Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: The development of fine motor skills in mentally disabled students is still a challenge in learning in special schools (SLB). This study aims to analyze the application of bamboo flute media in learning activities to stimulate the fine motor skills of students with disabilities at SLB Sunan Kudus. Research Methods: This research used a qualitative approach of the case study type, with the subject of the skills teacher and five middle-level mentally disabled students. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth interviews and direct observation, while data analysis used thematic techniques with triangulation of techniques and sources. Finding/Results: The results showed that the use of bamboo flute media was able to improve finger coordination, motor accuracy, and student concentration during the learning process. The teacher also said that the bamboo flute is an interesting and easy-to-use media for students, although adaptation is needed in the early stages of use. This study has limitations in the number of subjects and a single school context, so it is recommended that future studies involve more participants and develop other traditional media variations that are suitable for the characteristics of students with special needs.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: Music education in elementary schools is an essential component of holistic child development, contributing to students’ character formation, creativity, motor coordination, and emotional intelligence. However, the implementation of music learning is often suboptimal due to the limited availability of instructional tools and the lack of engaging teaching methods. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of using the melodica (locally known as pianika) as a concrete and accessible musical instrument to improve students' engagement and understanding in music education. Research Methods: Conducted at SD N 1 Mijen, this research uses a descriptive qualitative approach involving participatory observation, semi-structured interviews with a music teacher and six fourth-grade students, and documentation of the learning process. Finding/Results: The findings indicate that the use of the melodica increases student motivation, enhances comprehension of basic musical notation, and supports the development of performance confidence. Teachers reported that the pianika facilitates structured, step-by-step learning and provides an effective means of formative assessment through direct practice. Students responded positively, becoming more active and enthusiastic during lessons. Additionally, the instrument allowed students to express themselves musically in a collaborative and supportive environment. These results suggest that simple musical instruments like the pianika can serve not only as effective learning tools but also as media that foster emotional and social development. Conclusion: This study supports the integration of practical, engaging, and multimodal strategies in elementary music education to enhance learning outcomes and student participation.

Abstract

The critical need to integrate moderate Aswaja-based religious character with the preservation of Kudus local wisdom as a bulwark against globalization in early childhood education has not yet been widely explored. This study aims to describe the flagship program model and analyze the learning system at Kelompok Bermain (KB) Muslimat NU Miftahul Ulum Loram Kulon, Kudus, in the context of integrating religious character and local wisdom. A descriptive qualitative method was employed with data triangulation through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis conducted over one month. The findings show that flagship programs such as the habituation of Sholat Dhuha, memorization of Surat al-Wāqiʿah, Friday ziarah activities, and participation in Ampyang Maulid are effectively internalized through a hidden curriculum based on play-based learning. The main findings include: (1) visualization of spiritual values through consistent daily religious activities; (2) strengthening of cultural identity through active participation in local Kudus traditions; and (3) the formation of moderate character through the principles of Tawassuth, Tawazun, and Tasamuh, which are integrated into every learning activity, with teachers acting as key facilitators who bridge spiritual and cultural values in each learning center. This synergy model produces children’s character outcomes that are religious, moderate, and firmly rooted in local cultural identity, and can be positioned as a best practice for faith-based early childhood education. The study is limited in terms of generalizability because it was conducted in a single institution, has not measured long-term impacts, and assesses character primarily through qualitative-descriptive indicators. Nevertheless, the integration model has a significant impact on shaping children’s identity as “Cah Kudus” with noble character and offers a framework that can be replicated in other PAUD institutions under Nahdlatul Ulama in Indonesia, with adaptation to the local wisdom of each region.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a developing country, greatly needs a creative younger generation to contribute to education, culture, and technology. Creativity can be enhanced through education, particularly in elementary schools through the Cultural Arts and Crafts (SBDP) subject. Learning SBDP is an important aspect of developing students' aesthetic abilities and creativity. This study examines the implementation of teaching light and dark elements in visual arts in grade 6 at SD 2 Karang Malang by applying the Merdeka Curriculum using a Project-Based Learning model, deep learning, and inquiry approaches. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection through teacher interviews, lesson plan documentation, and observation of student products. Learning media such as projectors, whiteboards, and drawing tools are used to support the learning process. The learning process was carried out by combining theory and practice through direct exploration in the school environment, group discussions, and the application of shading techniques. Students' product outcomes demonstrated their understanding and skills in drawing objects using light and dark techniques that create volume and depth. This learning approach encourages creativity, analytical skills, as well as character development in students in accordance with the Pancasila Student Profile. This article is expected to provide practical references for teachers and related parties in developing innovative, contextual, and meaningful arts and culture learning for elementary school students. Evaluations indicate the success of the methods, media, and approaches used in enhancing students' art skills. However, time planning and facilities need to be improved to make the learning process more optimal.
