, what vaccines are, the benefits of using vaccines for the body in this pandemic condition, the dangers they cause and so on

Abstract

Gastroenteritis is a common gastrointestinal disorder characterized by inflammation of the stomach and small intestine, often leading to symptoms such as diarrhea, vomit-ing, and abdominal pain. This study investigates the gastroprotective effects of Pepe-romia pellucida (Chinese betel) extract on histopathological features of the stomach in a mouse model of gastroenteritis. Male Swiss strain mice, aged 2-3 months, were treated with different doses of P. pellucida extract (100, 300, and 500 mg/kg BW) for 7 days after inducing gastroenteritis with Escherichia coli infection. Histopathological ex-amination showed that the extract significantly reduced cell degeneration, necrosis, and polymorphonuclear leukocyte infiltration in the stomach compared to the negative control group. The highest dose (500 mg/kg BW) exhibited the most prominent gastro-protective effect. These results suggest that P. pellucida possesses promising thera-peutic potential for gastroenteritis, possibly due to its bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. Further studies are needed to explore the underly-ing mechanisms and optimize its therapeutic application.

Abstract

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition characterized by an abnormal immune response to infection, leading to high mortality rates in intensive care units (ICUs) worldwide. Caspase-3, a crucial enzyme in the apoptosis pathway, plays a significant role in sep-sis-related cellular damage. This study investigates the anti-apoptotic potential of Paederia foetida L. leaf extract by examining its effect on Caspase-3 expression in an Escherichia coli-induced sepsis mice model. Male Balb/c mice were divided into six groups, including positive control, negative control, and treatment groups receiving varying doses of the extract (100 mg/kgBW, 300 mg/kgBW, and 500 mg/kgBW). Caspase-3 expression in the spleen was measured after 24 hours of treatment. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in Caspase-3 expression, particularly in the group treated with 500 mg/kgBW of the extract, indicating its anti-apoptotic effect. These findings suggest that P. foetida leaf extract may serve as a potential therapeutic agent for reducing cell apoptosis in sepsis, warranting further investigation into its mechanisms and clinical pharmacological field.

Abstract

Ground spices are a key ingredient used as food additives in almost every dish, whether at home or in places that sell various types of food. The use of food additives (BTP) in food production processes needs to be closely monitored. Additives that are prohibited include formalin and borax. Formalin and borax are banned because they can cause damage to the brain, liver, and kidneys, and long-term use can result in death. This study aims to determine whether formalin and borax are present in ground spices sold at Ajibarang Wetan Market. The ground spice samples examined came from two vendors: Vendor A (garlic, galangal, ginger, candlenut, red chili, turmeric, mixed spices, and coriander) and Vendor B (shallots, garlic, turmeric, red chili, candlenut, and mixed spices). The ground spice samples sold by Vendor A and Vendor B tested negative for both formalin and borax. The method used involved color reaction tests. To detect formalin, a potassium permanganate (KMnO₄) color reaction was used, and to detect borax, turmeric paper was employed. The conclusion of this study is that the borax test results for both vendors (Vendor A and Vendor B) were negative, as there was no color change to orange or reddish-brown. The formalin test results for both vendors were also negative, as there was no change in color to clear.
